April Title Event: Entitlement

This is the title event thread for April.
To make a normal nomination using the usual standard title nomination metrics, go here.
To discuss events, go here.

Entitlement:

For the duration of this month, players may post in this thread and ask to receive a title.
As long as the title otherwise follows title rules (not referring to an ongoing game, not obscene, etc.), for the duration of April (or until they ask for the title to be removed, whichever comes first), that player will then have that title.

From the week after this event ends, May 2nd - May 8th, there will be a review period.
During this review period, if enough people vote to keep a title and the person still approves of the title, then it will stay. (About five votes will be needed to stay.)
You may only vote to keep 1/6th of the total titles generated from this event. (If 6, you get one vote; 12, two votes; 24, four votes, etc.)
If someone votes to keep your title, you cannot vote to keep that person's title.

Titles not receiving sufficient support will, on May 9th, be removed.

Can people request for titles to be changed at any time during the event?

For my sanity, no.
The event might allow for more experimentation and be more fun if I allowed unlimited switches, but I'd go crazy trying to keep track of them all. (Also I'd be worried I'd make a mistake.)

If you don't like the title you requested, you can ask for it to be removed before the end of the month. Or just decline to keep it. Or deliberately fail to get the votes needed to keep it.

Title Events every 3 months were one of the two or three things that I wanted feedback from zor about.

Entitlement being first, and starting on April 1st, was a homage to Psyche's tenure, because I stole the idea from him and put my own twist on it.

Couple of clarifications: you can't vote to keep your own title, and you don't need an Entitlement title to vote to keep titles.
You can vote without having participated in the event.

Users always have the power to, at any time, decline to keep their current title. That exists at all times, including this event. Declaring you don't want to keep it is good enough; it'll be removed when the rest are, per your wishes. (Or sooner, if you want it removed before May 9th.)

I'm helping g to bump up the number of titles generated from this event so more people can keep their titles. I have no doubt that I wont be able to keep mine, but if I give people a second vote so two deserving scummers with more creativity get go keep theirs then this is a win

This event was a fun idea but this is a good example of why I feel like I won't like the outcome. Can we at least have the ability to cast negative votes against titles, the way we have anti-noms, so we don't end up voting through 26 bad titles from a pool of 156 bad titles?

There's a built in safety measure. I didn't say "five votes = title stays".

just to clarify, if I choose to change my title for the purposes of this event, will it revert back to my current title at the end of the month? I support increasing the number of titles that can theoretically come out of this event, but I don't want to lose my current title at the end.

It sure will, unless your new title gets the needed support and you prefer it over the old one.
Or if you ask for your old title to be removed.

Failing either of those, you get your old title back.

We do, but we also have a rule against self-nominations for titles.

It can generally be assumed that during title events, rules for titles are more lax; they still follow

Don't see what site rule it'd be breaking, so it's probably just a firable offense.

Well for a start, offering/actually titling people in a game I'm playing is 100% bringing an outside influence into the game, and may be borderline talking about ongoing game violation if it's mentioned outside the game thread.

hey I know I already did this but could I actually instead change mine to "rocks fall, everyone dies" until the end of the month? I want that to be my title for a little bit because in hindsight it's a little funny but I also don't want my title to permanently be a reference to the worst thing I've ever done on this site

Technically speaking? No, I said people couldn't change their titles.

Which titles should I not nominate?

You should not nominate:

• a title based on an ongoing mafia game. No matter how great the title is, it can (and will) wait until the game finishes.
  
• a mean-spirited title. Mean-spirited titles will not be given out.
  
• a title based on something that is clearly bad. No titles will be given for self-hammering as town or eating babies.

If your original requested title well and truly failed this metric, if it was a reference to something that you genuinely think is terrible--then sure. I'll allow it this once, on the merits of the original title having been invalid.

If a title gets sufficient support, it will stay when the voting period is over, assuming the user approves of it.

can we change our votes? there are such overwhelmingly large numbers on two of these that people on those ones could easily move their votes elsewhere if they'd like without those ones dropping beneath the threshold.

I've debated both this and publicizing my title votecounter (I have a notepad file open which is quite similar to what you just posted).

On the one hand, having one/both of these would help to expose titles that need more votes, encouraging support for them and potentially getting them through when they would otherwise fail.

On the other hand, having one/both of these could cause people to not vote for a title/remove their vote for a title because they

think

it has enough...only to...SURPRISE!...learn too late that, no, it didn't have enough; if they had cast/kept their vote it would've passed but by removing it, it fails.

Haven't made up my mind yet.

Fair warning: that is not a magical "get this many votes and the title passes".
I was quite explicit about that.

If a title fails because people thought that there were enough votes, but there weren't...you have only yourselves to blame. Don't assume that an arbitrary number is the amount needed when I quite explicitly said otherwise.

In general, my bar for those who already have titles was a bit lower, on the grounds of if they legitimately like the new title better than their old title, then they can have it.
I don't know the original full story behind the title, but the updated story was fairly humorous as well.

Annadog prefers this title over their old one, sure, they can have it. The reference is there and it's a decent title.

If during the event, someone had explained it to me, then maybe I would've approved it, but nobody did to my knowledge and I simply don't get it. It doesn't seem to fit him in any way, as far as I can tell.

Another title that I don't really understand. I kinda suspected it came from a certain discord channel, but if so, it must've originated during a time that I did not read the messages because I certainly don't recall seeing context behind the title. If it's a joke, I don't know the context of it; if it's meant to be a serious representation of him, I don't see how he's anti-chill? My experience with him has been he's incredibly chill, so again, I just don't get where the title comes from.

Every other title not listed

Regardless of how good the titles might've been, they just didn't get the necessary support.
