I really despise White Knight scummy award. Mostly due to the fact the last time we had that award it was really the only one I had I thought I had a shot for and was really attempting to get (I replaced into 28 games in a year in hopes that would increase my chances), I never got nommed. And the award went to again one of the classic people who wins these awards.

Just want to say "fuck the white knight award"

Also I think the fact that White Knight is pretty much treated as just another Moment Brilliance variation is a problem so I think people need to stop considering that as part of the nom and we shouldn't be nomming people for just coming into a game and blowing it up.

But given site culture I doubt that will happen and the award is basically going to be Moment of Brilliance but the person replaced in!

Edit: to clarify I think white knight should be rewarding what I think is important about repalcements and the fact that they are helping to improve the game state and game integrity, but I think it only really is awarding good play so its basically a play award disguised as something else and it kind of either shouldn't exist or should just be labelled as "best replacement based on play" instead of what it is now.

I think single game noms can be nominated but I think if your central reasoning for nomming a player is "This guy came in the game, kicked ass and took over that game" you are kind of just rewarding play not the aspects of replacing in which is about doing a service to game and mods. And then my question for if kicking as is your reasoning then "how is that different than a moment of brilliance?"

Just reading the description of the game you are nommed for Jingle, I would say that fits way more with Moment of Brilliance than White Knight even though you didn't win the game.

You are defining positive change on the game as being interchangable with playing really well. When the two aren't.

You can be positive influence on game and not play well.
You can be positive influence and play well.

And only the second gets noms. The first nobody cares about enough to nom.

Like the noms for white knight should be something more like "before this person replaced in. I was considering abandoning the game because I couldn't deal with it. And this person re-energized me to continue playing".

No one describes that, and I think thats the penultimate reason for this award existence. Someone came into the game and turned a terrible game into a fun one. One that everyone wanted to leave into one they could continue to the end. Not just someone who went in and dominated the game through good play as in they were influential to the game in away of having impact on the end of game outcome.

This award is awarded to a player who replaced into a game and was able to make a sizable contribution to the game after replacing in.

Helping to improve the gamestate and intergrity is a sizable contribution to the game (assuming it was after replacing in). The examples provided on what that may look like.

This is also a sentence thats important

maybe just coming in and taking a game from miserable to enjoyable.

I feel like this also covers what you want to empahize the most I think?

I am telling you Alisae. No one is nomming someone for their positive influence they are nomming people who did a massive turn around on games in game outcome. Not on game enjoyment or helping the mod out.

There's nothing contradictory about that.
It is not an award given to those who try for it.
It is an award given for those who earned it; these don't contradict.
It is for a single game based around the quality of the contribution to that game--that is a case of someone earning the award; it is not a case of giving it to someone who tried for it.

Saying it's contradictory doesn't make it so; explain how because those statements literally don't contradict at all.
It is an award given to someone who has earned it, not to someone who tried for it.
It is an award given for someone who was a quality replacement, not to someone who made a large quantity of replace-ins.

The only way to try for the award is to go out of your way to replace in, and if aiming for it with it as a body of work award, you're going to deliberately replace in to as many games as you can to try and receive it--quantity.
Whereas being nominated for being a stunningly amazing replacement, quality, means you earned it.

And if people replace more into games because they are rewarded for such theres nothing wrong with that because it helps the site and helps the mods. If they are shitty replacements that can be reflected with judges judging on if they were positive influence or not.

And it is contradictory to say you don't get it for trying, you get it by earning it. Earning it means you ahve to input work in order to get something out of it. You don't get in healthy shape by doing nothing, you have to input some work. The idea you say we are just giving out awards as though no one is attempting for them is fucking stupid.

I have no investment in who wins this argument but this post seems over the top (and not just because Mastina doesn't deserve this insult no matter how much you disagree with her - also because suicide isn't funny). Maybe take a few deep breaths and find another outlet for the bitterness you've said you're still harboring; it is not Mastina's fault that nobody nominated you in a previous year, as frustrating as that experience must have been.

is that neither ank nor I would be as townread as we were if we didn't bus D1
our being townreads was fundamentally built off of the sacrifice of the grapes slot
i led the bus, ank!slot had the lolhammer that got the slot townread

grapes may not have played in the late game but they were integral to our success in the late game and a slot getting bussed shouldn't mean that it isn't considered for an award like this imo

Rising Star
10/30/19	Pine	Menalque	Alisae V Pine: An Epic Quest!	Menalque is a splendid example of a Rising Star candidate. Although he is new to our community as of this summer, only a few months later he has already made a significant and favorable impression. I had the distinct pleasure of playing with him in two of his first games on Mafiascum - in Newbie 1934: Tundra as an opponent and in Pokemon Ruby as his mentor in scum tactics. He has the rare talent of both standing out as obvious Town when he is and blending into the background when he is scum, while still not giving ground on a meta front. On top of that, he is a pleasure to play with, both against and in concert, and has seamlessly joined our wider community. Finally, in Alisae V Pine, Menalque gamely stepped up to the plate against some of MafiaScum's most experienced players and acquitted himself adroitly and with class. Welcome, Menalque!

While the game did cause some post-game salt, I think the Scummies should emphasize on the specific player and their good plays. And this nominee definitely deserves this recognition.

12/3/19	bitmap	Creature	Calendar Mafia	Creature has definitely played phenomenally well as someone who's usually transparent as scum to someone who managed to be more town than well... the rest of town. He was one of the most active posters and was a big reason that town didn't lose straight up and managed to embrace what good SK play is like, abusing town and scum to your win-con. The player list had some fairly strong players as well.
