Is Dunnstral really a rising star? I thought he was already a strong player, he just lurked a lot. He’s been here on site for a while too.

I’m not against that nom or anything. I think Dunn’s great, I just thought he was already past the “Rising Star” level.

and then they won't win because the award is team focused not individual focused
Fair. I think for that, since it’s body of work, it’s just better to nominate near the end of the year. Most people don’t play enough games to have that many successful scum games in the first 3 and a half months, haha.

Id have nominated you for the site contributor award, but I’m sure you’re going to do plenty more in the months coming, so I’m just generally waiting before I make the nom.

We just gotta make sure it’s not a popularity contest. Hold each other to those standards, and outwardly nom people.

I think it’s better to have too many noms than not enough.

The sheer fact you replaced into 28 games warrants a nom.

+1

Although I disagree with doing something for the sake of getting an award.
I agree with that, but I think personal play is something players should look to better there skills in, and it should normally feel some sort of importance for being Nom’d. As players, if we see something we deem nom worthy, we should nom it.

In post 134, Firebringer wrote:Just reading the description of the game you are nommed for Jingle, I would say that fits way more with Moment of Brilliance than White Knight even though you didn't win the game.
In post 142, the worst wrote:that's exactly why jingle deserved his nom imo
scum outplayed town mechanically and ducked the mechsolve and outplayed in day play but Jingle's rep in was ++++cohesion and funness
In post 145, Jingle wrote:I feel awkward weighing in here, but I will say that A. I see FB's point (and agree to the point. It's way cooler to replace in and defuse a tense situation than to replace in and immediately win the game for town) and B. I think I'd prefer not to win if that means there are more people replacing into games.

I do support changing it to a body of work though.
The game Jingle was nomm’d for was a pretty crazy game, secret vote game way, and I believe he came in around Page 200 ish of this 400+ page game, and did work, which is why i think that was a service.

On the topic of it shouldn’t be a body of work because then people will try to go for something, if they’re only doing it for that, isn’t that what we’re supposed to be sifting through and thinking about when it comes to us Nomming then?

I guess on top of that, we should Nom people for making the game state better and other things besides just coming in and wrecking the game.

If someone comes in as town, and wrecks, I’d feel more inclined to nom them for Moment of Brilliance.

On the topic of a taly’s hydra topic, I do like that idea. Hydras seem to be pretty popular right now.

I also understand where Mastina’s coming from, though. I agree that people shouldn’t actively go out of their way to try and win a scummie, but I still think it’s okay to want to be nominated, especially if you feel you deserve it. I don’t think people should actively play in a way where it’s like “oh, they’re just doing that for the scummie”, they should just play the game as they normally would.

For instance, I replace into a lot of games, and I’ll replace into games specifically because I feel no one else is going to sometimes, but maybe that’s more of an addicted to mafia adrenaline than anything else, and I don’t try to go for the White Knight scummy, but if I had a great replace in, or multiple great replace ins, i’d like to think a scummy nom isn’t out of the question.

Someone like Jingle who almost exclusively replaces in and does really well I feel
should
try for it. It’s almost like an analyzing of play and trying to better yourself and setting goals and standards for all the games you play, which just raises your level of play, and it’s not like Jingle wouldn’t still be doing The same thing regardless.

I think it’s okay to try for scummies, just don’t compromise your games because of it. No point in that, and that’s what i feel Mastina is getting at. Don’t be an Oscar bait movie just for the sake of potentially getting an award, basically.

Also, we should try to be more chill and not toxic in discussion threads. This is site wide politics, basically, and in-game, do what you gotta do, I guess, but leave the heat in the kitchen (games).

I'm also reluctant to reward fakeclaiming guilties as town, although perhaps that's less awful in context.
While I agree that I wouldn't nominate Ras for Master Strategist here, I think there's an area for that specifically.

I was actually pondering the idea of when The Last Knight claimed Sticky Fruit instead of Fruit, and ScumProfii immediately thought "hmm, I wonder if he meant regular Fruit", and then adapted his play to make sure that the Sticky Fruit confusion was still there, which I think was actually pretty strong mechanical play from Profii. The confusion on the Sticky Fruit ended up being a BIG part of LAST NIGHT TOMORROW.

Yeah, anti nom that shit.

I actually thought that was the case, but couldn’t prove it.

I should have brought up my suspicion about Ras, because I was asking around site about that Notes account.

I had no clue that Ras and Awestfie were the same, but I kept having Notes sneakily want access to the spectator thread, and I started refusing.

It’s why it took me like a month to nom that game, because I started asking around about it because I felt something was off with the Notes account.

It’s half the reason I gave so much detail in my write up.

If so I can remove it.
I actually didn't give the Notes account spoilers in that game, but Ras did have Awestfie in that account, and DEB's scum play was essentially coasting and having Awestfie dominate the game, which was just Ras.

Remove it.

Nominating Saudade for Moment of Brilliance
for Large Normal 220: Jazz Mafia

Saudade had near perfect reads and through his Loyal Neighborizer role was able to create a masonry which POE'd the game out. While this was a town sided setup, the confidence and elongated discussion, he was able to become the main player who helped lynch 4 scum back to back. Despite Flavor Leaf being a damn boonskiies playing devil's advocate, and everyone arguing against his reads, he was able to create actual discussion and eventually was able to convince every single player to eventually join in on his preferred lynches, which caused a near perfect town game. I debated nominating the majority of players, as I truly believe every single town player in this game was somehow part of helping lead to a town victory. Everyone played a part in this, but Saudade lead town, and thus, the nom is to him.

Day 7, extremely low kill game, almost all claims are out, halfway through a day, flippynips had a Mafia guilty result. First, he claimed to have these results from different nights not realizing what day it was on, but the funniest part that had everybody stop playing the game to make a “LMAO” Post was when FlippyNips claimed that he had a result on Xtoxm from multiple nights ago, but he forgot what it was. He then comes out and states that he had an SK result from multiple nights before, but he just forgot about it. This was hilarious, and I accidentally did a spit take all over my iPad.

Modfather
9/3 Flavor Leaf Skygazer Pokemon Fusion U-Pick Skygazer has modded multiple games this year, and Pokémon Fusion U-pick topped the list for me. This game right after another large theme game, Everything is Completely Normal. Mod response is always fantastic, setup is exciting and fresh, and vote counts are extremely prevalent. The Pokémon Fusion was a great U-Pick that used a fun HP mechanic and gave a real flavorful experience.

Paperback Writer
9/3 Flavor Leaf The Baker Mini Normal 2086 - Pastries! Normally, I wouldn’t think to put a Paperback Writer here for a Normal game, but mainly because theme games are generally the games people put a crazy amount of effort into story and whatnot, but Dr Easy Bake put a lot of effort to create a very flavorful experience in a Normal game. It also never crossed a line, and everything was literally about Pastries! He put a good amount of detail and personality into tons of different pastry related items, and it was a great experience, and proves Normal games can be just as colorful as Theme games.

Okay, I have this setup, I’ll edit in descriptions/links when I get home.
I’m bad, this’ll get done soon tho

Lol, I’m silly

I gotta add more Skygazer games and I’ll add more to my descript.

I’m probably going to nominate multiple rising stars.

I think a lot of those haven’t been done yet because it’s body of work for the year, and the years not done, but i generally think anyone involved heavily in the community should definitely at least nominate one person per body of work section.

Paragon
12/31 Flavor Leaf Skitter30 micro 889:good jams mafialarge normal 220: jazz mafiamystery box of silver I linked a small sample size, but everyone is aware of Skitter’s town presence. It’s incredibly difficult as scum to get anyone to even consider the possibility that she could ever roll scum, which no doubt is awesome for her scum game. Throughout the year, Skitter was one of the most consistently town read players I played with, where no matter what, her alignment always came off. Jazz Mafia, I believe it was, Skitter was an IC, and getting hard pushed by me for playing off, but then she flipped Innocent Child, Day 1, and by the end of the day, she made a 5 scum pool that had 4 scum in it. This helped Saudade carry on getting innocents throughout the rest of the game off of Skitter’s reads, because she obviously was nightkilled.

In Mafia a la modé she successfully nailed 2 of 3 scum members Day 1, and I was one of them. I was barely able to escape Day 1 alive, and we were forced to kill her Night 1, something that she has grown completely accustomed to.

In good jams mafia, she was playing a 2d3 setup as a jailkeeper, counterclaimed a scum fake claim, then successfully jailed the other scum.

There are plenty more over the course of the year, and Ankamius has already said a lot, so I’ll keep it short. Her town dominance is insane, and I will always kill her when I am scum, even at the expense of keeping PR’s alive in return.

Rising Star
12/31 Flavor Leaf RCEnigma Mafia á la mode
Mini 2058
Musicals
There are many games I could have grabbed, probably even more relevant games, but these ones popped into my head.

Been on site for about a year and a half now, and I feel like he’s pretty established on site. Rarely ever do you see him get angry, and starting from the beginning of the year, he was one of my biggest threats as scum. In mini 2058, I begged the scum team to let me kill him because he knew I was scum, and it wasn’t going to go away. In Mafia a la mode, Page 6, he nailed me as scum, which inevitably led to my death on Day 3, which is pretty rare that I am the first scum taken down. He was also the only one to bring up the potential of my partner and I bussing early on the game, which was what ended getting us the win.

He is a constant presence in any game he plays, is able to create valuable content, and has improved his game dramatically over the past year.

In Musicals, I hard tunneled him for days, and he was able to last and change my mind around Day 4, and was part of the 4p MYLO situation where we hit scum on the last day. He played the final 2 day phases great to avoid getting himself mislynched which helped town win the game. In games, he is always an extremely reliable pillar to keep the game moving and discussion tame whilst still progressing the game forward.

I have modded 9 or so games this year, and he has essentially played in every single one. While yet to have that standout scum game, at least to my knowledge, I believe he has every tool to become an elite player, if he isn’t already, with an incredibly different and unique style that doesn’t get the praise it deserves because it’s not an IN YOUR FACE flashy playstyle.

Scum should always be weary of RCEnigma, and town should always be weary that he likely will be able to pull off a Gambit Outta Nowhere. Eventually, he’s gonna have a breakout scum game, calling it now.

Nth FakeGod MF

Oooo, Fumuki is Volpe. They were my counterpart in Let’s talk about an ongoing game. I was wondering who Volpe was, and why they knew me.

Technically sort of self nom, but it’s more the moment that happened I feel is like wtf

Kodak Moment
12/31 Flavor Leaf LoserdudeOG, Uncrowned, Alexcellent, The Worst, Flavor Leaf Newbie 1972 After a heavy end of Day 1, LoserdudeOG and I were vibing hard. You can see the build up to the moment linked of how duo’d up we were. Wishing we could be friends in real life. Then, after explaining that we both used to live an hour north of SF, and then realizing our connection to BBmolla, and LDog stating that Bbmolla was his roommate, we figured out that we have known each other in real life for 5 years already. It makes it funnier that we haven’t really even seen each other in nearly 3 years either, and everyone’s reactions to that happening, alongside with Loser going from locktowning me to “oh, now that I know who he is, he’s scum.”

Plus, it’s absolutely never expected to win, and i’ve wanted the meme of self nomming for like a year now, and it had to be the right one, and it gets 3 newbies up on the board.

It’ll happen eventually. We’ll get a goodfellas Nom this year, I feel it.

I missed getting that 11th scum victory in a year by 2 days.

But 2020 off to a good start.
