I'm in the corner
Watching you kiss her
Oh oh oh
I'm right over here
Why can't you see me?
Oh oh oh
I'm giving it my all
But I'm not the girl you're taking home
Ooh ooh ooh
I keep dancing on my own

I am! I'm a little disheartened in the early going because this is supposed to be the part that I don't have trouble with.

Also I kind of want to make you post at least a little before I go to the dance with you. (And also, I'll admit, I was thinking a few hours before you posted that I'd probably townread you if you didn't jump on me immediately because doing so is probably a high EV play for a scum version) The offer helps me feel better, though. <3

In post 302, Ankamius wrote:I'm primarily looking to avoid being a paranoia mislynch late in the game, which I suspect is a reasonable possibility if I start taking a lead role in the game throughout and the game hits a point where there's like... three pairings left. I would like to avoid that scenario.

I also have a tendency to get emotional or have my particular personality quirks either frustrate other people enough to compromise their ability to hunt properly or to shut myself down so that I become useless; I expect that this playerlist is one that this can happen in depending on how the game goes

if there's a high enough possibility of either of these scenarios happening, then it's far better for me to try to
build an endgame townblock to PoE out the game and leave to cement that my solve is town motivated
than to try to push each lynch myself and risk compromising the entire game over it

it's ultimately a decision of practicality over what is better for town in the lategame rather than the present; it's one of the reasons I'm very uneasy with the early townreads I've gotten, because becoming a consensus obvtown read has the downside of me practically being forced to be in that endgame pairing and risk the second scenario happening (unless I'm the designated sacrifice with Kagami for intermission, but I don't believe that's ever optimal unless I'm one of the biggest question mark slots in the game)
I guess my suspicion is that you actually believe this since it's a weird angle to take.

But I wanna push back a little and ask if your experience indicates that the bolded is something that actually works frequently because mine doesn't

@ank what i mostly meant is that i don't think most players give a flying fuck about deadtown reads even if they're nightkilled (they should, but they don't, and it is hard to account for & weigh against your own opinions)

Because they seem genuine in their posting so far, and some people like MariaR are posturing that they are the scummiest person here (I'm not sure if you're townreading them or you have them as light scum with your post)
light scum

i guess im not advanced enough to be sure someone's posturing scum before they flip! :P

though I'm sure some things just as interesting will develop in pregame this setup seems kewl

you're literally playing the setup wrong
You have to be twice as good as randomly lynching for suicide to be an EV play, due to what Kagami pointed out. We design "balanced" setups at like 40% town EV or whatever so obviously people are not twice as good as random lynching. Correct play is basically never suicide unless the lover PT has the biggest scumslip you've ever seen in your career. So since it's a slot you are unable to lynch from your POV you want it to be town, because you definitely don't want to give lynch proof power roles to scum

And I'm concerned that you are at least halfway cognizant of this dynamic and are just that fearful of death-by-wallflower
everyone will have a pt with their partner and it's their responsibility to try to use that to divine their partner's alignment. i feel that will be valuable.

also, in 4p endgame someone has to suicide.

It just seems a bit contradicting yknow? I'm not sure how you would to represent yourself, unless you are saying you try to do both
ill break it down for you

im dismissive of my own decisions. i am a low confidence wishy washy person. confidence is legitimately such a good meta scumtell on me that i have to fake this demeanor as scum and have been caught by slipping it up. ive previously made an alt where i pretended to be more confident than i actually felt as town, and admittedly i scumhunted more successfully but i felt like i was lying in every post

i sometimes drop points and get bored with them, i am a bit erratic. sometimes i will make posts for absolutely no reason purely to share my thoughts with the thread. it's just me being me!

and i'm trying to win but i'm more here to have a good time than to prove i'm the very best like no one ever was. i already know that i'm not particularly good at this game, i'm just here because it's something to do.

I feel like I would have proposed to dance with you as scum too (because I would have thought “that’s what I’d do as town”) but I’m not totally sure! I might have actually waited until I caught up or something!
Yeah, I think so too. Though you might've been able to get away with it with few enough people who know us.

OkaPoka- not impressed so far, could be scum
unwnd- not super sure what to make of this person in general.
Dunnstral- probably town
Firebringer- I want to lean scum but I know he just doesnt play mafia the way I want him to
SXTLHGaiden- probably town
DeasVail- not sure yet
Oversoul- recently downgraded to not sure
Ankamius- leaning town

MariaR- needs to post more
Alisae- townish
popsofctown- idk. Thought getting a town read here should be easy but it hasn't been
Gamma Emerald- this guys posts leave literally zero impression on me and I could not tell you a single thing hes said without looking
Creature lupin007- I know that I usually suspect creature so I'm trying not to be overly affected by not liking his posts
Bitmap- pretty close to neutral
Cephrir- hilarious; attractive
Shiro- has zero content which I'm going to put as a scum lean on principle

For one thing, with 14 town and 3 scum being neutral is kind of bad.
For another, since the time of my read list gamma in particular improved in my eyes. I also wouldn't have minded creature as the predance lynch at the time I posted that bitmap should have been (to be clear my read of creature is now townier), but there was no consensus there and that lynch couldn't have been done if say this were an ordinary game

Seems a little silly and melodramatic. Best way to clear your slot is to champion a scummerino lynch #1! You two have the power~~~
I know. It just doesn't do much for my morale to be a universal scumread.

Spoiler: a couple times
I was most recently scum in the abandoned game of Hope Plus One. I was also scum in some newbie game a long time ago where I was scum with Elvis Knits. I was SK in some large normal where Vi caught me. I was scum with StrangerCoug in an open multiball once, that one is easy to remember cause it had werewolves and coug has a furry avatar. I cam across some old game where I deadwon as scum with RedCoyote. And I won as last man standing scum in a iteration of Cyclic Mafia

I think that's all the times I've been scum. Probably I don't curate links to my past games
ok i looked at the recent game and the thing i was wondering about mostly turned up in your favor but it couldve been because that game was bad

unfortunately my reasoning will be handwaved as "scum can magically persuade anyone they are town in a pt" and i'll admit that's true a lot of the time, but he's hitting the right notes for me in terms of the way he's approached me. there's been a pretty believable trajectory that hits some right emotional notes and some posts that would be pretty difficult to make as scum - not impossible, but i think it'd be tough to make them without overanalyzing the wording so much you ultimately post something robotic

this post might as well be blank in terms of being useful to anyone else, but it's good enough for me, at least for now

Its pathetic that we still havent lynched two people who literally both only show up to flail at whoever is attacking them and then goes back to silence, instead choosing a pair that is actually playing the game and not doing anything particularly wrong that anyone has actually articulated. Why doesnt this smell plainly scum motivated to anyone else?

i doubt you were a big part of the reason that wagon went through my dude

For heaven's sake ceph, there's a wealth of goodies out there in thread-land. Why is it you or FB-Shiro?

Mustn't there be more fuel for the FB-Shiro fire if there is a scummerino in there?
i don't have a strong enough scumread on anyone else to justify a case, and without me doing something drastic those seem like the only options.

By definition I dont think shes scum, as if I have one right each of those would only be 33% even if I were unbelievably cocky

But mostly none of her posts have made me think shes town

Sorry, I wish I had more for you

i guess i'll read it, but i feel like it's going to be tough for them to have a lot of interaction when my primary complaint with shiro is that they seem to exist solely to defend themselves

ngl i reread oka's iso and was like "my biggest takeaway is that i still think this person is town so i guess i'm just a dipshit"

i might just be too dumb for this then because that doesn't make much sense to me!
