honestly i think the opposite. especially in a setup like white flag where scum have to protect each other to some extent. you can associative hunt very very effectively.

i think the problem is moreso scum distancing very poorly when not intending to lynch their partner rather than scum bussing in situations they shouldn't

I think people should start understanding that nightless games should ACTUALLY be nightless and people should stop taking the ability to kill as opposed to mislynch or fool strong townies for granted.

The first thing you want to learn to do is not get lynched without being forced as scum and learning that is a very individual journey learning what your tells are and what gets you lynched as both alignments and I can't help with that.
My advice would be more useful for people who are already very accomplished as scum.

I think it's a few things
1) People generally don't start scumreading me for no reason until after day 1 and it's nice to be able to comfortably play town leader. Generally when I'm kept alive past D1 it's because I'm at least somewhat viably a mislynch
2) It's a lot more fun and a lot more rewarding to put scum teams together before any of them have flipped as opposed to after.
3) idk if I'm phrasing this right, but I feel like on later days people generally have a lot of preconceptions about the gamestate whereas on D1 everything is up in the air and it's a lot easier to convince people they're wrong, or lead on scum who are playing well.

The issue with geriatric games isn't the ruleset it's that there's always several townies who don't put any real effort in and the game becomes no contest for scum.

To be honest, those tend to not be very fun games and tensions run high. Look at any scummies invitational.
You do need a mix of hardcore and casual players
Not necessarily hardcore vs casual
You need townies who aren't going to individually try to carry the game.

it is detrimental to the game's atmosphere to demand others replace out, particularly if it's not on the basis of activity but rather player expectations of how a player should play the game
It does leave some leeway around for inactivity though
