Greetings, players.

Introductions and few ground rules are in order before we do anything.

I am planning on running D&D using a game engine called VASSAL. It's a fairly popular way to play boardgames/cardgames through the internet. It's open-source, free, and works on different platforms. To join my game, you will have to install VASSAL and have my module.

I have modified an D20 existing module to meet my needs, and I will make it available somehow in upcoming future.

I also have few questions on your previous experience, and any expectations on the game, if you don't mind sharing.

I don't use Homebrew materials.

I also do have a list of materials that are toxic to the game and should be avoided.

For beginners, I think it's a good idea to limit yourself to the Player's Handbook. (PHB)

Please do not use dice rolls to generate stats. Instead, use the point-buy system. Use the D&D calculator (the bottom one), and you are allowed to allocate up to 25 points.

Your stats look good, although I do worry about your STR a bit...

We'll be starting at level 1.

For starting gold, we will be using the average.

I believe for bards it is 100 gp.

This might be useful to you in case you want to start out with a healing potion:

costs 50 gp.

I think your flat-footed AC should be 11 for (+1 size), and your grapple should be -7 (+0 BAB, -4 size, -3 STR).

In case it ever comes up, your
Dagger melee attack roll is -3 (+0 BAB, -3 STR) with 1d4-3 damage. (-3 STR)
Dagger range attack roll is +1 (+0 BAB, +1 DEX) with 1d4-3 damage (-3 STR) This is when you throw your dagger. It only has 10 ft range though. (which is 2 squares)

Singing vs playing an instrument is your choice. It's true that singing usually is a superior option, since you don't have to carry an instrument around. (it actually takes a move action to take out your instrument from your bag) However, there might be niche situations where you might be gagged but still be able to play a guitar. It's up to you.

Do you have access to the player's handbook?

Garmr, rogues have +0 BAB at level 1.

Therefore, you do not meet the prerequisites for the feat Weapon Finesse.

Please make adjustments.

Rogues start with 125 gp btw.

You can pick up weapon finesse on level 3.

Until then, I recommend you stick with ranged/thrown weapons.

What should I prestige into?

For your first character, I highly recommend staying with your original class all the way.

Not really I'm going to prestige into arcane trickster so I'll end up wearing robes (I'll modify them into outfits that look like thieves to keep with the arcane trickster look).

It may be worth it at low levels to invest in an armor, depending on how your party composition ends up looking like.

Is this the thread where I make GreyICE throw a fit by saying how cool pathfinder is?

Spoiler: Movement rules

Each square on the gameboard represents 5 feet.

A Medium or Small sized creature takes up space of 5 feet by 5 feet. (or 1 square)

Therefore, if your speed is 20 feet, then you can move up to 4 squares with 1 move action.

Diagonal movement alternates between counting as 1 and 2 squares of movement.

This picture explains it further: X is where you are.



You see that 1st diagonal space counts as 1, but the 2nd diagonal space counts as 2, which is why it costs 3 squares to get to the 2nd diagonal space.

So here's a question:



eyestott and Hanasawa are currently engaged in melee with spider A.

eyestott has speed of 20 feet, and Hanasawa has speed of 30 feet.

Can eyestott reach spider B with one move action? How about Hanasawa?

Hanasawa actually ends up provoking total of 3 attacks of opportunity from the spider A when she moves in the route you described.

Good thing creatures only get one attack of opportunity! (there are exceptions to this rule)

Generally, creatures without Int score, such as spiders, cannot get feats, but they could still have bonus feats built-in.

For example, there might be a special strain of spiders called "Hunter Spiders" that are stronger, more agile, and have Combat Reflexes built-in.

Having high skill ranks in the appropriate Knowledge category is vital in recognizing such strain and its abilities before seeing it in action. (failed Knowledge rolls are often accompanied by dire surprises)

Caled, I don't mind if my party has more than 4 people in it, so feel free to assign more people to Team Australia, but you should do this before I upload the module.

Team Australia, it's not uncommon to get wiped out first time you play. Please don't be discouraged if you end up dying.

Shortspear attack roll should +2 or -1 depending on whether you're using it in melee, or throwing it.

In regards to ammunition, such as crossbow bolts/arrows:

I think keeping track of individual ammo is tedious and doesn't add much to the game.

After you purchase ammo the first time, just assume you have infinite stock of it.

How do i calculate spell resistance?

You don't have any, but if you were from a race that had spell resistance, you'd write it there.

Damage reduction? in the weapons slots, what do i put in "attack bonus"?

You don't have any, but if you were from a race that had damage resistance, you'd write it there.

Attack bonus is the number you add to your attack roll.

For melee weapons, your attack bonus is: BAB + Str modifier

For ranged weapons, your attack bonus is: BAB + Dex modifier

What is spell save? How do i calculate arcane spell failure?

Your spell save DC is 10 + Cha modifier + level of the spell.

Arcane spell failure is given by your armor. Since you don't wear any, you don't have to worry about it.

Are my new stats better than my old stats?

I would say yes, since strength score of 4 is precariously low.

There are things in the D&D world that can damage your ability scores, such as poison, and dropping to zero strength would mean that you will be helpless, unable to move a muscle.

You should learn how to calculate save DCs for your spells, since you're going to play a spellcaster.

Up to 690 pounds I think.

Ignore "Spell Save".

Your spell save DCs are how difficult it is for someone to resist your spells.

Your spell DCs are calculated by: 10 + spell level + your CHA modifier.

For example, you cast

Daze

on a goblin.

Daze

is a 0-level spell, and your Charisma modifier is +3. Therefore, your spell DC for

Daze

is 13.

Now, the goblin will roll a will save, and if it it doesn't roll 13 or higher, then it loses its actions for 1 round.

Ook I playtested the module with my friend.

The fog of war (and the nighttime shading) wasn't working as intended, and it looks like I'll have to do it manually, at least until I have more time to code what they have in roll20.

Tested the game pieces. They work just fine so far. I am coding the figures to be able to be moved with keyboard inputs. This click and drag thing gets tiring after awhile.

I tested out a map I made. It worked wondrously, all the boxes were in correct positions.

I will also have the basic shop, feats, skills, and advancement tables available in the module.

Make sure to have VASSAL installed. I will release the module soon.

Coding is basically done, and I'm in the process of writing the campaign.

I will need to make the maps I need, import into paint or some other image processing program, edit and resize, import them into the module, and playtest them individually.

I should be finished by Friday.

I'm going to take a level in wizard yet I kinda want a crow familiar it's not in core. It's exactly like raven but instead of appraise check i get the rats fort save of +2 so basically it's a rat with wings and can speak my language.

Note that larger party size means that XP will be split among larger number of people, and you guys will end up leveling slower than usual.

Your highest leveled class does not count when calculating multiclass xp penalties.

In regards to leveling up and gaining new spell slots, I've decided to let the spellcasters gain their new spell slots when they refresh their daily spell slots.

This goes for all spellcasters, spontaneous or not.
