I can't tell you what will work for you. But I can tell you what works for me when I'm feeling bad about a game.

If it's because of game-related things (i.e. your team is losing, you or someone you townread is getting mislynched), the best thing to remember is that it happens to everyone and it may not be anyone's fault. And yeah there are people who brag about not being mislynched but they either (a) are exceedingly easy to read which means their scumgame sucks or (b) shout so loud that nobody wants to argue with them which is not a positive trait.
For the rest of us, [b{we all get mislynched for stupid reasons sometimes, and it's not your fault either[/b].

If your confidence was damaged by getting mislynched once, then maybe you should set lower standards for yourself. Just play to do the best you can and when you lose you can chalk it up to the fact that everyone loses sometimes.

If you're feeling bad because of the players (i.e. toxicity, rampant lurking and apathy), the best thing is to not let it worry you. You can't control how these people act; what you can do is make the best of it. Try to do the opposite and encourage others to do the same. If someone's being toxic, be nice to them and get everyone else to ignore the toxicity.

Mafia, when viewed competitively, is a contradictory game. The way for everyone to achieve the highest winrate is through trust telling every game, but nobody wants to do that because it isn't fun. So, uh, don't play exclusively to win. Play to have fun. If you lost but had fun, that's still a success. Even better if you lost but EVERYBODY had fun.

I don't know exactly what the problem is, so if you already know this stuff or you know it won't apply to you, go ahead and ignore it. Just giving a braindump of what helps me

Things aren’t getting any better for me. Since I got mislynched, my confidence in my ability to play properly has hit an all time low. Whenever I contemplate signing up/replacing in for a game, I basically have a panic attack and decide against it. I don’t know how to fix this.

People have different methods to decide who is obvtown and who isn't, so just because you feel like you're obvtown doesn't mean other people will see you in same way. If your goal is to become obvtown, you have do things that are obvtown in their POV, not yours. Also, people are extremely paranoid in mafia games and often their actions are driven by their paranoia rather than logic

I think the absolute worst thing about mafia for me, is it tends to bring out my aggressive critical side. When I see really dumb play, I have difficulty not calling it out and I can have a very sharp tongue which sometimes gets me into trouble, especially with people I care about, which sucks on numerous levels. I’m really a very nice person irl but it probably doesn’t seems that way on mafia sites. I think it’s all about the ”judgement” process that is involved in every game. You know that the nature of the beast is paranoia based but knowing that doesn’t make it any easier, when you get misunderstood.

I think I’ve gotten a lot better at it though and have become more patient and more chill, which is probably helpful in the real world. Maybe I’m a masochist but I love to constantly challenge myself at an emotional level. Still, it’s an ongoing struggle for me. :/

There's about a forty different things that can make any game of mafia bad. It's not an intrinsically good game. You can have good games of mafia, but it is frankly just not open to the closely balanced gameplay of things like chess, LOL, starcraft, etc.

I actually burnt myself out since Team Mafia. I think as long as you take a long break, you'll be able to come back if you want to. I think playing in one game is important especially if you engage with the thread a lot (either through interaction or over-reading). Don't be me and almost be in 5 games back to back. You could also just host a game, less stressful, but still have a game to read. I guess if you still like Mafia, then you should just take a break from it until you are ready to come back, and remember to deal with life since Mafia can distract us from it for a while. (Some of us, like myself)

If you’re doing pretty much anything just to get a scummie imho, you’re doing it wrong. I mod because I enjoy being creative and designing but it needs to be a shared experience. The players weren’t being rude or unfair, they very civilly and respectfully gave advice to him which would have greatly enhanced the experience for the players or at least make the game playable.

This me in probably ever game I ever sign up for. I honestly think I don’t even hate the suffering anymore even though it briefly emotionally wrecks me. I must be addicted to it.

I don’t think I really do it too much for that? I’ve made friends and have plenty of people on discord to talk to. I think I do it to not feel numb and I’m scared if I stop that’s what will happen and prolonged periods of emotional numbness is extremely detrimental to me because it’s so goddamned easy for me to do that if unchecked for long enough.

I also found out indirectly that playing mafia is really great for my ADD and also legit fear it getting worse if I stop. I seriously have experienced actual proof of this.

Sometimes I even don’t totally hate it. My favourite part is hydraing, that’s almost been a consistently rewarding experience for me, so that sometimes buffers the negative aspects because hydraing is like the most fun thing ever.
