Um... is this question "how do you pull a bait and switch?" Or "what games of similar complexities are there in other genres?"ShowThat which is done out of love always takes place beyond good and evil

Probably the latter.
The two player game my nongamer mom enjoys the most is Dominion. It is similar to Codenames in that it is not very adversarial. The rules are a bit more complex than Codenames and the best strategies are a lot more difficult to work out than they are in games she's liked less, which is surprising (Carcassone, Splendor). I think part of it is that she can lose and still have a pretty good time due to the way the game is structured, and the element of chance adds some fun (she gets excited about hitting exactly 6$ when she draws her good cards together while Splendor is very low RNG. Actually come to think of it she asked me to buy Ticket To Ride after a friend taught her and that game is kind of randomier Splendor so I'm even surer that's what it is).
She would probably enjoy Machi Koro too but that has less depth at the top end so I'm not going to risk a downgrade by letting her try that one. It has simpler rules than Dominion if Dominion seems like too much for your wife. Dice instead of cards. In many ways they are actually the same game.
That's my anecdotal data."Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."
"What? Nothing? You would make the prince suffer over... nothing?"- shaft.ed

How do I brainwash my wife into liking decent board gamesIn post 3400, GreyICE wrote:Um... is this question "how do you pull a bait and switch?" Or "what games of similar complexities are there in other genres?"
so far my options are:
Scrabble
Code Names
Pictionary (I don't even know how this is supposed to work for two players)
I can't get her to like anything else- GreyICE

Play Paperback.
Alternatively, play Scrabble properly so she hates Scrabble.ShowThat which is done out of love always takes place beyond good and evil

Doesn't matter. Playing scrabble properly is about denying people the ability to put words down anywhere useful. It's like screwing with each other on purpose. Like you memorize all 2 and 3 letter words and just turn the board into a morass of pain.In post 3404, shaft.ed wrote:

Patchwork is an excellent suggestion. I really enjoy it as a two player game. I'd also suggest another word game, such as Paperback, if you want to shift away from Scrabble. In post 3406, PJ. wrote:she might like patchwork? idk, i'm dumb.jdodge1019: hasjghsalghsakljghs is from vermont

surprise board game cafe day
*Sagrada x2 - It's pretty much what I expected. Colorful dice, shiny premise, and ultimately a vaguely interactive game where whoever fulfills their private win condition best wins. Although I won the second game more because my opponent had a REALLY bad time with their board.
*Dice Throne (Cursed Pirate vs. Artificer) x2 - Artificer has a lot of toys to play with but he spends too much time with them to outpace Cursed Pirate's damage output. CP won both games by dropping megabombs of damage.Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.- Chickadee

I've played Pandemic Legacy Season 1 and 2, and just got invited to replay them, so I'm trying to prepare myself for the emotional rollercoaster all over again. Really just Season 2 that got me....still not over it. I was THE person, if you've played through Season 2 you know what I mean.
One person in the new group has played through season one. She's about 4 months into Season 2 and it's been about a year and a half since her group got together, so they've just given up on it. Two of them have not played either seasons. The group I originally played with has all moved away, one by one, so this will potentially be a group I can play Season 3 with when they finally get it out. Supposedly it comes out Q4 this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed back.Instagram: BoneSpellArts
