We're taking the classic forum game of Investments into the digital age!

The concept is simple:

The premise of the game is simple, you are an investor given some virtual dollars and use those dollars to buy virtual stocks which fluctuate every quarter in an attempt to make as much money as possible. In addition to that you can participate in various exciting events from time to time. I will be in charge of the government, the businesses that are selling stocks.

I'll keep a list of players in a very very special spreadsheet.

THIS IS THE SPREADSHEET.

Every 18-48 hours, I'll update the stock prices for that day, and announce any special events! Any stock price changes and events will be announced in this thread.

To start the game, each new player will be given $1,000. From there...your destiny is yours to chart! Post your stock purchases/sales here, and I'll update the spreadsheet. This game starts...right now! You can join the game at any time, always with $1,000.

Red Beds

This bedding company has an unbelievable selection. It's considered lightly volatile, but will tend to go up in value, generally.

Green Machines

-$84/share
This manufacturing company is well-regarded, and, despite recent overall slowdowns in manufacturing, is expected to continue to see slight, regular growth in future periods.

Blue Shoes

-$0/share
This clothing company is a relatively new business, which has a hold on the shoe subscription service business. This company went on Shark Tank, though the episode has not premiered yet. As a "start-up", you could see wide shifts in value from this company.

Yellow Fellows

-$94/share
This moving company will move your goods across the country with nary a complaint. This stock tends to be moderately volatile, and could go up or down on any given day.

Purple Merkels

-$76/share
This political journalism business has high highs and low lows! This stock is lightly influenced by the actual news cycle, both domestic and international, and can see high variance.

Orange Mortgages

-$150/share
This blue-chip stock has been well-regarded for years. One of the largest banks in the country, Orange Mortgages has consistently good earnings. However, a recession can hit any business hard, and this bank is no exception.

Black Attacks

-$55/share
This military-industrial tech company has hit hard times recently, and is expected to decrease in the future. However, when this company's fortunes turn, you can expect a dramatic increase in value.

Teal Steals

-$111/share.
This clearance warehouse just entered the stock market and anything could happen! Expect some modest volatility. You're not quite sure if, over time, this stock will tend to go up or down.

went up $3. As impeachment talk simmers in the House, more clickbait articles help this company's bottom line.

Orange Mortgages

went up $4. More mortgages--no problems!

Black Attacks

saw a rare increase of $15! Who's prepping for war this time?

I thought the spreadsheet was gonna keep track of each each company's fluctations but it just tells me how much money everyone has. I don't care about that!

saw absolutely stunning growth as they've figured out how to use algorithmic advertising to their advantage. The stock goes up $10.

Yellow Fellows

also saw record-breaking growth as one of their primary competitors declared bankruptcy today. The stock goes up $9.

Purple Merkels

--With not much to write about, there was little movement in stock value. The stock goes up $2.

Orange Mortgages

sees continued excellent growth, going up $6.

Black Attacks

feels its first typical downturn, going down $8.

had a steady day in the markets, and didn't grow or shrink.

finally sees some movement, and manufacturing spicy things is HAPPENING! This stock goes up $4.

has had a phenomenal day yet again, going up $7.

Purple Merkels

had a superb day as people were home for the weekend catching up on political news. It goes up $5.

has a great day yet again, going up $6.

has an AMAZING first day on the market, increasing by $30!

I have a special announcement! Each "new" purchase of stock during this period will be entered into a contest! 10% of all new shares (rounded down, and randomly selected) sold before the next update will be FREE to the person who purchased them!

"New" simply means that you can't sell stock and then purchase it again for it to count. For example, if you sell five purple before the next update, then buy six purple, you would only have ONE share count toward this contest.

Sorry about the judgment calls on this, y'all, I hope it clarifies these types of conflicts going forward. For full disclosure, I do not do anything to the spreadsheet to reflect trades between updates, so you'll have to factor any trades since the last update into your calculations.
