You may investigate a player each night to learn if they have a player other than themselves they must control the death of in order to win (Lyncher and Unlyncher).

Jester is bastard when it endgames upon victory. That's p much what the wiki says and I agree with that stance.

1) Don't listen to Chennisden. I've gotten into a fight with them over roles, so it's just best to continue on with what you were originally planning on doing and ignoring them.
2) Like TL said, GIM is about making whatever creative/weird/potentially unbalanced roles you want. Balance with the roles isn't really that big of a concern, and roles that are extremely unbalanced would probably get rerolled anyways. Otherwise, if you're me, (and a dick), you'd probably keep the extremely unbalanced/unfair role just for the laughs. People knew it was possible, so that was their fault.
I mostly just submit random crap I find fun/dumb references to things. Which also...

Any time, as much as you wish, you may switch the game to make days and nights opposite. This only affects what day and night are called and any abilities that function day or night only. So if used Day 1, it becomes "Night 1" but the deadline remains unchanged in any fashion.

Wacky Watch

Once per day phase, you may at any time change the deadline to be 72 hours from when the mod acknowledges the usage of this ability (mod should be timely about this). This will increase or decrease the available time in the day. If used close to deadline and the deadline would lapse between usage and acknowledgment, the deadline does not lapse and the game remains in full day. Every full IRL day the deadline is increased or decreased nets the user a point. The player needs to acquire X points to win where X equals the number of players in the game at the start.

Alliance Member

If this is rolled, select extra players to join it such that around 25% of the game share its alliance. Their win conditions will change to match this role's, but they will maintain personal and factional abilities they previously had (so a mafia affected by the role will still be able to post in the mafia PT and use the nightkill, but does not win with its mafia group). Instead all alliance members win if one player is alive at endgame. This makes the alliance a group version of a Survivor.

Town Tarot Reader


At the beginning of the game the mod draws a random number of role cards from this thread and assigns them a unique tarot card from the major arcana as an identifier.

Each night you must visit a player you haven't visited before and give them a fortune. They will get a new role card drawn from your deck. You learn the tarot card but not the role card they drew. Once a card has been drawn that player has it, it is not shuffled back into the deck. They retain their alignment.

If a non-Sliver targets a Sliver with any action, the ability also triggers on the user, with the Sliver targeted being counted as the one using the power in the case of an investigative role or any other role that needs a user to work or return an effect. Copied actions from this role do not show up to Trackers, Followers, etc.

You may submit a post you have made in the main thread at any time to the mod via PM or other direct line to the mod, with a note of what sort of crumb you made in that post. The mod then will give you a role that could conceivably be interpreted as crumbed by that post (so you may submit something originally meant as a Watcher crumb but it may get you the Tracker role instead). The mod may also add restrictions to ensure your ability is not an instant-win button.

Ninja Goon

Ninjas are a scum group that on top of needing to be 50% or more of the vote to win, must eliminate all Pirates. If a Ninja member and Pirate member are rolled in the same game, this inability to win while the other side exists applies to the Pirates as well. If only Ninjas and Pirates are alive at any point, all players besides members of those factions win.

Also I understand it will probably be confusing with the Ninja role but some smarty named a role Alien so whatever.

You show up as visiting any third-parties that die during the night. If more than 2 third-parties die in a night, you stop time, and the next cycle has the same number as the one before it (so if 3 third-parties die Night 2, Day and Night 3 become Day and Night 2). The numbers return to normal after one cycle.

Your life is backwards to all other beings, so you must write all of your posts backwards (letters being backwards is mandatory, but the player can choose whether or not to use a text reversal effect. Also claiming what you have written is “backwards” is invalid, it must actually look like it is backwards. Palindrome abuse is up to mod discretion on whether to be tolerated). Each night you may attempt to go to any possible night in the game, and try to dictate what actions may or may not happen. If a night yet to happen is selected, the action resolves then. If a night that is concluded is selected, any players saved by this action return to the game, and players killed leave the game and all actions taken by them since their new death are canceled. Any actions that are affected by your action resolve as needed in the new timeline, and lynches still occur even if the new population determines there was no majority at the time.

I tried to stay close to the original functions but a perfect analogue would be impossible in a mafia game.

You provide a method to resolve iniquities, and may give a player a 1-shot Gladiator each night. You may also phase into another player at night and learn their action and target (essentially a combined Tracker Follower). You also have four 1-shot abilities based on the lesser Incarnations you command, that may be given to a player when you inhabit them, but you may not use yourself.

Incarnation of Nature

You have access to all parts of the Llano. Each part has a unique effect, usable at night.
Morning: also known as the Song of Awakening, it reveals all players who took action that night.
Day: also known as the Song of Power, it selects a random Vanilla role and gives them a Normal power role. If no Vanillas or Named Vanillas exist it moves on to making a role with restrictions on which day/night it can act able to act any day/night, then to giving the mod-perceived weakest role a buff.
Evening: also known as the Song of Love, it makes 2 random players Lovers if they are the same alignment, or Gladiates them if they are not the same alignment.
Night: also known as the Song of Loss, it uses a modified Coroner effect on all players that die the night it is used, learning their role and all night actions they took, along with any mod feedback received via their role or any other.
Chaos: Resets the whole game back to before Day 1, and rerolls the entire setup.
All of these actions may be used as many times as desired and with no restriction on using the same action on consecutive nights. However, as Chaos changes the user’s role, this specification only nominally applies to that power.

You may determine how you investigate to certain roles at the start of the game, but you cannot change that from then. Each night you may make it seem like a third-party or anti-town player has died, but this action does not kill them. You also start with a consort, a non-player that grants you a Rolecop action each night. You may enhance this ability to a Roleblocker as well as a Rolecop, but after the first use it has an increasing chance of making your consort desert you, making you lose the powers it grants.
You win if the amount of strictly anti-town roles outnumber the amount of roles that can win with town. If the setup rolled would make this role instantly win, reroll the setup. This role is excluded from these calculations. Only one instance of this role may exist.

Fire and Ice kills cancel. If equal amounts occur on a player no kills occur. A difference of more than one in either direction makes the kill strongman. Fire and Ice kill actions cannot be given a standard Strongman modifier.

Stops a random kill attempt on a player.
Random means if 3 kills target a player targeted by a healer, a normal, Fire, and Ice one apiece, it has a 1/3 of actually saving the target

Pirate Elementalizer

If this role is generated, the Pirate factional kill becomes an Ice Kill and the Ninja factional kill, if relevant, becomes a Fire Kill.
More mechanics:
This role and one with the same name/effect but reversed elemental distribution (Pirate Fire and Ninja Ice) rolling in the same game results in this version taking priority.
If a player uses multiple Fire or Ice kills they must all hit the same target. However, in a case with this role and a Fire/Ice Mage rolling for one of the factions and matching their factional kill, the Fire/Ice Mage action and the factional kill don’t have to hit the same target if used by different players.

To give it a baseline function when not Pirate or Ninja. All Elementalizers that are not of those factions should be this by default.

Town Light-Speed Elementalizer

If this role is rolled during the middle of the game rather than at initial role generation, it must be rerolled after the effect happens. When the role is rolled all kills currently in the game are randomized to be Fire or Ice. Any killing actions that are introduced or re-introduced outside of this moment are not affected. If only one of Pirates or Ninjas is present at the moment the effect happens, and the other faction appears later, they do not immediately get their kill turned to the opposite element, but if both sides is given an element while the other is present, the newer one will be given the element opposite the older one’s current element, and if the newer one only gets an element and it is the same as the older one’s, the older one’s is changed to counter the newer one’s.

One thing I might want to see is something I would called “Plan’d Idea Mafia”. It’s a game with exclusively role in the Grand Idea thread, with little cheating of this rule allowed, but the setup is predetermined and is built to play with word or unexpected role interactions. Thing is I don’t want to clutter up my modding schedule too much so rather than hold this to run myself I’m sharing it to everyone.

Alien Thunder Mage

Has access to an Electrocution power. Electrocution takes two nights to kill generally. When a player is Electrocuted, and nothing happens the same night to remove the Electrocution, they gain an Electrocution Level. A player must be at Electrocution Level 2 at the end of the night to die by Electrocution. Electrocution Level can be lowered by being targeted by an action that can reduce it. Or, if targeted by an action that would Electrocute the target, being targeted by another action that would cause Electrocution. Doctors will not reduce the Electrocution level of their target if it would end at Level 1 the night that night, but they will save their target if they would end at Level 2 that night, and in the process reduce the Electrocution Level to 0.
This role is super intricate but I like what I created. This essentially uses the damage mechanic from Make Me Regret This UPick.


Well now we have quite a few electrical roles. Btw CPR Doctor is one too!

(version 2)
Protects a player from normal deaths, but adds 1 to their Electrocution Level, unless countered. Does not save a target it would put to Electrocution Level 2. If it triggers the “multiple Electrocution attempts on a player in a night” counter on a player that would be put at Level 2 without that happening, the counter effect sets the Level back to 0.
pretty much the same thing but kinda gimped if you’re using it to kill.

May give a player a Potion each night. Potions protect from all normal kill attempts (this excludes poisoning, ignition, freezing, Fire Kills, Ice Kills, Electrocution, and electrical charge).
Pretty much a Blacksmith but I believe Blacksmith vests only stop one kill.

And the converse. Fire and Ice Kills aren’t normal kills because they don’t work like normal, but since they resolve instantly after the calculations are done they are not Negative Statuses either. This will probably need a much more comprehensive list of what it stops, but until that exists, mod discretion should be enough.

No action by any other player can stop your death.
I remember in a game a couple years back someone claimed a role that would always die if targeted by a kill, even if the kill was Roleblocked or otherwise stopped from hitting them. This is my way of creating that role. Bulletproof vests and Potions can stop this role from dying, but they do not work the night they are received if given to this role.

Mafia 1-shot Cannibal-kill-modifier

Once in the game you may carry out the factional kill as a Cannibal action, Janitoring the kill and only being able to be stopped by roles that would prevent a Werewolf kill. When you flip and have used this action to successfully kill and Janitor someone, the person you killed with this ability flips.

Town Thunder Sage

Adds 2 to the Electrocution Level, meaning it instantly kills its target if unchecked. Healers only reduce the increase by 1, but counter-Electrocution reduces the Level to 0.
idk about any more super relevant interactions caused by the 2 level effect. But if the Electrocution Level can somehow reach Level 4, the target is Janitored as well. There should be no effective way to cheat the system as of yet, and there really should not be, as that is just meant to be an Achievement of Insanity.

You may shoot a player each night. If you shoot a player who is not town-aligned, you earn a piece of Bubble Gum. If have a piece of Bubble Gum at night you will chew it that night instead of shooting someone.
Essentially a Town Vigilante that has to wait a night to act again to act if it hits scum.

Specter

Third party. This role does not flip when it dies. If it is targeted by any night actions, it dies that night, and all players that targeted it that night become Haunted, with one becoming a Specter. Players are informed if they are Haunted, but have no knowledge of who else is Haunted. Specters are not told who is Haunted. If no Specter existed and Haunted players exist, a random Haunted player becomes a Specter. Players that become Specters lose access to any abilities they have that are not attached to being a Specter, and their alignment is changed to Specter. Only one Specter may exist, and if multiple are rolled all but one must be rerolled. Nothing may ever explicitly prevent a Specter from being lynched (so Gladiator actions and actions that limit lynching to others are fine, but Specters may not be pardoned from being lynched).

Specters win when all players are dead, Haunted, or a Specter. All dead and alive Specters win together. The game may not end until either this happens or no Specter or Haunted players exist. Haunted players may state they wish to align with the Specter, if they do this they become Specter-aligned and lose their abilities, but may still win with their original alignment.
Sort of a death-based Cult. Excluding specially designed roles, the only way to clear out the Specter is through lynch, or Dayvig.

Each night may target a player in the game, living or dead. Any ghost-like effects involving the player targeted will be nullified (So Specters are killed and Haunted players lose their Haunted status, and if a Medium is in the game, targeting the Medium will break every connection they have and targeting a dead player they are connected to ends that connection only). This role cannot become Haunted.
Btw Haunted counts as a Negative Status. Also there might be more ways this role could interact I am not aware of rn.

I don’t know what a Brain Trust actually is but it feels like the best idea for a group that would be rooted in logical thought enough to not be swayed by a Cult.
Also, add extra players in the game to the Brain Trust if there would only be one person in it.

Sanity Cop

You may check a player to determine what their current Sanity is. If their Sanity changes (like N1 D2 N3 D4 N5 Cop) you receive the Sanity that will apply to their next action, unless the Sanity changes based on the user, in which case the Sanity of their last action is determined. This counts for roles that have completely random sanities, in which case the Sanity will be determined at the time you use your action rather than when their action is used.
Designer tip: consider using this to beef up a claimed Cop or something idk

Town Impossible Cop

May investigate whether a player is Mafia or Not Mafia, however the role fails if it would succeed and succeeds if it would fail.
Impossible is not restricted to any role type, if you can come up with a way to apply it The it can be applied. It bypasses roles like Commuters, as it supposed to be essentially the Insane modifier in this case, but role effectiveness is determined versus role result.
btw it gets “No Result” on the No Result no matter how you’d have them interact.

btw Impossible CPR Doctor would be able to stop this because it doing the kill means the Impossible CPR Doctor see it as no kill happening, thus letting it protect the player.

Special Tree Stump that gives a player that targets it with a sound based action a one shot ability randomized between {Vigilante, Doctor, Bulletproof, Roleblocker}
the latest in “Gamma can’t stop making GIM roles that reference random things, we have a Link to the Past reference! The abilities given are meant to represent certain progressive items in the LttP Randomizer. I may fix it to include the last of those once I have a good idea for it.

You cannot be protected by any roles that explicitly protect you from a specific number of kills.
This only makes roles like Double Doctor fail, roles that stop all kills like Rolestopper or Jailkeeper still work.

Note: because this iirc affects certain Werewolf role counterparts, this should rarely if ever be allowed to be paired with Werewolf alignment. This is essentially a quick problem-avoidance patch until such time as I figure out a proper approach to the issue.

I don’t think of Seer as magical but iirc the counterpart to JOAT for the Werewolf ability family is called Witch, which is pretty magic-like. I think Wizard is also used for one of those roles, maybe the Roleblocker counterpart?

Whenever you would die, you are allowed to carry on playing as an alive player for the day and night phase following your death, which includes the day you are killed if you die before twilight.
I don’t think Bleeder is supposed to be able to be saved by how EM uses it but tbh I think have it be healable is alright, plus that means it’s another Negative status

Slicing Serial Killer

Your kills inflict the Bleeding status onto your victims. Players inflicted with Bleeding are told they are bleeding out, and will die after the next day and night phase following the receiving of the status. Bleeding is a Negative Status and may be healed by anything that relieves Negative Statuses or Doctors/Doctor-like roles (such as CPR Doctor).
btw I don’t think anything that isn’t a Doctor should be able to stop Bleeding. Jailkeeper probably wouldn’t be able to effectively stop it and even then they probably wouldn’t patch up their target. And Bodyguard not only doesn’t have the means, it’s not even in the protective category of roles technically, it counts as a redirection in NAR iirc.

Archnemesis Adjuster

If this is rolled and Archnemesis is rolled, instead of working like it normally does, Archnemesis checks if Pirates and/or Ninjas exist. If both teams exist, it randomly selects a member of one of the teams, and then copies their role and moves to the other side. If only one exists, it randomly selects a member of that team, copies it’s role, and randomly selects from players not aligned with that group to be in the opposite group. If neither team exists it works as normal but it’s faction and it’s opposing faction become Pirates and Ninjas, with the Archnemesis’s side being chosen first. This role is not itself an Archnemesis and is instead a Survivor.

I think that’s a very foolish way to view “play to win”. Tbh I think that rule is kinda weird and don’t exactly recall why it exists? Plus sure I could auto-win but that isn’t fun. I play Mafia to have fun, and winning is just meant to be something to make it more fun. “Press button to win” is exceptionally boring.
And like you say you’d reroll those things, does that mean you’d also reroll the large amounts of “reroll with opposite alignment” cards? Doesn’t seem like a sensible policy if so, and will likely result in all Grand Idea games you mod being heavily metagamed.

Investigates as Mafia to Cops, and Miller to Rolecops. Each night, this player must choose a player to change the color of the role+alignment part of the Role PM. They may select a color themselves, or allow it to be randomized between all roles present in the games’ colors. If no target is chosen, one is randomizes.
