I have a word document with some totally new roles on it. I'm gonna make some setups with various numbers of people using some amount of randomly selected roles from that document, some actually selected roles from that document to make a setup that works, and no more than 2 normal roles/modifiers*. Also no more than 2 roles that aren't normal but that I've seen people use before.
*This obviously does not include VTs.

The tax collector actually has some interesting play when the accountant flips

If an accountant flips day 1, then tax collector is like a full cop

If an accountant flips day 2, then results are very hmmmm

If an accountant flips day 3, then you might even want to reverse the results

and if you check someone n1 and then check the same person again n3 it gives you more info

And if the setup includes a pirate, which is a 3p role that steals people's money to win, then it's also pretty cool

Scum bourgeousie can also exist to make it harder for a scum accountant to shift their funds

Indeed. So it is weaker than a cop, but by how much depends on setup information you don't have access to at the start of the game.

It definitely has a place as an investigative role, regardless of what other roles exist in a setup. It could literally be the only role that has anything to do with money in a setup, and it would be basically a cop but you wouldn't be able to be certain of the results simply because other roles could exist that interact with it.

I've used this whole dirty money concept to create a bunch of roles that can function as stand-alones or as part of a big set

I'm glad I got to run an 11p because this looked very balanced to me, although it might have been more balanced if all the possible roles were well documented and publicly available like in normal games
