Spoiler: Shitty theory and self-meta

So jjh actually did make one correct observation about me this game - that I was being mostly conflict avoidant, and not getting into people's faces. I don't know why he really left that though, considering that I wasn't actively pursuing conflicts (which is almost an opposite from my play in White Flag, which I think jjh is informed by).

I have been experimenting with playstyle changes after White Flag. In the recent Masons and Mafia open, I played a lot more socially than in WF. I was being aggressive, but at the same time, kept it conversational and smooth with players I was scumreading. I had a few conflicts, yeah, but was generally liked in a sense that enabled me to become effectively unlynchable in a game that lacked NKs, and letting me drive lynches (sadly losing the game ) on players I had called "99% town" earlier and still having them townread me. I also somewhat did this in a Mini Normal I replaced into around that time, by focusing energy into a slot or two at a time instead of attacking everywhere.

I also came across a post somewhere (maybe Mafia discussion?) that proffered one method of playing Mafia as developing townreads and lynching from PoE as effective. I decided I'd perhaps give this a shot (at one point I can't resist going aggro but anyway) and letting the game play while being a part of it without polarising things (a contributing reason was also my role). I don't think this really inhibits scumhunting - my previous method of relentless aggression worked >rand maybe, but I feel that this style is equally, if not more effective.

One effect of this seems to be scum disappointment at my getting townread, lol. Popsofctown made a number of posts complaining about how no one wanted to lynch me and that being a demotivating factor to her. Titus incidentally seemed to do the same here from early game - it's like scum expected I would hyperpost and polarize and start fights, and they could capitalize on that. I'm surprised I didn't pick up on what Nancy did about Titus calling me obvtown, good spot!

All that said, although we do have some form of a consensus PoE pool, the majority of activity recently has been a few town slots trying to get somewhere. I feel that given the strength of townreads that this bloc have for each other - in {Chk, Fonzie, V&M, Katz} etc for example, (yeah yeah Chk and Fonzie dislike V&M but still) scum feel comfortable letting the game just go along. I've seen scum lurk out previously but given the relative strength of this playerlist as town and scum, does that make too much sense?
