Ideally, this is true, but who's to say we even HAVE curing roles left. We already lost mastina's Vaccinator, providing temporary immunity to Town along with a conditional vig shot if she'd hit Infected. That's insanely powerful in its own right, but then Alchemist being able to cure people and make them permanently immune on top of that... combined with the existence of the naturally immune Social Distancer role... how much more anti-plague could there even be at this point?
Maybe the real Mafia was the friends we made along the way

Voting History as of End of Day 6:

This tracks who voted whom each day. Each line is formatted like Player A (2): Player B (2) --> Player C (3) where Player A is the person voting, player A votes player B in post #2, and player A votes player C in post #3. The use of ==> instead of --> indicates that the vote was not changed from its current target. People indented four spaces instead of two are replacements for a slot.

Key: * = L-1 Vote; + = Hammer Vote, ^ = Self-Vote, $ = Vote after Hammer.

Night 6 begins!

"Night is rapidly approaching... Have we reached a consensus yet?" asks the mayor. The citizens of Plague Town continue to hold out on their stances, but slowly, they begin to compromise. "I see... I shall have gobbledygook executed with great speed," states the mayor as the town finally makes their decision.

Later that evening, the mayor receives a message on his desk.
Message wrote:Dear Mayor of Plague Town:

Well done my friend, well done. You captured and executed one of us! Do you think that means the end of us? You'd be foolish to believe such! Enjoy your small victory.

Sincerely,
An Anonymous Plague Bringer

gobbledygook,
Mafia Conspirer
, was executed Day 6.

Spoiler: Role PM
Welcome, farside22, to SIR Disease Mafia!
You are a
Mafia Conspirer
!

You are a member of the mafia and may talk to your fellow conspirer at anytime. More information will be provided in a separate pm.

At the beginning of each night, you will receive a list of currently infected players. The virus possesses a killswitch, but the process of activating it is rather laborious. Thus, one of you may kill up to one infected player each night.

In addition, one of you may infect another each night with the virus. Alternatively, twice per game, you may forgo infection in order to perform an unrestricted night kill. You are already vaccinated and immune to the disease.

You win when the mafia and infected players gain parity with the town or when nothing can prevent the same.

Confirm by replying with your alignment and role name.

Night deadline is suspended since s replacement is still needed for clidd.

But wait... Something has happened!

The mayor wakes up bright and early the next morning, eager to share the good news. The head of research in the town stuns him by providing even better news, "After several anonymous blood donations from previous infected members of society, I think I have developed a vaccine that will grant permanent immunity. We're all saved!" "Well that's great and all, but what about the conspirators. We still don't know who they are," responds the mayor. "Well that's no problem either. Analyzing the virus shows direct links to the perpetrators: maxwell and Auro!" exclaims the researcher.

Preliminary Game Notes and Thoughts

I'll forgo the purple this time around. The first thing to talk about is replacements. There were an insane number of replacements this game. I don't know what the record for most filled replacements in a single game is, but I am sure this one comes close. Almost all of the replacements were not (directly) due to actions I did. I would like to apologize to farside22 though as my actions did cause her to replace out. I'm not going to go into the nitty-gritty of it (it's not really important or interesting), but the gist of it was that I broke one of my own rules (assume good faith of others), and farside22 reolaced out because she wasn't happy with my actions. As for everyone else, the reasons vary. Some did because the game was frustrating them (perfectly reasonable); some did because they couldn't commit enough time to the game; some did because they were burnt out; and some did for reasons I may not know.

Moving on, there were some complaints about how I handled questions this game. First of all, I will be adopting a different policy the next game I mod. I decided not to change policies midgame for consistency sake. Strangely enough, the policy I am going to adopt in the future is actually in my rules for this game (See Honor 2d). I guess it goes to show I don't even fully read my rules (or rather remember them).

But as to why I had the policy in the first place (or at least thought it was reasonable): when players ask questions, most of them tend to be speculative. They have the nasty side effect of attempting to confirm the existence or nonexistence of certain roles and in some cases, they may attempt to confirm someone's claim and/or alignment. I don't think using the moderator in that way is good for the game. In addition, I am much more prepared to answer questions about roles that are actually in the setup as opposed to any hypothetical role. Basically, the policy is meant to cut down on the amount of accidental mod!spewing of info that shouldn't be spewed. Hopefully you at least get an idea of where I am coming from here.

Lastly, I'd like to make some notes about the setup. First, the game's name: I'm not sure how many of you caught this, but the "SIR" in the game's name stands for "Susceptible, Infected, and Recovered", and it is a reference to the SIR Compartment Model which is a very basic way to model the spread and progression of a disease. I also had an image of the model in the signups thread. Now, the title itself alludes to two aspects of the setup: exponential growth of the disease and natural recovery. The latter I admit is more of a stretch due to the existence of possible curing roles, but I don't think it's an unreasonable connection.

I should probably note those mechanics in more detail so that everyone is on the same page. Infected players had a compulsive action to infect another player at night while infected, and infected players lost any previous active abilities they possessed (while infected). Now, you might go, "How is that possibly balance-able?" Well, I am not going to claim this was anywhere close to perfect, but the other mechanic was that players recovered on the start of the third night (this included the night of infection as one of the three) after being infected. That's a really quick recovery time. When it's combined with town's alternative win condition, I think it balances out the exponential growth of the disease by a significant extent even if it results in a rather swingy setup.

Regarding this particular run, while it's bad practice to draw conclusions based on a sample size of one, I am not super happy with the setup in its current form. In particular, I think scum did many things right this game and overall played a much better game than town. That said, I think the setup was fair enough/balanced enough to run as it was. Scum did make a key mistake in assuming that the players who naturally recovered were physically cured. They didn't use one of the key abilities they were given (killing infected) at all until it was too late.

While the natural recovery aspect of the setup might have been hard to gleam (I wouldn't guarantee that I'd pick up on it as scum), I do think there are enough clues to point to its existence. First, as previously discussed, there is the game's title and the image I used for the signups thread. In addition, scum had a key info advantage in that they knew who were infected at the start of each night. This lets them know who has been cured/recovered. When people started mysteriously disappearing from the list, that should be a red flag. Lastly, town's alternative win condition points towards natural recovery. While it's certainly possible I put in a ton of cure doctors to achieve that, in reality, that makes the win condition rather impractical. And let's not forget about exponential growth of infected. I think there were enough clues pointing towards natural recovery that while it may have been a difficult connection to make, it would not have been impossible or unreasonably difficult to make.

If there was one change I'd immediately make to the setup, it would be the way the free night kills worked. I don't think either one was well used, but I think the setup design somewhat encourages their misuse. Mafia's main power here is getting strength in numbers quickly. When they used the kill night 2, they basically reset their infection curve. In the case of night 5, they gave up a chance of outright winning. (Granted, clidd not submitting an action that night prevented that as well.) Thus, the change I'd make is that they can only use those when there are currently no infected players. Also, there intended use (and hence why mafia got specifically two) was on immune players namely the two players that cannot be infected.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the game. Thanks for playing!
(Also no awards this time because I'm lazy and am doing this on mobile anyway.)

(Also, I didn't let night 6 play out as mafia had no way of winning/drawing and town achieved their win con at the start of the night.)

Yes, I assumed there were a ton of Doctors; and PRs were the ones who could infect other people while staying infected.
My play was oriented around finding PRs and infecting them, I assumed we wouldn't have normal exponential growth.

We had a chance to win on N5? Interesting.

Even if we had deduced natural recoveries earlier, we kind of had our hands tied, as we were forced to kill Alchemist, for one. But yes, should've used infections as a NK.

But yeah, just theorizing tbh, don't mind me.

Whoops, that was an error. I thought Gobsie was infected after he self-voted. Ele/clidd's role just locked scum out, huh.

Well that was the point, we planned the self-vote to make it appear that way. We thought you knew he's groupscum, and wondered why you didn't join Aristophanes .-.

I was on
every
mislynch wagon this game, and was only absent on Gobbles' lynch wagon. I was very afraid of replacements coming in and wrecking me.

Radical Rat, I liked your play!

I thought he was groupscum on earlier days but then figured Leafy was infected/groupscum today and he was pushing Gobsie, so that didn't make any sense. Yeah, my bad. I should've figured some of your later comments to me were telling me you knew I was infected and to move to Ari.

I also think it must have been a little frustrating and difficult playing as an infected person?

I guess it was a little disorienting not knowing my allies. Leafy's self-cure claim sounded so fake and him gunning for Gobsie was what I decided to follow.

Would the game have continued if we had an Ari lynch?

I doubt it, seems like we needed to specifically lynch someone cured.

Im not sure why scum lost this game. Thanks to gg for replacing in.
I am not going to get into what happened in this game.

Night 6 would play out if Radical Rat was lynched, and the game would've continued to day 7 if clidd were lynched.

I was only in the game for a brief while so I'm not going to say much but it really sucks that town mislynched 5 times, lynched right once, and won the game. Having read through the scum PT, Auro deserves a lot of credit for trying to keep hope alive and motivate his teammates as they became demoralized in the face of what seemed insurmountable odds. We weren't able to win it but he still did his damnedest. Like I said, only a brief moment in time, but nice working with you.

Oh, definitely. A pity that we weren't able to scum together for more time.
maxwell's dedication and effort was amazing, I was quite happy that he replaced in as fellow scum instead of as town!
