Reasoning that the counting forward and sideways would rapidly overtake backwards, Farren decided to help out the negative numbers a bit.

Farren noted something else missing - the decimal point. Yes, there were fractions - including at least one that could be expressed without having to wade through letters - but really, decimals are more fun.
