Okay, guess I have to use it at a game night sort of thing eventually. It is a minimum of three players, but I think a max of 5, and we generally have 6 players at any function, though.
I've only made one good post, and don't you dare accuse me of doing it again.

The first 3 expansions (Cosmic Incursion, Cosmic Conflict, and Cosmic Alliance) all add pieces to add another player in - I wouldn't recommend getting all of them and going all the way up to 8 players (With that many everyone tends to only get 1, mayyybe 2 turns), but I think 6 players still works very well. Cosmic Incursion giving a special defender bonuses deck makes defending more enticing too in case people that you play with tend to glom onto every attack to get colonies, I highly recommend it.

yeah 5-6 people is the sweet spot, any more is a clusterfuck that will probably be not fun for at least one person

Okay.

Also, I finally played Ticket to Ride yesterday. It was a gift to my girlfriend and her brothers last Christmas and they have all been playing for a couple of weeks now that they have had the chance, so we finally got the opportunity for me to get involved in the train fun. Good game.

it's a good game to straddle the non-gamer/gamer threshold
a lot better than Catan and a bit better than Carcasonne

I think it might be fun to play more cutthroat, but I've only done it with brother/his kids/our parents and we usually take it easy on each other

yeah Ticket to Ride is basically the new gold standard for gateway game
Teaching Catan is always a lot slower than I expect it to be, and newbies usually don't stand much of a chance outside of a lot of dice help
Carcasonne is too points centric
Ticket to Ride is also good because even if you don't get top score, you can feel like you succeeded if you get a route or more completed
Turns are also quite quick even for people with analysis paralysis
That said, I find the game itself rather boring

I've never played Cosmic Encounter

I'd prefer teaching an even more fast-paced, Ticket to Ride: New York. Only takes 15 minutes to play and still the same fun game.

I don't really understand the Carcassonne hate, although I suspect most of the expansions would reduce my enjoyment of the game.

they are usually either gimmicky or add point salad

The River was p good though as it opens up the playing space. This fundamentally changes the way the game plays

Hello,
YoshiX
. You are
Carcassonne
. For years, Reck did nothing but play you. You were his favorite board game. All he did was sit around and study techniques and strategies to get better at playing you. After awhile, though, he forgot about you... however, at Caffwagon 2010, Reck finally remembered how amazing you are!

You are an
Innocent Child Cop
:

Active Abilities:

Bored Gamer
- Each night, you may send me the name of one person to investigate, and I will inform you whether or not they are town aligned.
Calling The Bluff
- At any point during the game, you may publicly request for me to mod-confirm you as a town role, and I will do so.

Passive Abilities:

None

Win Condition (Town):
You win when all threats to town have left the game.
***MODNOTE: Paranoid cop.

yep, 2010 was a time.
