mystery box of silver ten: titans of the votehouse LETSA GO

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Mon Sep 14, 2020 5:01 pm

Post by schadd_ »

Do you remember, long ago, the satyrical commentary on the large theme form,
mystery box of silver five
, the aberrant fifth installment of the fan favorite series of satyrical commentaries on the micro form? no? that is because it did not play out very well and was a disaster in motion.

see, that game asked a lot of its players and didn't give the players the tools they needed to keep that engagement up. i am attempting to remedy this by splitting the difference and cranking up what is asked of the players AND cranking up the corresponding tools.

we are overclocking this thing.

welcome to mystery box of silver ten: titans of the votehouse.

you can think of the mystery box series as me attempting to put forth what i wish to see more of in mafia games. normally these are micros because it is easy to make a micro setup that has a few fun things and zero problems. indeed: i got scummy nominations for setups that had like three characteristics.

mbos 5 was a shot at a third party that had actionable and fun goals, and that could potentially have been figured out by a committed and/or fortunate town. this is still something i do not see in large themes, but thats because i havent followed a large theme game since that time i ran one. anyone remember that?

what is for sure not in the large theme queue often enough, is me making fun of house of cards. so that is what i will be putting forth in this game. i dont like that show.

characteristics of this game
  • there will be 23 players.
  • you should not play this if you haven't finished at least two non-newbie games.
  • hydras up to 3 heads
  • everyone is multitasking. private threads will generally be open at all times. there is no redirection. if you can think of something similar to redirection, it's probably not in this. this is also generally unlike a role madness game - plenty of people will be vanilla or almost vanilla.
  • you can ask me questions.
  • northsidegal reviewed the setup. errant pabola will be my backup moderator.
  • romance???????
motifs of the series:

assignment of roles to town by mafia; heavy information to mafia; night actions being determined by events (e.g., two players are assigned to collaboratively use a doctor ability); normal roles or otherwise non-flashy roles; uncertain guilties vs. certain innocents; setup fake-outs; vanilla by any other name tastes just as sweet.

did another ms user do something lovely? recognize their achievements here!

Today's modern mafia consumer demands dozens, nay, hundreds of roles that are vanilla cops.

Of all tyrannies,a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Confirming Hopkirk.

Now I know what you're all wondering. On our avatar which one is which powerpuff girl? We spent a few hours vigorously debating this. We had to kick EgdufEkac out of the hydra in the end because she insisted that she get to be her overpowered self insert powerpuff girl from her powerpuff girls fanfic. This worked out pretty well in the end since we realized there was a maximum of three heads anyway.

Blossom - The pink/red smart one and the leader of the group. I wanted to go with Bubbles until Flopz started sending me photoshopped fanart of me dressed as Bubbles. Obviously it didn't look anything like me and was super weird, but I really didn't want him to keep sending me more pictures so in the end I just agreed to make him stop. Spoilers - he didn't.

Bubbles - The blue airhead. I'm blonde and have blue eyes so obviously Flopz insisted on being this one. Not a smart move picking the airhead Flopz, feels like the kind of move Bubbles would make tbh.

Buttercup - The green angry tomboy. Flopz wanted to be this one at the start so Hectic knocked most of his teeth out and that pretty much decided things. Hectic broke both of Flopz's kneecaps anyway just to be on the safe side. I for one support this move, mostly because I love my kneecaps.
It takes a lot more than a couple of cheap shots to make us cry.
