We have added a rule to the Game Specific Rules to read:

Replacements, while sometimes necessary, also serve as an outside influence. As such, do not tell other players to replace out. Do not publicly threaten to replace out of a game. If you do need to replace out, do not publicly discuss your reasons or anything else, as you are no longer a player in the game. PM your game moderator if you are considering replacing out or have concerns and believe another player should be replaced out.

Replacements are a necessary but unfortunate part of mafia. But as time has gone on, we've seen more and more players using the threat of replacement as a way of manipulating the game state. In addition to being an outside influence, it creates a negative game atmosphere where players have to decide whether to try to placate someone threatening to replace out in order to keep the game intact or not.

Additionally, it is detrimental to the game's atmosphere to demand

others

replace out, particularly if it's not on the basis of activity but rather player expectations of how a player should play the game. If you have a problem with another player such that they need to replace out, bring it up with the game moderator privately.

To be clear, replacing out is still acceptable. But if you wish to replace out, talk to the game mod rather than threaten to do so within the game. As this is a new rule, expect enforcement to start with increasing awareness before moving to more severe punishments. But the rule is currently operative, so expect to be "called out" on the behavior going forward.

i dont rly have a lot to say that i didnt say in the mod thread at some point. i think the public cop was anti fun in a bunch of ways and it would be on the top of the chopping block if i were to go back in time & fix this setup (i would get rid of the one that happened to nbee + the ones from scum on nights 2 and 4) (i would also give hpjs way more incentive to try to execute the masons, i.e. they get 3 points if they execute any one of the three)

there weren't 6 masons. hpjs do not count towards parity

it was a mistake in the wording

initially clarified it to what i had intended in the design, which was that health interns count as town for parity. later went back on it, i decided sticking to what i had communicated was better (and didn't violate the way anyone else had played the game) as well as being better for the game in general

i think you made perfectly correct kill choices up until then (i.e. nights 1-3 you took out the acting PRs, which is i think what you would have wanted) and then the mastina kill was surely not what you wanted but still not so bad in the grand scheme of things i think. you were also one mis-exec away from winning. again if i had a time machine i would go back and uh not clarify it for you in the way i did briefly. sorry

the way things played out with HPJS was odd. i think the biggest thing they had to offer in terms of town power was loudly telling everyone they were masons, which would have made things seem way more uphill to the wolves. in conception it didn't occur to me this would happen obviously, in fact the scenario where they all claimed almost right away seems odd and bad for the actual wincon (they get a lot of points by getting nightkilled, and why would you nightkill a claimed non-town 3p - i think they would have really struggled to get 4 points if not for the executions lining up perfectly like they did). also titus' reads were on fire

i picked the colors slightly ranodmly just because i didn't want what sort of alignment they were to be clear from the color (same goes for the naming of the alignments). hpjs ended up a sort of dark green, which i would say is evidently different from the town green (although it lights up a little bit on mafblack). the masons were a blue grey color

at the end of the day the setup was really just like trying to throw shade at what it means to be 3p and make for something that is theoretically a masonry that people have meaningful reason to distrust. i think, for instance, nothing i had ever said ruled out the interns + the society as one big anti-town faction that just didn't have kill power (a la jungle oligarchy). in concept it makes for a couple interesting day phases while everyone is piecing together / paranoid about what the story is with them, which i think happened a little bit. but i had a poor view as to how things would play out in the long term

the idea of "we kind of just had to go with them" is interesting, and seemed resoundingly true - i thought it was hilarious that everyone was like stopping to make sure they got to do their votes just so they could fulfill their wincon. that and a lot of other problems boil down to, like, i just didnt think they would be out and about like they were

getting a mason executed could have been so fun. i agree wagon one wasn't very brilliant, i just wanted it to be more likely they would have somewhere to vote during the day (the idea with the points system to begin with is to give them reason to pay attn to all parts of the game so they aren't just totally bored like the olfs).

publishing a scum wincon would have sealed the game out as single-ball. i think it doesn't really harm the way you approach the game if you don't know how it's going to end - you still want to be executing scum whenever you can (even if it's a kind of feel bad outcome to not know how long you get). similar idea for the HPJS everyone-else-dies outcome; i think there's precedent in 3rd party games for them to make the game end (jester / mime setups do this sometimes i think). i guess i ought to have added a "but some things can cause you to lose" clause in the town wincon but everyone would get spooked by that

i guess my understanding of "winning" in mafia is that it is generally just better to win at more people's exclusion. like theres a basic thing which is that you are making other people's win/loss tracker worse relative to yours. and i wanted HPJS to be able to get the 3p scummy. lol.

in an ideal world the game is 15:5. but also in many worlds there was an even better invest on night 1, so yeah the info thing was like ass shit. not something i would really do again, at least as unsophisticatedly as i did here - just an intrusive thought i would have in MBOS setups quite often

there was ways to get confirmed info about HPJS via contracting, that just didn't ever get used (though honestly that's probably for the better, that was a whole can of worms that could have probably had some really nasty outcomes). i think having a single person faction in a large game just doesn't work, if they are a points system then they also become a survivor because they have to be alive to get their shit done (which is also really hard to do as a single person)

it could kind of let them just confirm anything abt themselves if they wanted although it would be problematic for them to hold themselves to that standard since they might get expceted to like publish their whole wincon or make promises about being essentially town - i still think there would have been some bad game-health implications to it down the line which were ignored because i think it looked boring and complicated
