MafiaScum Idol Season 1 (And the winner is...)

Post Post #0 (isolation #0) » Sat Jun 20, 2020 9:09 am

Post by Malkon05 »

Hello MafiaScum users!

My name is Malkon05 and I love to sing! I know there are other users on this site who love to sing as well, but would love to have a place to showcase their talents, have some friendly competition, and hear some of the best of the best in online singers <3

A little bit about me
:
I have been singing since I was in high school and have participated in/judged many online singing competitions. I have traveled to China twice as part of traveling choral groups. I have sung at professional concert halls as part of a group, and solo. I have been part of jazz groups, modern ensembles, a reggae group, a rock group, and even was in a show as a backup singer for Allen Toussaint and Liz Wright.

Here is a little something I recorded today in one take (wasn't trying super hard or anything).http://www.singsnap.com/karaoke/watchan ... 33?mixed=1

Intro:

Anyways, this is the inaugural season of this contest and it is open to anyone who can sing! Each week there will be a theme that you will have to pick a song from in order to perform. There are no limits to how you submit, so long as it is really you singing. You like Soundcloud? Great! You like vocaroo? Great! You like Youtube? Great! Just pick a medium that I can go through and judge week to week and listen to your beautiful vocals! <3

Here are some general rules that may need to be edited as the contest happens:

1. Don't be a jerk. Putting yourself and your voice out there is a huge deal and I don't want anyone feeling shamed for having put their stuff out there :) If you are being a jerk, I will disqualify you. Ain't nobody got time for you to be a jerk.
2. This is a competition. As such, judging will need to happen to determine who moves on. Please respect the decisions made. It will be my job to do this fairly and as non-objectively as I can. Any cuts made will try to be done as gently and softly as possible. It is not my job to make people feel bad, but instead try to be positive and encouraging :)
3. Each round, a deadline will be posted. It is expected you submit on time, though I will be very generous on how much time I give (usually about 3-4 days). If not, I will be unable to judge your entry which will make me sad :( If you have extenuating circumstances, please reach out to me. I try to be accommodating.
4. Any recording you submit will be posted as part of a google doc with my judging thoughts/comments. I have tried doing private submissions in past contests run on other sites, but it just kind of creates a weird/negative environment to others who choose not to. You do not have to video record yourself singing, I certainly don't most of the time haha. Submitting your entry either via posting in this thread or to me via PM will equal you giving me permission to add it to a doc that will be revealed every round.
5. Please follow MafiaScum rules. I really don't want this to be a weird thing and I just want us all to have fun and make music together <3

Submission guidelines:

1. Must be recorded in the timeframe of submissions (this means no submissions from a week before the round begins, the day before the round begins, or even an hour before the round begins).
2. Must have your username somewhere on the recording either before starting to sing, or typed up in the description, or if you have the capability added via editing text at the bottom of your submission.
3. Must be on a format that others can listen. You can do unlisted if you don't want general public to hear it, but the link itself will be viewable/listenable to anyone on MS.
4. Must fit the genre of the round being submitted.
5. May not be a recording of someone who isn't you, unless it is part of a duet in which you are one of the two featured people.
6. You may use instruments if you so choose. That being said this is a singing competition and as such I will not be judging your ability to perform an instrument.

As far as how to submit, the initial round is FREE FOR ALL, meaning you can sing whatever you want. Here is a link to the google form:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... sp=sf_link

I am going to go ahead and open up auditions.

I hope to hear some of you soon <3

I would be fine with that :) I don't dare pretend to be a professional or anything of the sorts, but I'd be happy to give you a listen. I totally understand the shyness and anxiousness that comes with putting yourself out to the world.

Feel free to share or not share whatever you are comfortable with and just let me know that privately you aren't planning to actually particiate! <3

At the moment we need more contestants. Also I'm making sure this is a hugely positive experience because its hard to put yourself out there for something like this <3 So right now I'll be the only judge, though this may change if we get a lot of contestants and/or popularity.

Unfortunately, I won't be much help there. I'm reliant on programs such as Smule or Singsnap in order to do recordings. Aside from that I usually just pop on an instrumental on youtube and sing into the mic. I'm not really much for mixing audio or having tips to help on that front. Sorry :(

Hello everyone!

Thank you so much for entering. Fortunately, we did get enough submissions to go ahead and have Season 1 officially begin. I do need a night to listen/judge all of the entries and will post feedback/songs tomorrow, hopefully before I go to work in the morning.

I will tell you all that officially everyone has made it through to round 1! Congratulations, just for putting yourself out there in auditions that is all I needed. I will have results up by tomorrow morning along with your first theme.

Deadline will be Sunday so you have plenty of time to get something in :)

More details to come once I've finished my judging!

There might be a slight delay on this round. There was an issue with one of the submissions, so I've reached out to that individual. Mostly done judging at this point, just getting things formatted and reaching out to that individual.

Hello everyone! Amazing Auditions! Was super impressed all around and I think we are going to have a lot of fun this season.

So, to explain a few things about how this contest will work, I have already pre-determined the theme for the first round and anyone who auditioned this season is automatically able to participate in Round 1.
For this round only, two people will be eliminated during Round 1.
After this we will do single eliminations each week.

From this point on, the winner of each round will pick between a set number of categories for the theme that I will announce publicly after this round ends. If multiple people tie for highest score, I will RNG who decides the theme for the next round. This will continue until final 3, where I have a pre-determined theme for the semi-finals and again for the final 2.

The Theme for Round 1: ROCK

Please be sure to ask if you have questions about what is/isn't an acceptable entry or song for this. Rock is a pretty large genre and has many subgenres, so just send me a message if you have questions.

The acceptable form of a submission: Send me a PM with the link, the name of the song and the name of the original artist.

Deadline: Sunday at 4pm PDT.

Here are the Audition Results, please let me know if you have any questions <3

Viz, I liked yours and thought you sang well. I also understand being nervous and/or anxious about something like this, so I think you need to decide for yourself.

@Malk, I did not realize just how much reverb it was putting on my voice until you pointed it out. I'll take a look and see if I can figure out how to turn that off.

Hello everyone,

vizIIsto has withdrawn from the competition. We are sad to see him go, but are thrilled that he participated. I wanted to give you all kudos for just how awesome you all are being and how supportive you are being to one another. It warms my heart to see <3

Since viz has withdrawn, I am only eliminating one person this round. Let me know if you have any questions :)

Good luck and have fun! :D
Just a reminder this is largely meant to be a positive experience <3 I'm going to ask that we leave the judging to the judge. I do not want this to turn into a negative experience for anyone. It's a HUGE deal to participate in one of these and I was very deliberate in not bringing on other judges to this.

I believe I've been extremely kind to you entering this contest. Your singing was lovely, you have amazing taste in music and I was excited to hear how you would do in this contest. I am very sad you dropped out and I appreciate you taking time to invest into this. It's a very scary experience to put yourself out there to be judged and to be critiqued.

I do apologize if something I've said has made you upset with me, that was not my intention. My intention is to try to help foster a positive experience for those who are participating.

I've been in many contests over the years where the judges were harsh or critiqued the wrong aspects or just straight up were assholes to the contestants and it's a very...awful feeling and a very awful place to be in as someone who enters. I did not want to bring that negative energy or environment into MS Idol and just wanted it to be a fun, lighthearted contest where we showcase the great talent MS has and I think so far we've really begun to do that :)

It's not my intent to break down or degrade anyone who chose to put themselves out there to participate in this. It was also not my intent to shut you down or feel that you cannot be involved, I just would prefer if we don't make this a negative environment for those participating :(

You can lash out at me all you want, I can take it, but I would prefer it if we try to just foster positivity amongst a really negative time in the world right now. That's all I wanted this contest to be.

You can always make a soundcloud channel and see if the upload is better than on vocaroo.

I learned from my mistake last week and have judged all entries that have been given to me thus far! So that will mean I should have results up shortly after I get home from work. Probably by around 7pm PDT/10pm EDT. Next round will be 4 days, but the winner will have 24 hours to pick the next theme which I'll reveal the choices with results tomorrow. That should leave plenty of time to record throughout the week <3

I'll keep taking part to the best of my ability since I'm not so shy about showing to you guys, but don't be too shocked if I end up leaving due to missing a submission somewhere down the line.
Would a couple extra hours help with this? I do need a submission tonight but I could push the deadline back a few hours if it will help :)

Okay I have the results. THIS ROUND WAS AMAZING!!!!! You all ROCK bahaha I couldn't help myself. Anyways we do have a winner and we unfortunately do have to let someone go this round. The bar was set so high this round that I hope this person doesn't feel too deflated. I'm sorry that anyone has to be cut, but this is a competition. I love having you all here and I just want you to all know you are all amazing.

A guide for this going forward: Green = Safe, Red = Eliminated, Gold = Winner

This round was extremely close between two individuals and I think you will see when I post. Y'all had me breaking out the decimal points hard core haha.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

So congratulations to:
Mina!!!!

You are the winner of this round. What does that mean? Well it means that you now have until 4pm PDT/7pm EDT tomorrow to choose from one of the following themes for the round. You may post privately or publicly. If I am not around and you post publicly, everyone else can assume the deadline will be Saturday at 4pm PDT/7pm EDT for the entry with the round that the winner has chosen. All of these themes will be done at some point, so it should give you some ideas of what to expect in the up and coming rounds. The last time a theme will be chosen is for the top 5 round, as top 4 will be the last theme on this list, and top 3 & 2 will be rounds that have been predetermined. Without further ado, here are the choices!!!!

-Music in Animation
-Eurovision
-Gender Bender (Sing a song by someone of a gender you do not identify with, please see me if you have concerns/questions about this)
-70s
-Non-Animated Movie Hits
-Broadway
-Country

Good luck in Round 2 contestants!!!!

BROADWAY
Mina has chosen Broadway, Round 2 begins now and you have your theme.

Deadline is this Saturday at 4pm PDT/7pm EDT. As always, if you all finish early I will end the round early. If you need more time, please let me know and try to give me as much advance warning as possible <3

Thank you and good luck in Round 2!

There are many different musical and broadway stylings. I would challenge you to try something a little out of your comfort zone T-Bone. I believe there are musicals after anime as well and plenty of off broadway musicals that I think you can find something, plus you have until Saturday to find something.

You removing yourself unfortunately will not bring back an eliminated contestant. But do let me know what you decide either way.

Did we specify that this has to be on-stage musicals?

Not that I'm looking to go with a movie musical, but it may help people to have this clarified, and may aid T-Bone in his issues in finding one he is familiar enough with to be comfortable singing.
I did not specify, though the cool doc I shared did mention "movie musicals" as a thing, so I'm cool to allow it.

LOL I would make a horrible American Idol judge. "JUST SING WHATEVER YOU WANT LOVELIES"

Okay before I announce results. I just want to say that you ALL blew me away this round. Like wow there's just so much talent MS has that it fills my heart. I'm in awe and so inspired by all of you. Thank you all for putting your efforts and energies into participating in this contest.

Unfortunately, one person did not submit this round, and as such is being automatically eliminated. I do wish this person the best and think they are awesome and am very sad to see them go because I like to challenge myself and others to constantly be better on a daily basis, but unfortunately I think this round just got to everyone a bit.

That means everyone who submitted is moving on to Round 3!!! Congratulations to all.

The winner this round was very difficult to pick as there were many phenomenal entries and it came down to the slimmest of margins to decide who I thought won it. If I could give out co-winners this round, honestly? I probably would because two performances just blew me away. But I have to go with what I heard and what I know, so there was one performance I thought that was just...free of all flaws.

Congratulations to
toolenduso
on winning this round.

Here are the full results:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

So the winner now has 24 hours to choose the next theme for Round 3. A reminder the following theme options remain:

-Music in Animation
-Eurovision
-Gender Bender (Sing a song by someone of a gender you do not identify with, please see me if you have concerns/questions about this)
-70s
-Non-Animated Movie Hits
-Country

Good luck with your choice and feel free to post it publicly or privately.

I just want to re-iterate that honestly you all slayed this round and it was incredibly difficult to judge. Can't wait to see what you all come up with next. Tentatively the deadline for the next round will be Friday at 4pm PDT/7pm EDT.

I mean for me the intent of this contest is to hear your own voice solo.

I suppose I could accept a duet from two people who are participating in this contest at some point and then just judge you individually, I just feel in a duet you get fewer moments to stand out and let me fairly judge what you can actually do.

I'd probably prefer the alternative of doing multiple recorded layers such as what Haschel does since I know it's his voice on each layer.

Since I can't seem to link it to an actual part in any musical (just spliced clips in the video) I probably would not have allowed this.

And by that I mean, the specific "The Hamilton Polka" song has not been part of a playbill of any musical I can find. Like songs within it have but then...I would probably suggest to just do one of the songs in it since they have been individually featured in a musical, whereas "The Hamilton Polka" itself has not been specifically in a musical.

Okay the theme for this round is Gender Bender. Essentially, it's a free round but you must perform a song that was originally sung by someone of a gender you don't identify with. Please let me know if you have questions about this.

You have until Friday at 4pm PDT/7pm EDT to get me your entries via PM or discord!

Here's one I found, but in no way would I say it's like "YOU MUST DO THIS" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQUo7eimhWA

Feel free to run the song by me. I'm not...saying yes or no yet. Preferably it's a song that's fully done by someone of a gender you don't identify with as that is the theme of the round...but if it's something like beverly hills...I might allow it.

So I guess I have no choice but to give another 24 hour extension, but I really need y'all to like...please let me know if you need extensions or like give me some indication when you are submitting in the future please. More communication = Happy Malkon <3

Hello contestants. Wow. You all continually blow me away. This week was HARD to judge and the person who lost only lost by the slimmest of margins. I truly wish all of you could be winners and that I could crown each and every one of you. I think you all are wonderful and I hope these results do not deter you from continuing to just be the awesome singers that you all are. This was truly the hardest cut and choice I've had to make. I love you all so much and it breaks my heart to see anyone go at this stage, I truly mean it, but the talent is undeniable and I think you all would agree with me on this.

I also...for the first time thus far, cannot pick one winner. So this week, we have...CO WINNERS!!!

Without further ado:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Congratulations to
Haschel and Flubbernugget
on being the co winners this week. You two did an amazing job! So because we haven't had anything like this thus far, here is how this will work. I will post the available themes below. It will be both of your choice to COLLECTIVELY post a theme you both want. I want to see consent from both of you publicly on what you want. If I do not have a cohesive unanimous decision by 4pm PDT/7pm EDT tomorrow, I will RNG the remaining rounds to determine the theme.

Themes to pick from:

-Music in Animation
-Eurovision
-70s
-Non-Animated Movie Hits
-Country

According to wikipedia, western swing and bluegrass are subgenres of country, so I'd allow it.

Here is what I found in regards to that: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Country_music

Alright so it sounds like we are doing Country this round, is that correct Haschel and Flub?

Hello contestants.

I think this week was a bit of a struggle for some. That being said, I think you all did great! We do have a winner this week and we also have someone leaving this competition. I want to say you all are fabulous singers and the competition is just getting stiffer and stiffer. After this week, only 7 will remain from our original 12 and it's only going to get tougher. As always, if you have questions about these results please let me know. I'm truly sorry to the person going home this week. You are delightful and cutting people is part of the competition. Please do not give up singing <3

Without further ado here are the results:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

This means that
Kliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick
you are the winner this week and have the honor of picking the theme for the next round. Congratulations on winning, it was truly a great performance. You have 22 hours to decide what the next theme is. If I do not have a submission by 4pm PDT/7pm EDT tomorrow, I will RNG from the remaining theme choices:

-Music in Animation
-Eurovision
-70s
-Non-Animated Movie Hits

You may post publicly or send privately, though I do recommend publicly :)

Okay The next round's theme is Music in Animation. To clarify, this means you can perform any song from any animated movie or tv show. You like Disney? Do Disney (just not live action disney). You like Don Bluth movies like Land Before Time and Anastasia? Do Don Bluth. You a huge Dreamworks fan? Do Dreamworks. You want to do the theme song for Ducktales? Do the theme song from Ducktales. Is there a great anime song? DO ANIME WOOOO.

THAT BEING SAID, if the song appeared prior to being in a movie (example, All Star by Smash Mouth or Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen in Shrek) I will not be allowing those. Only songs that first debuted in an animated movie or tv show. When you submit, please let me know the singer and the movie/show it debuted in.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

4pm PDT/7pm EDT on Saturday is the deadline.

Hello Contestants,

Another round and another slew of amazing entries. This round showcased many songs from many different animated movies and tv shows across the-

Oh wait? I'm supposed to not lie on camera? Oh...alright then. Basically it was 3 The Little Mermaid songs and a couple others. So yeah, mostly from the same movie, but there were a couple of out of the box choices this round. To the person who is eliminated, you performed admirably and I hope you remember the great moments you have had in this competition and that you are an amazing singer. This competition is just stiff and each week I have to make a hard cut from this point forward. Unfortunately, this is where the cards fell this time.

Without further ado, here are the results:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Congratulations to
Bellaphantabulous <3
you were the highest scoring contestant this round. This means you now have 24 hours to choose the next theme.

Here are the categories left to pick between. Just an fyi, next round will be the final round that the winner will pick the theme as everything else will be predetermined from that point on.

-Eurovision
-70s
-Non-Animated Movie Hits

Bellaphant has chosen 70s. Here is how this is going to work. You will perform a song that was RELEASED in the 70s. If it was recorded in 69 but not released until January of 70, that is fine. However, I will not accept songs RECORDED in the 70s, but released in the 80s. Key here is the release date. If you have questions about this, I usually will refer to wikipedia for most entries.

The other thing that I will accept is covers of 70s songs so long as the original song was RELEASED in the 70s.

Deadline for this round will be 4pm PDT/7pm EDT this coming Saturday! Good luck :)

I will let you all know that one person did not submit/removed themselves from this contest. So everyone who submitted is moving on, and the only judging I will be doing is to determine who will pick the final 2 themes.

Okay I have results.

70s was a very diverse time, and it showed in a diverse set of song choices from our contestants. Obviously we all learned that someone did not submit this round and as a result, they are gone. I want to tell this person that I hope everything goes well and that you were a ball of sunshine in this contest. I hope you keep up your joy and love of singing and that you continue to follow your heart and passions as you brought a lot to this contest and will be missed by all.

As for the rest of you...

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Congratulations
Mina!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you are the winner of the round! You also have won the final prize of being able to have the final decision on which theme comes next. From this point on, all themes have been pre-determined.

In addition, I want to let everyone know that there will be a twist happening during the final 3 and final 2 rounds that will be revealed next round and a fundamental change to how everything has gone in this contest thus far.

This round, however (and final 4) will proceed as normal. To the winner: Please determine which theme is next, and ultimately also which theme will be in the f4 round. It's a huge choice and it could mean the difference between making the final 3 and falling short of the prize:

-Eurovision
-Non-Animated Movie Hits

You have until tomorrow at 6pm PDT/9pm EDT (a little late, I know) to choose the theme. As always if you choose sooner than the deadline, please post publicly so that we can move on with the contest <3

Okay the theme for this round is Eurovision! You can pick any song that has been part of the Eurovision Song Contest over it's massive almost 70 years of running! There is a lot of material to choose from and a lot of interesting genres and concepts to pick from.

As a note, I will allow songs from the Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga movie that released on netflix earlier this year. In addition, even though the Song Contest was canceled for 2020, there were songs that were written for that contest. I will allow those as well so long as I can verify it was an entry for the song contest this year.

Aside from that...I think this round is pretty cut and dry and doesn't need a lot of explaining. Please let me know if you have questions.

In addition, this means that final 4 will be Non-Animated Movie Hits. I will explain this theme more next round after results, but I would start thinking about this round and try to have some idea of what you might do. Long story short, it will function very similar to the animated song hits round I did prior...just to Non-Animated Movie Hits. I will take questions on this genre after that round begins.

I will also be revealing how Rounds 3 and 2 & what those themes will be as they were pre-determined pre-season.

Until that point, good luck with one of my personal favorite themes, Eurovision!

Hello everyone,

As always these rounds are getting crazier and the competition is just getting more intense week to week. To the person eliminated this week, you are a wonderful singer and I think almost any other round this would not be the result, but we are here and it's unfortunate. This does not mean you aren't a good singer and you have given us so much throughout this competition. Thank you for doing this week to week and I'm sorry that this week happens to be your week. You are great and I don't want this to feel like it diminishes how good you really are.

With that in mind here are your results for the round:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Congratulations to
Haschel Cedricson!!!!!
for winning the round.

Now...I did promise to reveal a twist that will happen after this round, but I didn't...say how I was going to reveal it ;)

The prize for the winner this round, is me REVEALING to them and them alone what the twist for Rounds 9 & 10 will be. You will all be publicly informed at the end of Round 8 (current Round) results what the twist is. I will leave it up to the winner this week on whether they share with some or all of you.

A reminder that the theme this round is Non-Animated Movie Hits. Here are some more details:

1. This round is treated very similarly to the Animated Song round. Only songs that originally debuted in movies will count.
2. Do not do any songs from Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga as that was allowed last round...yes I know semantics, this is a rule I'm putting up.
3. Songs that were not originally in a movie, I am not allowing.

My best example of this would be in Dreamgirls, "And I am Telling You I'm Not Going" was not originally done for the movie, however "Listen" was. So I would accept "Listen", but not "And I am Telling You...".

Please let me know if you have any questions, deadline is next Sunday at 4pm PDT/7pm EDT.

Oh and there will be a prize for the winner of Round 8 that has to do with the theme in Round 9, so there is still incentive to want to "win the round". Just fyi.

Would you mind expanding on this example more? I am not familiar with dreamgirls, and a quick wikipedia skim shows both songs were in the broadway musical and the movie
""Listen" is a song recorded by American singer Beyoncé. The song was written by Beyoncé, Henry Krieger, Scott Cutler, and Anne Preven, and produced by The Underdogs, Matt Sullivan and Randy Spendlove for the 2006 musical film Dreamgirls"

""And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" (also known in short as just "And I Am Telling You") is a torch song from the Broadway musical Dreamgirls"

Key word in these is that one was written "for the musical film" and the other "from the broadway musical."

Does that clear this up?

In post 558, Mina wrote:Guys, it doesn't have to be a movie musical. For example, anything that was a Best Original Song nominee at the Oscars qualifies.
This is a good example. Anything that falls under “original song” for a movie works. Best example of this off the top of my head is that Norah Jones song from the movie Ted.

There are a lot of choices.

I just wanted to provide the dreamgirls example as something to show more specifically what I am looking for and is allowable vs isn’t allowable.

In post 561, Haschel Cedricson wrote:What about a song that was written for a movie but then the studio decided they wanted a different artist to sing it instead and then that second artist released her recording a month before the movie came out and then the first artist who was supposed to be in the movie but wasn't released her version of the song the same day as the second artist?
I don’t really have time to sift through this hypothetical. If you have a song you are considering but aren’t sure about and don’t feel like publicly saying it, just message me privately and I’ll give you a specific example.

Okay everyone I have results.

Before I post them, I just want to say that THIS WAS FAR AND BY FAR THE BEST ROUND IN THIS COMPETITION. You all brought it this week, you all shone brightly as the stars you are and you should all be very freaking proud of yourselves. Just amazing. This was an IN-CRE-DI-BLE week. To the person who is eliminated, I'm so sorry. This was far and by far the toughest cut of the game and just...I don't have words. I honestly think all 4 of you hit the mark and this was so tough. Ugh I just...god this choice was impossible.

Without further ado...the results:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Congratulations to
toolenduso!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
on winning the round. You may notice that
everyone is gold or green this week. Which means this round was too close for me to make a call on who to cut. As a result I've made the decision to move all four of you onto the next round. HOWEVER, this means next round that TWO people will be cut instead of one so we stay on track for the finale.

So first off, I did promise last week that the prize for the winner was knowledge of the twist for this round in advance. However, that round is now and I will introduce the twist: My score will only count for half of your aggregate score. The other half will come from AUDIENCE VOTING. I will wait until I have entries in for this competition and then create a poll once they are in for MS users to have 48 hours to vote. The top scorer will get 10 points. The second place scorer will get 9.5 points. The third place will get 9.0 points. The fourth place will get 8.5 points. That, in combination with my score for that round will give you a total out of 20 points. The top two scorers next round will be our two finalists and will duke it out for the title of MS Idol.

I also did promise a prize for the person who got first this week, and will now reveal the theme and what that prize is.

The theme this week is....Judge's Choice!

In the next 24 hours. I will be sending you 3 songs to choose from. You must perform one of those 3 songs. I don't care if it's a cover of that song, or a different instrumental, or what have you, but I do expect you to perform one of those songs. I will be doing my absolute best to try and pick you songs that I believe will be good for you.

You then will have 24 hours to review the songs and get back to me. If after that 24 hours you wish it, you will give me feed back on my choices and if you are not satisfied, I will send you a final song. You will then have a week from that time to record one of those songs. So to recap, you have 48 hours for song choices/selections/rechoice and then a week to record.

The prize for the winner of this round, is that I will be giving them an additional song on the onset. This means they will have 4 songs to choose from and if after 24 hours they are not satisfied with their choices, an additional song will be given at that time.

Please bear with me as I review the songs you've done so far, dig through my repertoire and choose songs individually selected for each of you :)

Congratulations to our semi-finalists and I cannot wait to see how this goes.

Okay I believe I have come up with a decent list of songs for you all. I will be sending them to you with explanations. It will be your job by Tuesday at 4pm to have listened to them, thought about it, and if you aren't good with the choices I've given you, feel free to write back to me what you would prefer I look for in a final song I pick. If you are good with the choices I gave you, congrats you don't have to wait for me to pick another song!

The next deadline is going to be a week from this Wednesday so people have time to sample every thing and we have time to sort everything out :)

Just a reminder today is the last day to reach out to me if you wish to have 2 replacement songs if the first 3 (or 4 toolenduso) aren't working for ya :)

Please be very detailed as to what you think you would prefer if this is the case so I have some parameters to help you in picking those replacements.

Hello everyone.

Given recent events in the state of Oregon where I am from, I may need to evacuate. As a result, I'm going to go ahead and postpone this round. I'll let you all know when/if the situation lets up.

I'm sorry. I gotta focus on me and my family first.

If any of you want to spend time to make your entries better, go for it. I don't know when this will pick up.

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the delay and thank you for bearing with us West Coasters while we go through some shit.

Long story short, I am completely out of the evac zone entirely at this point as is the rest of my family.

As such, I feel confident re-opening this back up. I'm going to give everyone until next Wednesday at 4pm PDT/7pm EDT to provide their submissions. If you already previously submitted, you don't need to do anything, though you are welcome to re-submit if you decide you like another take prior to the deadline :)

Thank you for your patience.

Hello Contestants and for the first time Hello Audience!!!

We have an exciting line up for the first ever MS Idol voting round! Sadly, one contestant has opted not to submit and therefore has chosen to withdraw from the contest. Thank you for participating, you were a delight to have and it is sad to see you go. You genuinely brought a smile to my face every single time.

As a result of this, 3 contestants are now vying for your vote. The way this round works is that I have already given out 3 scores, a 10, a 9.7 and a 9.6. The Audience will then cast votes for who they want to see go to the finale. The person with the top most amount of votes will receive 10 points, the second most will receive 9.5 points, and the contestant with the least votes will receive a 9.

At the end of this, I will total up the two scores and the 2 contestants with the highest total score will move onto the finale.

First off let's reveal who left the competition and who is competing for your votes:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

And now let's get to how to vote. Here are rules and submission guidelines:

1. You cannot be a current contestant in MS Idol. (aka none of the 3 semi-finalists)
2. You cannot be an alternate account. (just please don't make me deal with that I'm one person)
3. You cannot vote more than once.
4. In order to vote, PM me via mafiascum to obtain YOUR UNIQUE CODE.
5. Once you have YOUR UNIQUE CODE, you can fill out the following google doc: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... sp=sf_link
6. It would be best if you didn't announce who you voted for...for suspense! But I ultimately cannot stop you. Please vote for the contestant you believe should be in the finale based on your own voting criteria.
7. You have 72 hours as of this post in order to get your votes in.
8. Once votes are in, I will tally them up and do one final set of vetting before I announce the results.

Good luck to our 3 contestants, you are all very great singers!!!!!!!

Hello everyone! I do have results and we have two finalists.

Thank you to everyone who voted! Very much appreciated. I am about to unveil our finalists. Reminder, the top vote getting via audience gets a 10, the 2nd place vote gets a 9.5, and the 3rd highest vote getter gets a 9. Previously I announced I gave out a 10, a 9.7, and a 9.6 to the contestants. The scores will be added up together to give a congregate score to determine the top two who advance.

First off, I'm going to start off with toolenduso.

The score I gave toolenduso was a...

10

The audience gave a score of...

1st = 10

This means that
With a perfect score of 20, toolenduso you are the first finalist moving on!!!

Second up, I will move onto Flubbernugget.

The Audience gave him a score of...

2nd = 9.5

and that means
I'm going to withhold my score for now...

Finally, Mina the audience gave you a score of...

2nd = 9.5

I'm going to withhold my score for the moment.

and that means
Due to a tie with Mina and Flubbernugget for 2nd, it will all come down to my score to determine who our 2nd finalist was.

By a difference of
.1
the second finalist who will be competing for the title of MS Idol is none other than...

Mina with a score of 9.7!!!! 9.5 + 9.7 = 19.2

This means that...

Flubbernugget with a score of 9.6, you will be taking the 2nd runner up this game. 9.5 + 9.6 = 19.1

Thank you to all three of our semi-finalists you were all terrific and I wish all three of you could move to our finale. To the person who was eliminated, you are INCREDIBLE and I am so happy you decided to do this competition. Thank you thank you. I really hope you gained some knowledge and confidence from this and I'm so thrilled that you participated. My hat is off to you and I hope you continue to follow your singing path because you truly have a special voice that never failed to put a smile on my face. CONGRATULATIONS 3rd place is not an easy feat in this contest and y'all made my job hard.

Okay. With that being said I will now release results in their entirety:

Alright. It all comes down to this:
Toolenduso vs Mina for the title of MS Idol. My scoring and judging no longer matter in this contest and this will STRICTLY be an audience vote who decides it, winner takes the crown. I also will be casting a vote though, so I will be no different than anyone else in the audience.

With that being said the final theme for MS Idol is...Past & Present!

For this, you will be submitting 2 recordings. The first is from the Past. You will pick one song you performed in any round of this contest, EXCEPT LAST ROUND, and re-record it. You can take this to choose a song you feel you could have done better, or a song that you feel an audience will appreciate. You can use whatever criteria you personally want in choosing the song you re-record. Again this can be any song you did in rounds 1-8, but it has to be re done, you can not just re submit the same recording.

The second part is from the Present. For this, you have free range to do any song that you have not performed prior...and there's no limit. Do remember that you have to convince an audience to vote for you, so keep that in mind when picking your 2nd song.

I will not be providing any judging feedback this round, just be sure to take a look at everything I've given you thus far when making your selection for the finale.

If you have any questions, let me know, otherwise let the theme of Past & Present help guide you to your Future title of MS Idol ;)

Deadline is Sunday, October 10th, 2020 at 4pm PDT/7pm EDT. I would NOT recommend procrastinating on this one as it's a mix of time management and being smart with selection. If both of you finish early, I will end the round early. So keep that in mind. Please do let me know if you need an extension, but use it sparingly if you can since there are only two of you left.

May the best Mish Masher win!!! <3

To clarify, the audition song counts as part of the Past part of this theme.

Anything prior to Round 9 that you have done for this comp is fair game.

I once wrote a song for finalists to sing in an old contest I was in like a decade ago :D

Luckily, the contestants are not being subjected to me writing them a single to sing :D

Both contestants have submitted. I'm going to compile everything and try to get the poll up within the next hour or two. Ideally we will have 48 hours of voting and then the winner reveal on Monday (so I can selfishly get it done while I have the 3 day weekend on my side.)

WELCOME EVERYONE TO THE FIRST MS IDOL FINALE!!!! WOW what a season it's been and what such talented singers we have. When I started this contest, I wanted everyone to show off and share their own talents just to see what sorts of singing stars we had here at MS, and over the course of this season, I've been completely blown away round after round. You are all AMAZING singers and it's been so fun discovering hidden MS talents. I'm so proud of each and every one of you and think that you are all just tops.

Two singers have battled it out over the duration of this contest, Toolenduso and Mina, and both have qualified for the finals. They have spent two weeks preparing two songs to perform for you, the audience, to vote for to win.

Thank you all for having gone on this experimental contest I wanted to try out. It's gone so much better than I could have ever hoped for and I adore you all.

Before we get to the final vote, I want to remind everyone of the journey our contestants have had thus far:

Auditions (Free For All): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
Round 1 (Rock): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
Round 2 (Musicals): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
Round 3 (Genderbend): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
Round 4 (Country): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
Round 5 (Music in Animation): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
Round 6 (70s): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
Round 7 (Eurovision): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
Round 8 (Non-Animated Movie Hits): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0
Round 9 (Judge's Choice: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0

Toolenduso and Mina were asked to perform within the theme of "Past and Present", one song they performed prior to Round 9, and one song of their choosing that they have not performed.

Here are their entries:

Mina-
"Past" Magic Man by Heart: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JS4Qqk ... sp=sharing
"Present" Round Midnight by Thelonius Monk: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZU8cX8 ... sp=sharing

Toolenduso-
"Past" You'll Be Back from Hamilton: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1232HB5 ... 8u2Tx/view
"Present" Thinkin Bout You by Frank Ocean: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1avmKjM ... sDs-d/view

This is it folks. It all comes down to a simple audience vote. I will participate as a member of the audience just like anyone else. Here are voting Rules:

1. You vote for the person you believe performed the best.
2. Although On the doc I have two voting options for each finalist...I will accept a vote for either as both are associated with the same person. EG if someone votes for Magic Man and someone else votes for Round Midnight, Mina would get 1 vote from each for a total of 2. It does not matter which of the two song choices you pick, the person's name who is associated with the option is the one who gets the vote.
3. You have 48 hours from the time of this post to vote. If you voted last round, feel free to use your unique ID code I PM'ed you again. If you didn't vote last round, PLEASE PM ME FOR YOUR UNIQUE CODE SO THAT YOU CAN VOTE THIS IS REQUIRED.
4. The only people who cannot vote are Mina and toolenduso, everyone else, have at it as long as I've given you a code.
5. The person with the most votes will become our first MS idol contestant!

Okay this is it folks, no more critiques or comments from me. You know the rules (and so do IIIIIIIIII), so get on out there and vote for the contestant you believe should be the first ever winner of MS Idol!!!

Voting Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... g/viewform

Best of luck to both finalists, you are both terrific!

Hello everyone! I have the results.

So long story short, I could just...tell you who the winner is, or I could do survivor style vote reading.

Because I do love a good bit of drama, I'm going to do the latter to show you the winner. The show will begin in approximately five minutes once I've thrown up the advertisement that this is starting!

With a total of 4 votes...the first ever MS Idol winner...and the winner of an imaginary cash prize that definitely does not exist...and some bragging rights maybe.

Is....

Not any of our lovely participants who didn't make the f2. Please give a warm round of applause to everyone who participated this season, you were all just delightful and I appreciate all of you for participating. And-

Oh what's that?

My producer is telling me to just get on with it.

In a vote of...4-3.

The winner...

IS....

MINA CONGRATULATIONS OMG YOU DID IT!!!!!!!!!!

And that's a wrap on season 1. Thank you again to everyone who participated, voted, were part of this experimental process. I have no current plans to do a season 2 anytime soon, but perhaps early next year if I get myself together we can discuss it.

I hope you all had fun and I hope you all learned something from this. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who made this such an incredible freshman entry into what I hope to become a series in the future.

You are all lovely. Have a wonderful evening, and congrats again to our winner and runner-up, you were both phenomenal contestants!!!!!!!!

See you all for season 2 hopefully <3
