yet, please do so. They're important, breaking them often ruins games, and nearly every game here includes all the site rules, including this one.
If you've played here before, you'll have a good idea of how games here normally work, and this one is much the same. If you want a refresher, or want to know the full details of all the rules I use, see
for a big long list of all the rules (site rules, Mafia mechanics, and my own rules) with explanations of the reasoning behind them.
And a quick reminder of the five most commonly broken rules, just so that there's no excuse for not being aware of them:
A1.
Players are expected to be active within the game.
A2.
Do not discuss Mafia games outside their game threads until they have finished.
A3.
Do not discuss the spelling, timestamps, etc. of any non-public communication.
A4.
Do not publicly discuss potential replacements; in particular, do not post in-thread if you are replacing out, and do not try to encourage other players to replace out.
: Days are initially 96 hours, but every player has a 1-shot deadline extension (see below); 48 hour nights
Prod timers
: 32+48, 32+36, 32+24, 32+24, 32+replaced
Voting method
: Plurality
Daytalk
: The Mafia's factional communication topic has daytalk available.
Action limits
: Irrelevant in this setup
Unusual rules
:
This game uses Callforjudgement's Micro Deadlines; Day deadlines start out at 96 hours long, but can be extended. Each player has a 1-shot deadline extender, that will extend the deadline by between 32 and 64 hours (depending on how many times the user has been prodded). You can use this by posting
Extend deadline
(or similar) bolded in the game thread. See the wiki link if you need exact details on how this mechanic works.
The prod timer is much faster than usual this game, as I've found that this is one of the best ways of keeping Micros moving. You should try to avoid being prodded if you can, but shouldn't feel too bad about it if you end up being prodded once or twice; I'll only replace a player for activity if they're prodded five times, prodded three times in the same Day, or fail to respond to a prod in time. Sometimes people get busy, or can't post at a weekend, or whatever, and that's OK as long as it doesn't happen too much. Note that you must respond to a prod with a substantive post; prod-dodges will be ignored.
This game uses the Nomination Mafia 8p setup; the Mafia have no night kill, but will be able to restrict the town's choice of players to vote for on even-numbered Days (to a choice of three players chosen by the Mafia). The Mafia may not make a choice that immediately wins them the game.
Sorry for the delay to the game start; I'm still waiting for at least two players to pick up their role PMs. (The game filled at an unfortunate time of day / the week.)
I'm going to be V/LA this weekend, but will still have the chance to pop in now and again to make a few posts (such as this one), so the game isn't likely to be delayed much.
Replacements do not cause an automatic deadline extension. The 1-shot extension of the slot being replaced will be refreshed, allowing the player who replaces in to extend the deadline if they wish. The deadline will not be paused while waiting for a replacement (although, of course, 1-shot deadline extensions can still be used during this time).
Some background: Nomination Mafia 7p is fairly popular, but has proven to be scumsided. We've been discussing whether something like this should be part of the Open rotation going forwards.
As a consequence, this was a test run of the setup featuring an eighth player, in order to try to redress the balance somewhat (Hoopla also thought the odd/even worked better this way round, with nominations on days with an odd number of players).
Do people have any feedback regarding the setup? Did it feel balanced? Was it fun to play? If the setup were part of the Open rotation, would you expect the games to fill?
Also, congratulations to redcardinal for pulling out the game to a victory! I don't think I'd ever seen scum win a 6:1 ending when they had no nightkill available before. (It was a very nice D1 bus, which both the scum deserve credit for, and was a good way to recover from being the two main scumreads early.)
