The final results of Hand 5 have been restored and are known to be correct. The bets still need to be reconstructed.

Hand 5 is now believed to correctly represent all bots' hands and bets as of the end of that hand. If there are any mod errors, I will correct them tomorrow.

The commentary for round 5 that had been overwritten has been rewritten. It is not an exact restoration, but it is similar wording to what I remember writing before.

HAND 7/30

It is Zen Count/Basic to bet first. It makes a bet of $50,000, followed by ND bot with its usual bet of $5,000. R2-D21 wagers $48,000, Apple Siri wagers $57,000, and Minimalist Bot wagers $25,000.

Hand 7 is lucky for two of our bots, who both have blackjack and this time don't have to worry about the dealer having a surprise blackjack itself. Thus, R2-D21 is the last to act that the dealer is worried about. It must first take an action from Zen, which elects to stand on its soft 19. ND bot elects to hit its soft 16 and gets a six for its efforts, putting it at a hard 12, but it decides it is content with that and stands. R2-D21 also opts to stand on its 14.

The dealer flips over its hole card.

That hole card comes up a jack, on which it hits and gets a six, ending it at 18. For two of our bots, seven was lucky, while for another two, it was unlucky. The fifth bot doesn't believe in such silly superstitions about the number 7, but is happy with its win.

Minimalist Bot wins $37,500.
Zen Count/Basic wins $50,000.

ND bot loses $5,000.
R2-D21 loses $48,000.

Apple Siri wins $85,500.

All the bots hang onto their places in the rankings. Minimalist Bot rises to $717,000, Apple Siri to $969,500, and Zen Count/Basic to $1,325,000. Three hands remain before the first elimination. Which four will survive?

HAND 8/30

First to bet is ND bot, which sticks with its betting strategy of always betting $5,000. R2-D21, knowing it has to recover as fast as it can to avoid elimination and likely hope that other bots suffer some big losses, bets $34,000. Apple Siri bets $37,000, Minimalist Bot bets $25,000, and Zen Count/Basic repeats its bet of $50,000.

ND is content with its hard 14 versus the dealer's upcard of 5 and stands. Siri hits and draws a jack, after which it stands on 15. Minimalist opts not to double and instead merely hits, drawing a 3 and standing on 14. Zen stands pat on 17, and ND doubles its 11, drawing an 8 and ending its hand on a 19.

All eyes turn to the dealer.

In the hole, it had a queen. Everyone knew the dealer would have to hit, and so it does... getting a king in the process, busting on 25. Minimalist starts kicking itself for not doubling, but perhaps that's why it's called Minimalist Bot. At least everyone wins money :P

Minimalist Bot wins $25,000.
Zen Count/Basic wins $50,000.
ND bot wins $5,000.
R2-D21 wins $34,000.
Apple Siri wins $37,000.

Again, all bots remain where they are in the rankings. R2-D21 goes up to $147,000, Minimalist Bot to $742,000, Apple Siri to $1,006,500, ND bot to $1,010,000, and Zen Count/Basic to $1,375,000. Only $3,500 separates the silver from the bronze as Siri threatens to overtake ND. Will that happen in hand 9?

Minimalist and ND's final hand totals were correct in the commentary but wrong in the table (I copy-pasted and forgot to update them); this has now been corrected.

HAND 9/30

R2-D21 is first to bet in this hand that it much needs to win and puts up $44,000. Apple Siri follows with a bet of $30,000, Minimalist follows with its usual $25,000 bet, Zen Count/Basic bets $80,000, and ND bot continues its flat bet of $5,000.

R2-D21 is happy with its 20 and stands. Apple Siri, on the other hand, puts up another $30,000 to split its sixes. The first six gets paired up with a four, prompting it to put in yet another $30,000 to double down, with a jack added to make a good hand of 20. Siri's second six from before the split gets mated with a three and risks yet another $30,000 to double it as well. It gets only a five added to it, which means Siri must be content with a 14 and hope the dealer busts to profit—its worst nightmare is a dealer 21. Minimalist Bot's bug resurfaces, hitting its 20 and busting as it draws a king. Zen Count/Basic is happy with its 13 and stands.

It finally comes to the dealer.

The hole card comes up a ten for a hard 15, prompting the dealer to hit. The next card off the top of the deck is a deuce, allowing the dealer to stand on 17.

Minimalist Bot loses $25,000.
Zen Count/Basic loses $80,000.

ND bot wins $5,000.
R2-D21 wins $44,000.

Apple Siri pushes.

That gives R2-D21 $191,000 to work with as it tries to avoid being eliminated next hand. Minimalist Bot falls to $717,000, Apple Siri remains at $1,006,500, ND bot keeps relatively steady at $1,010,000, and Zen Count/Basic, despite its setback, is still hanging on to the lead with $1,295,000. Hand 10 will determine which of these bots will be the first to go home, and the bookies at Kilobit Casino think it'll be R2-D21. Can he avoid that fate?

HAND 10/30 — FIRST ELIMINATION

Apple Siri is first to bet in this very important hand and stakes $55,000. Minimalist Bot, realizing the importance of this hand, decides that this hand is worth $215,000 to it. Zen Count/Basic bets $50,000, ND bot bets $5,000, and R2-D21, probably on slam tilt by this point and certainly having realized he now has to go big or go home, bets everything.

The ace up is very scary for R2-D21: being out of money, it cannot afford to bet insurance, and if the dealer has a blackjack, it is gone. The dealer asks everyone else if they'd like insurance, and Minimalist is the only taker.

Spoiler: The dealer inserts its hand into the card reader...
...and turns out not to have a blackjack, so Minimalist Bot's insurance bet loses and R2-D21 still has a chance, albeit a slim one.

Apple Siri is content with its 19 and stands, whereas Minimalist Bot's bug where it hits on 20 predictably gets it stuck with another card—this time around a six, putting it over at 26 and making it a serious underdog to survive hand 18. Zen Count/Basic is thinking about elimination only in terms of eliminating its competition and ultimately hits its 12 three times. The first hit gets it an ace, the second a deuce... and the third a jack, busting it on 25. ND bot hits and draws a deuce, then hits again and draws a jack, busting it on 24. R2-D21 hits its 13 and hopes for a low card, but gets a queen instead, who hammers the final nail in its coffin.

The dealer flips over its hole card.

Out of that hole pops a nine, which takes Apple Siri's money as the first elimination hand ended up being hell to every single one of these bots.

Minimalist Bot loses $430,000.
Zen Count/Basic loses $50,000.
ND bot loses $5,000.
R2-D21 loses $191,000.
Apple Siri loses $55,000.

R2-D21, as the poorest bot after this elimination with absolutely nothing, tentatively exits the tournament in fifth as the four other bots duel to have their creators win for their engineering colleges.

You now have (expired on 2020-10-18 11:21:44) to appeal the play of the cards up to this point. Any corrections that turn out to be necessary reset the countdown timer to 24 hours. Once 24 hours have gone by with no objections to the results, they are final.

It was planned to allow bot editing in the breaks after an elimination, but for the final version I decided to have bot programs locked in for the entire game. Sorry. If there's demand, I may allow it next time.

Will consider for next time. If all players agree, then I'll allow it for this game in that situation only.

The appeal timer has now expired with no objections to the game status. Aronis, I am sorry, but your bot, R2-D21, has officially been eliminated.

Hand 11 with the remaining four bots soon :)

HAND 11/30

Four bots remain. Minimalist Bot returns to being the first to act and bets $25,000. Zen Count/Basic, perhaps fearing more bad beats coming, drops its bet down to $20,000. ND bot goes for the tried-and-true $5,000 flat-bet, whereas Apple Siri makes a very bold bet of $103,000.

But was that big bet from Siri a good idea? The bots worry again as a queen comes up as the upcard, which means dealer must check for a blackjack and will not be asking for insurance like when the ace was the upcard. The bots have been able to dodge dealer blackjacks so far, but will they again?

Spoiler: The dealer inserts its hand into the card reader...
...which says it does not have a blackjack and the hand can go on.

Minimalist Bot's bug leads to a predictable hit on 20 and bust, in this case on 30. Zen Count/Basic opts for a hit... and is kinda glad Minimalist took the bad card for him, as next out of the shoe after the jack is a four, giving it a hard 17 and prompting a stand call.

The dealer flips over its hole card...

It comes up a seven for a hard 17, so it does not hit. We were kinda wondering where all the sevens in the deck went, though xD

Minimalist Bot loses $25,000.

Zen Count/Basic pushes.

ND bot wins $5,000.
Apple Siri wins $103,000.

Minimalist Bot falls to $362,000, ND bot goes up to $1,010,000, Apple Siri takes second with $1,054,500, and Zen Count/Basic remains at $1,245,000. Hand 12 soon :)

HAND 12/30

Zen Count/Basic, first to bet, bets the minimum of $5,000, as does ND bot. Apple Siri bets $38,000, whereas Minimalist Bot bets its usual $25,000.

Quite a number of tens have been coming out of the shoe lately, and once again a ten-point card shows up as the dealer's upcard, this time a king. A very ominously familiar situation, as two bots have good hands to double with.

Spoiler: The dealer inserts its hand into the card reader...
...which once again announces the lack of a dealer blackjack. Zen Count/Basic takes the opportunity given to double, and a good double it turns out to be—a king makes its 11 a 21. ND bot chooses to hit instead, but it also gets a 21 as it draws an ace from the shoe. Apple Siri is happy with its 19, whereas the known bug in Minimalist Bot that Ircher wishes he could repair resurfaces again, drawing a king and busting it on 30 once again.

The dealer flips over its hole card.

It shows a nine for 19 and stands. If only that bug of Minimalist's could be fixed!

Minimalist Bot loses $25,000.

Zen Count/Basic wins $10,000.
ND bot wins $5,000.

Apple Siri pushes.

While the bots collectively have a net loss thanks to the bug, the plurality of them won, as the middle two bots see small paydays. Minimalist Bot has dropped down to $337,000, ND bot goes up to $1,015,000, Apple Siri still has $1,054,500, and Zen Count/Basic extends its lead slightly with $1,250,000 in its stack. Next is 13, lucky for some... will it be any of these bots?

Haven't forgotten about this, but it will likely be on Tuesday evening CT. Got another game off-site to set up on Monday.

HAND 13/30

ND bot starts off the betting in what some say is a superstitious hand and puts in its usual $5,000. Apple Siri bets $20,000, Minimalist Bot bets $25,000, and Zen Count/Basic bets $5,000 again.

ND bot is content with its 19, as is Siri with its hard 15. Minimalist, unusually, chooses to hit its hard 17, and a seven out of the shoe sends it over with a 24. Zen hits its eight, also drawing a seven to get a 15, then decides it's fine right there.

The dealer flips its hole card.

The dealer flips over a queen to show a 14, then hits his hand for an eight, busting on 22.

Minimalist Bot loses $25,000.

Zen Count/Basic wins $5,000.
ND bot wins $5,000.
Apple Siri wins $20,000.

Hand 13 was lucky for most bots, though it was unlucky for the one with the biggest change in score, Minimalist Bot, who is now down to only $312,000. ND bot goes up to $1,020,000, Apple Siri goes up to $1,074,500, and Zen Count/Basic goes up to $1,255,000. Hand 14 soon :)
