n

In post 0, Plotinus wrote: Your sequence shouldn't have more than 2 working parts, for example "the number is
prime
mod 7
" has two parts and is allowed. The
digit sum
of
x2
is
less than 5
and
x3
ends in a prime number
has four parts and is not allowed.
It might also not abide by this rule?

6n-1
prime
first digit is (1/2/3/5).

If I understand this rule correctly, that's three parts - one more than allowed for a bingo.

What do you mean by "add up to a multiple of 7?" I'd thought you meant "add the digits together; the result is a multiple of 7", but 1+6+5 = 12, which isn't a multiple of 7 (and 165 doesn't have a 7 in it), so I must be misinterpreting you.

I can answer that one.
In post 1402, Plotinus wrote:Sirius' leftmostcard that fits into a sequence is 400 and the topmost sequence (starting from his team's sequences) that it fits into is triple digit numbers
When Sirius played the 400 to the triple-digit sequence, he stole the sequence from you. Playing a number to someone else's sequence steals it.

I tried generating some hands; in twelve tries, I came up with two hands that fit the pattern "non-prime numbers that do not contain <three specific digits>."
8,47 (stop, prime)
36,81,91 (stop, prime)
2 (stop, prime)
11 (stop, prime)
1, 3 (stop, prime)
8, 25, 28, 61 (stop, prime)
2 (stop, prime)
4, 17 (stop, prime)
1, 2 (stop, prime)
1, 15, 26, 35, 40, 44, 54 (no primes, no 7s/8s/9s)
7 (stop, prime)
10, 15, 18, 22, 64, 66, 484 (no primes, no 3s/7s/9s)

Plotinus's call, of course, but I'd recommend a back-up play just in case.

and 91 isn't prime; I'm an idiot. 7*13.

36, 81, 91, 100, 165, 289, 324. Still doesn't fit the pattern (no primes, but not enough missing digits).

I'd object to that, because it would imply that I'd have to understand what's going on too, and my understanding of the meta-rule isn't as firm as I'd like.

Like, take your bingo. Numbers containing a 1. I can turn that into a meta-rule: "Numbers containing a specific single digit." But I'm not sure where exactly the dividing line is between "cases where there's a meta-rule" and "cases where there isn't."

I also have no idea how to prove that a given bingo falls foul (or doesn't) of the meta-rule clause; all I know how to do is experimental "proof" (generate hands of numbers and see how many are a match - which proves nothing; if you flip a coin three times and it comes up heads three times, that doesn't prove the coin's rigged). And I can't do that very fast with my current understanding of spreadsheets, so trying to do it 64 times is a major headache.

In post 1453, Plotinus wrote:I think this might still be too overengineered: is "nonprimes which the first digit from the left is a, b, c, d, or e" going to generate a bingo with more than 1/64 of hands?
I improved my spreadsheet game. Generated a fresh 64 hands. Checked them against both meta-rules.

13/64 met the "no duplicates / no primes" category.
7/64 met the "no duplicates / no primes with 3 or more digits missing" category.
6/64 met the "no duplicates / no primes where the leftmost digits are A/B/C/D/E" category, with a few A/B/C/Ds and a few A/B/C/D/E/Fs.

Then did it again.

8/64: no duplicates/no primes.
4/64: no duplicates/no primes/3+ missing digits.
4/64: no duplicates/no primes/A-B-C-D-E starting digits.

I'd say that second one is probably a no as well.

Plotinus hasn't posted anything anywhere on-site since November 7th.

If and when he comes back ... probably?

Only alternative I can see to waiting or abandoning would be trying to find a back-up mod with the mathematical savvy to be able to run the game, and I'm not sure if that's something we can do without Plotinus?

First question: are all of us still interested in continuing?

I am. Obviously Nancy is. What about everyone else?

If everyone is, then we can tackle the second question: how to handle edge cases / bingo evaluation.

If we did that:

5n sequence (9) / Prime sequence (7): Sirius9121
5-smooth (Bingo - 7+1) / Perfect Powers (7): Farren
digit sum 10 (10) / digit sum prime (7) / 7s+7multiples (7): Rockhopper
Numbers with 1s (Bingo - 7+1): Not_Mafia
Starts with 5 or 6 (7): StrangerCoug
(none): Nancy Drew 39.

So we'd be looking at:

Rockhopper: 24
Farren: 15
Not_Mafia: 8
StrangerCoug: 7
Nancy Drew 39: 0

... if we did that, assuming we throw away the points Sirius9121 earned.

all right, so let's do it this way.

Hypothetical: I try to play a 6 to the sequence of "sum 2 numbers and reverse the digits" - 8 + 52 (already in the sequence) = 60; reverse the digits of that and you get 6. Legal, or no?

(This is not my move, but I believe in good faith it accurately represents the case in question.)

The question is: can you add one number to the sequence if that number plus two other numbers in the sequence follow the same pattern?

8 and 52 are already there; 8 + 52 = 60; 60 reversed is (0)6. So could I play a 6 to that sequence, using that logic?

Reversing 60's digits turns it into 06 - drop the leading zero as it's meaningless and that leaves 6.

I've sent a PM to Sirius (ccing Plotinus) asking for a final judgment, as we're past the prod timer.

If Sirius approves the move, he can post and process it. (Or he can post that he approves it, and I'll post it myself as soon as I can.)
If he rejects the move, I submitted a back-up move that he can post and process instead. (Or he can post that he rejects it and I'll post the backup move as soon as I can.)
If he doesn't respond within 24 hours, I'll post the original move and ask for the judgment of the other players instead so we can get the game moving again.

For the record, the move was:

1,3,7,27 to the sequence we were talking about.

3+7 = 10, which reverses to 01 -> this covers 1,3,7.
27+3 = 30, which reverses to 03 -> this covers the 27.
