I think Cabd is actually one of the problems, i respect his correct reads but the means of getting to them would be alienating

I agree slightly with what you're saying Noraa. I think Cabd's style is more prone to error than someone who combs through the game and tries to articulate what they want to say. I don't take away from his efforts, I just think that it's much harder to manage. Cabd's style is exhausitive and would eventually just test scum's patience on how much shit they're willing to deal with. Unfortunately, the answer is not much especially with the results of this game.

I'm a bit biased, I absolutely admit that. I'm not really a fan of the way things have changed. I've tried to adapt to it but it seems like you're less rewarded for trying to dissect someone's play, and the argument has become more about how someone's play is flawed. It's not that styles like this didn't exist, it's just that they've become way more prominent. Writing walls and the like is less favorable than just overwhelming your opponent by sheer will. I think the reward is that much sweeter if I can pin why you did it, how you did it, and what it means in the thread. I don't get much out of just shouting 'scum scum scum scum' until I get my way.

Consensus towns basically need to rethink everything when they're not hitting scum.

I think Cabd's play is going to be a lot less out there now that his surgery's healing and he's not in so much pain/on pain meds. That's already apparent in his day 3 posts.

Until it's not. I kinda think that won't happen, but the game was just chugging like a train and I think the momentum has been in town's favor. If that stops however? Then scum has a stronger position to take and start sowing seeds of doubt. That's where hyperposting in my opinion goes wrong, because town has to double their effort for no measure other than to either keep up, which leads to burnout

Yeah I think I have, but not consistently. I never joined games to stack them even before, It was always spur of the moment and recently because someone wants me to play; I always enjoyed variety

I started to think Nacho was just claiming messenger as a fakeclaim because it just seemed all too useless with Dunn, and I thought Dunn was being townie with me so we just sorta shrugged about it

Hubris can definitely go into effect somewhere, then I agree with Penguin that they could just leave Cabd alone and let him drive towards madness. It happened with me in a recent game, I got promoted as towncore guy and my town just eventually decided to not show up/leave me with the heavy lifting. Scum were the only people left whispering in my ear and it actually had a reverse effect this game has, where we just kept lynching in the pile of meh instead of considering deepwolfs

Mafia's such a dynamic game, playing again is reinvigorating my joy for it

I don't want people getting complacent and lining up mislims like the game has already been solved. I'm always prepared to miss something and right now I'm spending a majority of my time flicking through Noraa's posts. I really don't believe the scumteam is just compromised of the "lesser" players and lurkscum

Genuinely couldn't stand the pace, and I still don't. The last time there was a huge conversation about the effect of Hyperposting was 2016-2017 I think, and what's funny is that I was trying to give mafia another try around that time too. I have a few friends who have found homes here and they actually referred to one of their games which reached like 6000+ posts. Even then that seemed like a ludicrously high number for me. The ideal game length in my head was always like..2000? I've very much seen 3000+ games but just viewing the Theme page 6000 would be the new low.

That's just absurd to me. To what end does having such amount of time for deadline even matter if you're just gonna make 3000+ days. I always took the extended deadline (especially in light of larger setups) as a necessity so nobody falls behind. I genuinely believe that is has become a tactic to merely force players to play at this tempo and outst anyone from keeping up. I also believe that it has detracted from the quality of games and has rewarded cheaper tactics to secure wins.

Maybe I'm just old and it shows. I talk about this stuff because it's interesting to me. I like this game which is why I've probably stuck with it; I consider myself just fascinated with all forms of History as well. I feel like the game has shockingly become more cutthroat. It's just become Post Whatever You Want, Whenever You Want. I feel like back in the day even in my youth you'd get a slap on the wrist for clogging the thread, let alone just policy lynched.

That doesn't happen anymore I think, and people have become more tolerable in that aspect. You'd think that create a compromise from the people who still wanna wall but I find the players who are more invested in the complete rawness of social interactivity can't stop their impulses from just blurting out whatever comes into their head the moment it comes. I don't mean to take away from these people either, I just think that something can be learned from both sides. I feel my compromise as of late is kinda a mix of the new and old lol

Town would've picked up the pieces. You still have Cobra/Bell/Reagan to get through. Dunn is pretty smart too. Brian? Yes Reagan was wrong but they're strong players and I don't believe one wrong decision denies that. Nacho too, he would eventually figure it out and I think his wrongness isn't not detrimental in his overall ability

Thanks unwnd, for the record I remember reading some of your posts from Day 1 and thinking to myself that I would have tried to link up w/ you (not in a game-mechanics way, in a Day play way) if I were town because your posts were a breath of fresh air after wading through a lot of the...trash...from the first like 90 pages
