It seems fucking impossible to get both objectives completed. There's just not enough time before you're hitting too many incidents.
We are several months in now (because what else are you going to do!), and I will say this challenge doesn't get easier! You have to be super efficient each turn, and even then it can come down to cards.

incident control is super important, and can be challenging due to travel. Making teams is really helpful to deal with those while you are working on objectives. The other thing is you can replay the month and start with any previously finished objectives completed. We have had a couple months where it took two playthroughs to get both objectives. Bad part is you risk more surveillance on the board.

Finally, I've tried replaying Root after a whole year.

I took the Vagabond Thief, and boy did I dominate the game.

(Not really, I was just bullying the Cat player and scored a bunch of points for cleaning out her Keep space. Other players in the game are Eerie and Corvid, who did pretty well.)

But yeah, it's a pretty solid game, you just have to know what you (and others) are trying to do. The reason I felt like I hated it back then because I had no idea how to go for my win.

If a group doesn't know how to counter the vagabond it's an easy game

Recommend getting both expansions they're excellent!

I really want Root, it looks cool.

Had a game night on Saturday, but we had five players, so we only did Lords of Waterdeep and Cards Against Disney, still waiting on Brass: Birmingham and Gloomhaven to have the right amount of players to not just be me and my girlfriend with me struggling to know the rules, and her barely paying attention.
I've only made one good post, and don't you dare accuse me of doing it again.

I want to ego this thread to learn about cool board games.

We are behind the times, just got pandemic legacy season 2 and are through March. Not too hard so far, but expecting it to get much harder soon.

Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective might be similarly suited?

I'm refusing to buy any Pandemic games until after we get a vaccine, by the way, too real.

I was maybe not smart enough for Sherlock Holmes but I always felt like even when we understood what happened in the case there was some cognitive leap that was required to solve it. But maybe I just didn't have the attention span for it

I also started playing Detective: City of Angels recently and I really really love it (although it’s a bit on the expensive side). I play through the cases solo first and then run them against my friends in a GM kind of role. The cases are pretty cool and I enjoy bamboozling my friends.

I haven’t actually played, I just remember the description being similar to the Whitehall game
brass
shafted mentioned. It’s on my bucket list though  the DCOA game I mentioned is also probably along the same lines but clocks in at $90 for the base game so I didn’t think it was worth suggesting.

Just for clarity's sake, shaft.ed talked about Whitehall.

I did get my niece board games for Christmas this year, but she's three, so I got her Hi Ho Cherry-o Mickey edition, Enchanted Forest, and My First Carcassonne.

I'm definitely just going to be the board game uncle at this point because I have never seen the ukelele I bought her for her birthday which my sister insisted I had to get for her.

Actually, while I'm active here. Anyone remember 13 Dead End Drive?

None of my friends do, but I know it was a game I liked as a kid.

I found Tsuro can work for young players too. Gave it to my niece around 5 or 6
i also dont know why anyone would want a noise producing device for their young child

The Whitehall Mystery is pretty specific. I brought my copy to visit last Xmas and that's all he wanted to play.
Letters from Whitechapel or Scotland Yard I think would be the most similar, the former being a lot longer playing time though.
I always just find it weird when a good game can't be purchased anymore.

I considered it malicious compliance with her list because the rest was all religious shit and I was like "No, you get the noisiest one because there's no way a child wants to get a fucking Children's Bible."

Also, will add, the same thing happened to a game from my childhood, Talisman. It's not nearly as much stuff as Gloomhaven but it is just as expensive now, since the previous edition was ended and they still haven't released the next one.

My mom and aunt used to get each other's kids noisy toys as like a back and forth prank kind of situation.

I swear my uncle got us something noisy, and then when he had kids, my parents got them something annoying and noisy, too.
