You can't play the Weaver by themself without playing every villager that comes before the Weaver in the chain: the Shepherd and the Spinner.

Feel free to change your turn.

Understood. I'll invoke the V/LA timer for you and add 24 hours. We're working this out behind the scenes!

(expired on 2020-12-18 13:40:00) on the timer.

No worries. Placing more could be good if you have the villagers necessary to do so.

Thank you for your patience, everyone. Nancy has PM'd me that she'll be playing the Shepherd last.

Nancy Drew 39
started her turn by placing the
Fromager
, going after the
Milk Maid
.
The Milk Maid goes inactive for
-2 Food
, which the Fromager covered by providing
15 Gold
and
1 Food
.

Next, she placed the
Scribe
.
The Scribe scores 1 Silver for every villager she has in her hand. At the end of the turn, she'll be left with 10 villagers in her hand, which translates to 10 Silver.

Finally, she placed the
Shepherd
.
The Shepherd gives the Village
1 Food
.

The village of
Wisteria
ended the turn gaining
15 Gold
and some Silver.
Here's how the Village looks after that turn.

I discard cards 1, 2 and 4 for 3 Lumberjacks (the extra ones are for my Log Rafters' bonus), and then play 2 Wood Carvers, a Grocer and a Fisher - I pay one of Sirius's Harvesters 2¢ for my Grocer, and my Shipwright earns 2¢.
It's quite hilarious to me how I've been focusing on building up to a Fromager for most of the game, only to end up not playing them because I ended up with a combo that ended up making it a waste of time in comparison.

I've been informed that I interpreted the Wood Carver wrong, oops. Plan B: still get my 3 lumberjacks, this time with cards 2, 4, 5; play the Wood Carvers, use an Apprentice to get a Sirius's Wheeler, and play a Cartwright on that.

Thanks, Felissan! About the exchange:

Image
Wood Carver

Chain: Lumberjack -
Wood Carver

Silver equal to Gold on your Wood villagers

Because I had put an "on" instead of a "from", it could be interpreted as "score coins above your Wood villagers" instead of "score combined Gold value of your Wood villagers"; the latter being the correct interpretation.

Moving forward, I'll fix the text, and additionally, include everything in the Clarifications section of the rulebook for easy referencing at the rules post.

Felissan
began by discarding Villagers
2
,
4
, and
5
, in favour of three
Lumberjack
s. One final look at the Road:

The RoadNo stacks left; discard a villager for a Basic Villager.

Basic Villagers
  Image
Miner
  5
  Image
Hayer
  4
  Image
Lumberjack
  1

Then, she placed two
Wood Carver
s, each going after one of the Lumberjacks.
Each Wood Carver scores Silver equal to the combined Gold values of her Wood villagers. She'll end the turn with a total of 15 Gold from her Wood villagers alone, meaning that each Wood Carver will score 15 Silver.

Next, she played the
Apprentice
.
She used the Apprentice to swap for a
Wheeler
, which is only present in the village of
Aberriw
. As such, Mizzytastic's Wheeler will be replaced with Felissan's Apprentice, and vice versa.
The Wheeler goes after another Lumberjack and gives
3 Gold
to the Village.

Finally, she placed the
Cartwright
, which goes after the Wheeler.
The Wheeler immediately goes inactive for
-3 Gold
, which was returned three-fold by the Cartwright with
9 Gold
.

That's the end of the turn, and the village of
Montleduc
gained
9 Gold
and some Silver.
Here's how both Villages involved look after that turn.

Everything changed at the Second Market, and the competition was quite unpredictable right until the end.
Thank you for playing, and I hope everyone enjoyed the game.

Post-game discussion:

So that was Villagers! Thanks everyone for sticking it out until the end. Despite a few hiccups, I think it went much smoother than I anticipated. And quickly, too! From start to finish, the game took 40 days or so, which is about half as long as my estimation.

I'm definitely up for hosting again, because I quite enjoyed hosting the game. I also want to introduce expansions for future games, since there are a few that you can mix and match. Specifically for Game 2, I'm thinking of introducing the Developments expansion, where there are side goals that you can fulfil for extra coins or certain advantages.

I think my main task now is to smooth out the rules before Game 2. Even though it's a direct adaptation, there were avoidable errors that made their way in the game. When transcribing, I try to express the villagers' abilities in as few words as possible, which could (and did) introduce ambiguities.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Well played, everyone! And congratulations to Mizzytastic.

My big money strategy at the cost of economy ended up not paying out; I seriously underestimated the power Silver would have in the game, and that turned out to be a huge mistake. By the time I realized it, it was way too late to do anything about it - except for trying to grab what I could, and my village wasn't set up to take advantage of what I could get. The best I could do were blocking plays, and there were too many good Silver cards out there to be able to stop everything.

Excellent modding throughout. Five stars. Minimal errors, and the ones that did happen were handled in a fair and transparent manner.

I'm ambivalent on the idea of expansions; I think they're a great way to re-energize the game, but they also can provide something of a barrier to new players at times. I like playing with them personally, but I'm hesitant if it's a game I haven't played before.

I'd love to see this run again, whether I'm in it or not. If there's anything I can do to help that along, let me know - whether it's playing, replacing, whatever. :)

Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated. I'm glad you enjoyed the first game!

I went ahead and updated the rules a bit to cover everything that has been mentioned in the thread so far. The Clarifications part is now its own section in the rules post. and have been reformatted to be used as the Announcements log and the Game History. There's also an update on the Activity Requirements section:
  • When we enter the final round, everyone is immune from being replaced because it would suck to see a replacement so late in the game. However, if anyone misses their prod timer, they won't have it until the end of the game.
  • Automatic playing is changed: both drafting and building now follow this priority:
    • whether they can continue or complete a chain
    • whether they start a chain
    • whether they have a Builder (except when there's 3 or more in their Village, in which case ignore)
    • whether they have Food (except when there's 3 or more in their Village, in which case ignore)
    • decreasing order of Gold (Silver after the First Market)
    • decreasing order of Silver (Gold after the First Market)
    When drafting:
if there's a tie in the priorities, take the one that's been there the longest.
    When building:
determine all villagers to be placed first up until their Build Limit, then if any of them need Basic Villagers, return the remaining villagers in number label order to the left-most stack.

And with that,
sign-ups for Game 2 are now open!
I decided to use the expansion for this game because I want to try it out and I think it'll bring a bit more excitement to the game. has the announcement, but I'll put it here as well for posterity.

Game 2 Variant: Developments ExpansionThere are 12 Developments, split in three categories. Each Development has a certain requirement, like having the most Hay symbols, or the most villagers with coins, and so on. Fulfilling a Development gives the player a reward; most of the time it's coins, but a few give out advantages for the game.

At the start of the game, one Development from each category is randomly drawn and the three of them stay for the entire game. After each Build Phase but before any Markets, there will be a
Development Phase
where the winner of each development is announced. That player would keep the Development and its benefits until the next Development Phase, even if someone else beats them before that. If there's a tie for a certain Development, no one gets it. Developments are not scored during Markets.

Thanks Farren! His slot is open for new players.

Oh, I almost forgot: village names! If you have one, feel free to post it with your /in.
Farren, I assume you're sticking with Riverton, but feel free to change the name if you'd like.

/out bit of a bad time mentally plus developed a case of sinusitis, got other stuff I need to prioritise

It was a fun game. My strategy was mostly just trying to make the cards on my hand work and trying to find the unlockers for my own stuff. I think I was relatively lucky there, only time I ever really felt cut off was when I tried to cut other people off thinking a card would wheel.

If anyone is curious Aberriw is the Welsh name of the village my mums family currently live in and around

Sorry to hear that Mizzy, but I understand. Do what you must, and hope you're in a better place very soon. Also it's nice to hear some backstory about your village name.

Glad to have you back, Felissan! Same deal with Farren, new players can still join after the player list is full if there's time. We need one more /in to trigger the 48-hour timer.
