I'd suggest a slight change to the timer rules:

72 hours initially
+24 hours to the timer with every correct guess
Timer pauses while waiting for guesses to be confirmed.

That way there's no punishment for making an easy guess early.

Whilst I agree with the idea here, it involves a load of maths and like people would need to work out the time difference between the guesses and stuff like that. So whilst I agree that this'd be a fairer system, I think practically it's gonna be more difficult to manage and keep track of.

The other way works but it's down to the teams to manage their time effectively, so like have 1 or 2 people who are gonna be around before the deadline to make guesses if they haven't been made so you get the full 72 hours on the first guess, hopefully this'll also discourage players from just jumping the gun if they think an answer is super obvious

okay - personally I think 24 hours between guesses is really short if you’re trying to check in with your team before guessing again, and I think somewhat unevenly favors teams that like to decide all their guesses at once

eta: not sure if helpful info, but there was one round where I could have cut the other team’s phase early and I didn’t because it felt really mean to do that while they were waiting for people to check in

Fair idk, like stats makes me think of probability and there’s a “fair” chance of something happening

Plane is because there was that famous study on survivorship bias by that US statistician in WW2 that determined that they needed to put more armour on the bodies of planes not the wings, because the fact that the ones with holes in the wings were the ones making it back meant that was what they could survive, not that they needed more wing armour. I think it basically launched applied statistics as a discipline?
