First: a big thank you to all the players for sticking through this one. It took longer than I expected it would. I think if I run it again, I'm going to cut the timer down to 24 hours per turn - probably with a more lenient prod system for turns that take more than 24 hours but less than 48 hours. Whether or not I do is going to depend on demand - if we get at least three who are interested, I'll run it again, but I'm only going to give it about three days or so for that to happen. If it doesn't, I'll move on to the next game, which will be ... something else. Not sure what at this point. Suggestions are welcome. :)

Second: for those who were wondering, the next tiles up in the deck were:

Disaster - Funeral
God
Ra

So Nancy got the most points she possibly could out of her final turn - the Funeral would have cost her the +5 Pharaoh bonus; the God only makes up +2; then Ra #9 comes along and wipes out the entire lot.

Third: that was definitely a bizarre game in terms of what showed up when. The 1st Epoch was unnaturally short, and then we had 45 tiles in a row with no Ra Tiles showing up at the start of the 2nd Epoch. If this had been a 5-player game, where 10 Ra Tiles ends the Epoch instead of 9, that 45 tile streak shows up during the 1st Epoch instead ... which would have made for some really interesting gameplay.

Good game! I thought I had blown it when Vincent got all those monuments, but I was lucky enough to get the tiles I needed.

I'm not sure if I would play again. I enjoyed it, but three months is a little too long.

Yeah, three months was definitely overkill.

I think part of it was due to the holiday season - both Thanksgiving and Christmas had an impact. 24 hour turn timers might also help.

It'd be nice to be able to fast-forward through some of the complete no-brainer moments - who wants to bid for a lot that consists of the {1} and nothing else, for example? - but it's hard to come up with objective standards. We had people voluntarily call auctions for just the {13} and {12}, so "no treasure on the Track" isn't good enough.

I enjoyed it but I wish luck mattered a bit less but I would definitely play this again if you rerun it. Do you have more games like Splendor, because that’s my favourite. I never get bored of that.

The closest game I have to Splendor is probably Century Golem Edition - an Endless World. Worker placement, but it still has the idea of collect gems (with a cap to make sure you don't collect too many) -> buy cards that do nifty stuff -> win game. I've actually got that one tentatively planned for taking over Splendor's slot if/when people lose interest in Splendor. It's a bit less of an engine builder, though - the game ends once someone buys their 8th card, and not all of the cards have an effect on economy. Not sure on length, but I *think* it'd be comparable to Splendor?

St. Petersburg and Terraforming Mars are both engine builders that I own and am familiar with. They'd both be longer than Splendor for sure, and probably longer than Ra.

I think I'd be okay running a long game; I just need to set the expectation that it will be a long game so the players know what they're getting into, and to adjust the Activity rules to fit.

Was also considering Blue Moon City and Notre Dame, neither of which is anything like Splendor. Notre Dame I'd probably tweak the rules a bit to speed it up.

Thanks for running the game, Farren! I enjoyed it a lot. Congrats Snakes for the win and everyone for an all-around wonderful game.

Personally, I think that the very first bid I made was a pretty bad call because it left me in a tough situation for not a whole lot gained. I think I pretty much spent the first two Epochs course-correcting for that call. I even called a bid for a 13 with nothing else and even
that
isn't a guarantee that I'll win it

The bid where I called the Monuments is probably the moment when I switched from trying for 8 Monuments to trying for sets instead. I almost didn't spot that!

Quacks of Quedlinburg is an awesome game to play in person.

Could take a while if run through the forums, though. I'd definitely sign up.
