If you drew a chip that you don't want in your cauldron, you can use your potion to remove it and place it back in your bag. This empties your potion, and you would need to spend 2 rubies to refill it so you could use it again.

Your potion is full right now, so refilling it wouldn't do anything.

If you asked a question about the different chips, I don't see it.

Note - this does not cover all possible options; only 10-buy options and the new Purple chips.

With 10 buys:

Black 1: gives you a second Black chip, which keeps you tied with me and ahead of Felissan in the Black chip department. It's how many you draw compared to her and I, not how many you have, that matters - but having more of them means you're more likely to draw them. Upside: more potential for Rubies and Starting Token pushes, which are great - if you're luckier than your opponents. Downside: it's the weakest in terms of chip value, and falling behind in chip value can be detrimental, especially after a round when you got the fewest Buys. That being said, I derive benefit from you *not* picking this option, so take any advice I give about it with a grain of salt.

Blue 2: a more powerful version of your Blue 1, both in chip value and in power. This lets you draw two chips with total safety - but you can only keep one of them, even if both are good. Upside: it goes well with your Black chip and can help mitigate the dangers of risky play (which your Green chips encourage). Plus it's a 2, which means better cauldron progress. Downside: it's annoying when you draw two good chips and have to toss one back in the bag.

Red 2: a bigger Red chip. Its power doesn't change - it still gets extra boosts if you draw any Orange chips first. You've got two Orange chips so far, so there's a decent chance that *if* you draw your Red, it'll get an extra +1 move when you play it. Upside: it's pure movement with some variability in its strength. Downside: it encourages getting more Oranges, which don't do anything other than boost Reds.

Red 1 / Green 1: a split play. Reds and Greens don't have any particular combos, but they don't hurt each other either? A pair of 1s instead of a 2. Upside: The Red still works with your Oranges, and the more Greens you have, the more likely you are to draw one when it counts (last two draws). Having a bunch of small chips instead of fewer big chips means more ... average results, I guess? Less likely to have stellar rounds or truly horrible rounds. Downside: kinda pulls you in two different directions, which can mess with any sort of master plan of bag-building.

Purple 1 (9 Buys): every time you draw it, you get 1 VP at the end of the round. Not much in the way of cauldron progress, but it can generate a few VPs between now and the end of the game, and VPs are what matter when all's said and done. Note that the rewards vary based on how many you draw, so if you go heavy Purples, don't expect to get 1 VP for each Purple drawn.

The advantage to that - it's effectively like guaranteeing I draw a 1-point chip with no powers at the start, before I actually start pulling chips out of my bag. Extra progress towards Buys, VPs, and a better chance of getting the bonus die.

The bonus is permanent - I'll get it every round for the rest of the game. And it stacks; I've picked up three of them already, so I'm starting three spaces ahead in the Cauldron. Two of the three came from Black 1s; the third from the Rubies I just spent.

The advantage to keeping the Rubies is being able to recharge your potion if you use it - Felissan used her potion last round, and she was able to recharge it, so she can use it again if she needs it this round. If she'd had no Rubies (or only 1 Ruby), she'd be stuck without it this round - and every round until she got more Rubies.

Bombs are the only bad chips. Every other chip in the game has value and will cause no outright harm. Worst case, their powers don't work - but you still get the chip's value even then.

And even Bombs have chip value, so they're not 100% bad.

Rat tails are a mechanism that helps other people catch up to the leader.

At the beginning of last round, Felissan was in the lead with 5 victory points, Farren had 4, you had 3 and Inspiratieloos had 2. There is a rat tail between the 1st and 2nd victory points and between the 4th and 5th victory points. This means that everyone had 1 rat tail in between themselves and Felissan.

For each rat tail in between you and the leader, you get to start 1 space ahead of where you would usually start. So normally, you would have started on the 0 buys space, but you started on the 1 buy space because you had 1 rat tail. If you had 2 rat tails, you would have started on the 2 buys space.

The event's pretty straight-forward this time around. 4 VPs - either puts you in the lead outright or tied with inspiratieloos (if he opts for the VPs). Removing a Bomb 1 means it's gone from your bag permanently - so you've got a better chance of being able to draw more chips without blowing up. Also note that at the start of Round 6, you'll have to add a Bomb 1 to your bag permanently (as will the rest of us), so this will mitigate the effects of that.

Being in the lead at any time before the end of the game means the possibility of giving your opponents rat-tail boosts. That being said, if you're behind, catching up at some point would be advisable, and the events usually aren't this generous with the VPs.

Then again, the events usually don't let you get rid of Bombs permanently either. Don't expect this opportunity to show up again.
