Uncommon Rules

Experienced players are often tempted to skim the rules, so here are the rules most unique to my modding to be most aware of.

1. You must play to win the game. I enforce this rule somewhat more than other mods.
   
2. "Pretending to break a rule is the same as breaking a rule" is included in Common Rules below, but it is particularly important with this rule. It's allowed to claim you are not fighting to win quite as hard as you did last game, but you cannot claim not to be playing to your win at all, even as a tactic that you believe gets you closer to your win condition. This includes saying you would concede as one alignment.
   
3. The above two rules do not constitute a blanket ban on selfvoting or bussing, which often either furthers the wincondition, or in other cases is just a manner of conceding an unwinnable game to the other team.
   
4. If you feel totally unable to play to your win condition due to personal conflicts with other players, please request replacement upon realizing this.
   
5. This game is using a special rule that relates to hammer testing and quickhammer coordinations. When you make a vote, (this includes special votes, modify as appropriate), you can post,
   in bold
   ,
   I and all members of my faction that are known to me and I to them, VOTE: Isis and win the game
   . Do not name any other members of your faction. If you've made a mistake and voting together with all partners would not win you the game, it will be treated simply as a vote. If you haven't made a mistake, then you will perform votes on behalf of your teammates and win the game.
   
6. The above rule does not work if you do not have the mechanical information required to know that it would win the game. For example, if you are Masons with a player and one scum remains among five players, you cannot cause your teammate to vote Isis with you. It would only work if you previously investigated Isis as guilty in an open setup. (In practice this rule will usually benefit anti-town groups the most, but it is defined in a neutral way).
   
7. Discuss site/game rule violations with the moderator/listmod, not in the game thread.

Common Rules

1. All site-wide rules apply. In particular:
   No discussion of ongoing games is allowed
   . Post as though they don't exist, except when mentioning information whitelisted by the site rule: the
   number
   of games in which you are alive.
   
2. Do not quote your Role PM or any other PMs from the Mod, real or fabricated. Do not paraphrase too closely.
   
3. Do not quote private topics. Paraphrase. Do not mention timestamps on posts made in private topics. Remember that true paraphrasing focuses on the message being conveyed and not the linguistic or physical features of the messages - for instance, if Isis used a bulleted list, and that post strikes you as important and makes you think she feels confident she's solved this game, "Isis posted a bulleted list" is a physical feature you shouldn't reference, "Isis has been professory in the private topic" conveys the idea. Summarizing a private topic in a way that clearly delineates which posts contained which information breaks this rule.
   
4. You may quote a private topic if it is fully known(everyone alive reading the post is also permitted to view the post in the private topic it came from.)
   
5. Do not edit or delete your post, even if you have the ability to do so.
   
6. Do not use encrypted text, small text, or otherwise make it hard to see what you are writing.
   
7. Do not use cryptography or other complex information hiding. If you hide information in a post, it must be based purely on the English letters in that post, without shifting them to different letters based on any kind of rule, and their significance must be left-to-right.
   
8. Don't hide information using shared reminiscence.
   
9. Do not discuss this game outside this thread or PTs related to this game you have access to.
   
10. Do not use provable randomness. Saying you used a random criteria is fine, providing even weak evidence that you did so isn't.
    
11. Do not fake mod posts/edits.
    
12. Once you are dead you may not post. No bah posts.
    
13. Be civil to other players. Criticize play, not players. As one rule of thumb, negative nouns or profane adjectives that describe a player will start strikes against you; describing actions of a player will not.
    
14. No set of rules can be complete. If you think something is wrong, please don't do it. Breaking the spirit of rules is also disallowed. Do not encourage others to break the rules either. If in doubt, please PM me.
    
15. During the course of the game I may add extra rules if necessary. These rule changes will be announced publicly.

Deadlines, Activity, and replacements

1. Nights will last 48 hours. Similar mafia controlled decisions last 48 hours.
   
2. Prods will be issued if you do not post for 48 hours.
   
3. If you get three or more prods, or fail to respond to a prod by posting in thread within 24 hours (or by PM if at Night), I will begin seeking for a replacement (this means the third prod functions like a notice that you are racing the search for your replacement.)
   
4. If you receive a prod and satisfy that prod, you are "on probation" for the next 96 hours after responding to that prod. Meeting criteria for a prod during probation immediately triggers the search for your replacement even if it's your second prod.
   
5. If you expect to be unable to post for a while, please declare V/LA in thread. Should your V/LA be unreasonably long (>5 days), however, I strongly suggest you request replacement. There's no probation during V/LA
   
6. You will still be prodded while on V/LA, but these will not count towards the above three prod limit. An official prod will be sent 24 hours after your V/LA ends if you haven't posted then.
   
7. When replacements or prods happen at night, deadlines will be tolled as appropriate to conceal information. If it is possible to conceal information and avoid tolling by forcing the active part of a faction to make decision on behalf of the entire faction, though, the deadline will not be tolled.
   
8. Factionally aligned groups can choose actions for eachother and submit actions by PTs.
   
9. For replacements, day deadlines are extended by the length of time between the missing player's due and the first post of the new player. A post that does little more than acknowledge they've replaced into the game isn't counted as that post. Don't exploit this rule.
   
10. If you would like to replace out, please PM me. Do not publicly replace out, discuss about wanting to replace out, threaten to replace out, or persuade/dissuade others from replacing out.
    
11. Once your replacement request is publicized, it is final. You must cease to post. Inquiries about possibly retaining the slot must be conducted by mod PM.

Voting Rules

1. Use VOTE: to vote.
   
2. Votes are invalid unless the player's user account is named precisely without abbreviation. Mispellings of a character or two don't affect this, typing only the first four characters of an eighteen character username does.
   
3. Typing a post that includes nothing but -bolded- uncolored text "Isis=Waswas" will make an official nickname that can be used in votes. There is no limit on this feature aside from how wanton use would inherently break sitewide rules regarding spam.
   
4. Once majority is achieved, it is final, and the Day will end immediately with further votes and unvotes being invalid.
   
5. If majority is not achieved by deadline, I will privately contact the mafia to decide on behalf of the town.
   
6. I will do my best to ensure that each vote count is accurate. Check the vote counts. If I make a grave error I may reset all votes at my discretion.

Isis stuffed her sweet little sphinxling into her bag as she plodded along the walk towards PAD Academy. Her green sweatshirt blocked the chilly breeze, and her headphones kept her in the zone.

"Gotta make it at this place".

She had been fortunate to get a scholarship, since she had no parents to pay for her. She knew lots of others she knew had applied, but she wasn't sure who else she'd run into, because she didn't know who'd made it in.

Hoping to encourage herself, she played "eye of the tiger" through her headphones.

Isis walked into the hall of the academy's largest building where throngs of students she didn't recognize bustled around, clutching texts about Twin Pronged Attack and Enhanced Heart Orbs.

"Where is a friend?"

Use Heal tags to help Isis find the player that is her friend. It is suggested to the townies that they select a Vanilla Townie to be the selection.

Isis wandered the hall, peeking through the doors to try to see the board in each room and determine the subject. She had an orb skyfall probability class, and she was unsure about whether some of the rooms were referencing that or were ecology charts.
She saw many strangers she could ask, but she felt just a bit shy. She had come early and still had half an hour to work it out. She clutched a notebook tight to her chest.

She settled into a chair surreptitiously, and tried to listen to the chatter from the other students so she could figure out what the class was about. If she determined it was the wrong class, she could leave. She still had plenty of time.

are these vote counts actually accurate?

I'm notoriously bad at vote count accuracy and would not adopt theme game mechanics that modify vote counts (unless they did something super obvious). If a vote count looks like it has an error it is likely it has an error.

I let old vote counts with errors stand by default and try to correct mistakes in the next vote count instead so that the new set of votes is available in the new vote count and the perceived gamestate of a previous time is also preserved in the record.

I believe the most recent vote count to be correct.

Isis noticed a familiar face packing up her bag to leave the class.

"Ydrasse!"

"Oh, hi Isis! Were you here for the same Transmography lecture I just got? It's a shame we weren't in the same lecture then."

"Oh, no, I'm looking for a Probability class with Professor Grigory at the top of the hour."

"What? In this building??"

"B-building? Oh, tell me where I need to get going, but I probably still have time."

"That's too many stairs. It's on the thirty second floor of a spire."

"Oh, oh."

Isis's forehead moistened with nervous sweat from concern about the notion of being tardy to her very first class.

"It's my next class too. Just hop on."

Ydrasse shared a couple empty feet of her broomstick, then ascended out the open window, zipping around the sky in a couple unnecessary circles before barreling through the window of a red-bricked spire. Isis wasted no time hopping down from the broomstick, but her nausea was soon replaced by gratitude. "Thanks, Ydrasse. For a moment I was worried no one I knew got into PAD Academy. Let's sit together, and maybe tag up when classes are all done, too?"

Ydrasse nodded and offered an easy smile. The girls filed into wooden desks in Professor Grigory's class, and scribbled notes on some valuable, if a bit dry, points regarding the conditional and unconditional probabilities of orb skyfalls.

From such a high up point, Isis was able to point out a spot in the quad with some nice benches she'd like to meet.

"Could I see you there later, Ydrasse?"

"Sure!"

"That'd be great."

"I have to take the follow up class on 7x6 probabilities.. no break for me. But Remedies class you mentioned is twelve floors down, I think. You have time."

Isis nodded, and as much as she missed seeing her friend, she turned her back to descend down the stairs, hoping to actually arrive at a class early this time now that she knew where it was.

Ydrasse is now Great Witch of the Radiant Wings, Fasca. You do not know what this means. It is confirmed that this is not purely cosmetic and will affect the game.

Isis' Remedies class turned out to be in a room coated in white paint with white tables. There were many, many students.

Each of the tables only had two chairs, and had what seemed to be lab work kits. It seemed that this was likely an activity based class, with lab partners.

Would Isis make a new friend, or find someone she had worked with before to pair up with?

Use heal tags to vote on a player to become Isis' lab partner. It is suggested that selecting a Vanilla Townie may be beneficial to the Vanilla Townies. You have six days to decide. Ydrasse cannot be the selection, but she can vote.

"Greeting students! I trust you all brought your pets with you, so that you can perform your heart orb lab activities? It is difficult to get in touch with students before the first day but we sent several letters."

Isis face flashed with shades of embarrassed and worried purple. She knew about the requirement, and it was the very reason she had adopted her little sphinxling this year, but she hadn't expected it to be necessary the very first day.

"Um, mine's at the vet," she stuttered.

It was true, but it was a vet visit she could have scheduled at a different time.

"Well, care is important. But you need a subject to practice. You'll have to join another pair. Move your chair."

Isis looked around at all the groups that were paired up. Many of them had this look as though they'd known eachother for years and had joined the Academy together, which made her hesitant about crashing the party.

But finally she saw one girl who looked like a flame sorcerer paired with a relatively pedestrian looking girl. It seemed less likely that they knew eachother, which made it seem like a safe bet.

"H-hi."

"Hi! The first day of class is never too hard" Tea Gardner said. Her Fire Sorcerer was quieter.

"Ok class. Today were going to first learn about heart row unbinds! With the proper equipment, you can use a row of heart orbs to unbind any ally! Put your pet on the table and open the box."

Tea Gardner picked Sha 77 up and put his blobby body onto the center of the table. Then she opened up and a deluge of black energy leapt from the box and wrapped around Sha 77, pinning him to the table.

"Squeeeeee".

"I will provide you with Heart orbs in a moment. First, observe what the binding itself is like."

"Squee.. Skee..."

Sha 77 looked up at Isis with round, pleading eyes. She felt too much compassion for his poor suffering and touched him and used her active skill, before anyone had any heart orbs. The black binding broke away.

"Yip! Yip!"

"Shh.. stay down.. uh.. sorry you two.. he looked so miserable."

"Oh, it's ok. I've taken this class before, and it doesn't seem like you need it." Tea said generously.

Sha 77's halo glowed.

After restoration class, Isis invited Tea Gardner, Fire Sorcerer, and Sha 77 to go down and meet Ydrasse with her.

There were lots of other students outside of all stripes.

They all chatted for a bit, until suddenly, a rather crimsonly dispositioned student approached Isis.



"Hey! Try to beat me at volleyball! I'm here on an athletic scholarship, you're here on an academic scholarship, right? It'll be fun for everyone to watch. Don't worry - fair is fair, I'll quiz bowl ya tomorrow.

You need five teammates to play volleyball on the Pad Academy court."

Theurgia pointed to brightly coloured court under the shade of some trees. With the gentle breeze, it seemed like win or lose, it would be fun. But.. wouldn't it be crazy, if with the right team, Isis could win?

"I'll warn you.. we play with jammerballs instead of normal balls, and they move fast but are really lightweight. It might matter more to have a group of friends that are mentally in sync than to just have the most athletic players, which only helps a little."

Ydrasse thought, twirling her hair. "I have lots of aggressive friends I could call in to make you a fast team, Isis."

Sha 77 fluttered in the air, bouncing on Fire Sorcerer's hat and tilting the brim of her hat at goofy angles. It seemed to somehow mean he was equally able to assemble a volleyball team.

At this point in time by design, the entire setup is revealed.

All players were told to heal a player, then heal another player, only being told it would help town if that player is town.

Isis, Scholarship Student at Noon leads teams of Attackers and Healers. She gets bonuses when cooperating with those types of characters.

Ydrasse became Fasca, an Attacker leader who leads attackers and only attackers.

Sha 77 became Tea Gardner & Shining Friendship and Fire Sorcerer, a Healer who leads only healers. In PAD it's also an attacker but for the purposes of this game it's not an attacker. They're both leader-oriented cards so it does kind of make sense, only one of the two could be a leader. I had to pick Tea to reference Gacha Mafia, it was too perfect that it was actually a healer type leader which is rare but was designed into this game.

During N1, Ydrasse shall target five players, other than herself or Sha 77, and make them attackers. Some players might be both healer and attacker.

If more than one player gains neither type, those players form a neighborhood for the rest of the game.

No one will be NKed. Day two, all players will choose a set of five healers or five attackers (remember, Ydrasse is an attacker, and Sha 77 is a healer). This is a majority vote. If all five of those players are town, both mafia will be revealed and instantly slain! If 1-2 of those players are mafia (oh, yeah, by the way, this is a 7-2, that gets revealed now also), then nothing happens, and the game proceeds to a D2 elimination, and then the rest of the game is mountainous.

If you want to build an Attacker team for Isis, use "hurt" "/hurt" tags, and type in the name of the player you want to exclude from the volleyball team.
If you want to build a Healer team for Isis, use "heal" "/heal" tags, and type in the name of the player you want to exclude from the volleyball team.
This exactly corresponds to a team, because there are six of each type and you can only take 5.

Infinity 324 noticed her friend Ydrasse bouncing a volleyball on her broomstick. The prim goddess smiled. She loved the simplicity of the game. It lent itself to straightforward and powerful strategies. In her younger years she'd been less aggressive. But since her reincarnation she'd tapped into her ability to attack more often.

"If you play with me, I can enhance the ball and hold it still for one second. Gives us a chance to hit it hard. You're a hard hitter, aren't you Isis? I have some thoughts on other good picks too."

She pressed a slender finger to her lips, as though she had secrets she didn't want to tell right away.

"What do you say?"

I genuinely don't know what your reads are except "EVERYBODY HATES ME!" - which for the record is a self fulfilling prophecy. No matter which alignment you are, you're now being openly disruptive and anti-town.

A small Flea the Magician tied one of faer stems to the volleyball net and began to swing, seeming to have a nonchalant attitude towards aggregating interest in a game. "I'd be happy to play with you Isis, but I'm mostly a good luck charm more than anything else, hate to say it but that's what's actually going to count the most in volleyball, like it or not." Fae flipped faer hair to catch an updraft and swung faster. Faer auto-recover awakening made every pixel in faer body flash at the apex of each swing.

Isis decided that she would like aggressive friends to form her team.
Ydrasse nodded and zipped away on her broom, because it was shortly after class and she knew that tris would be getting dirty soon if she wasn't drafted. Tris was grinning at a mud puddle outside the school and dived to make a mud angel when Ydrasse caught her at the last minute to carry her back to school. "You're going to do some organized activity after school for once."

Alisae offered to play eirself. "I'm friends with both Theurgia and you.. I was going to go to the mall after class, but it would just be wrong for me to skip this". E offered to take the first serve.

Andresvmb came over from a fight scene from acting practice and offered to play, even though he knew he would get sweaty.
He carried a regalia keychain with him for good luck, that made his suit more powerful. Every time he would strike the ball, PookyTheMagicalBear would glow and flash with power.

Theurgia grinned. "Quite a batch of players!". The demon had her own team of brightly colored athletes.

Isis was excited as the game started. It was every bit as challenging and complex as Theurgia had suggested it would be, aiming for spots hard to return, and anticipating where the ball would go. The very first point had over a dozen volleys, but.. the team's cooperation was not perfect. Sometimes no one expected who would get a pass to who. Sometimes it wasn't clear whose responsibility it was to return the volley.

In the end, the scholarship athlete won. "That was fun! It was the expected result, but it was good to see how it went. " Theurgia said.

"I have time this afternoon. Let's head inside where it's cooler, and we can play quiz bowl right away!". She truly was a sport.
"Of course, there's only a few buzzers, so you will have to pick a smaller set of your friends to play. Maybe you should ask them a couple questions to pick the best ones." Theurgia winked and grinned.

The group walked into the library, which was a comfortable, well furnished environment near where quizbowl was played.
When they got inside, they tried to be quiet until they got to the part of the library where more noise was tolerated. SirCakez's clunky armor made lots of noise, and gave him a difficult time. After some awkwardness they reached one of the galleries.
"You should quiz eachother on things, to help me decide who to take to play with Theurgia" Isis said.

Alisae decided e would ask SirCakez a question, to give him a chance to feel a bit better. E naturally wanted to ask a question about mythology, since e had that in common with Isis and SirCakez did not.

"SirCakez, you are studying healing and are at the Academy to study it even though your family has all been fighters. So as an easy one, you studied some healing mythology instead of that of war, at least some, right? What is Isis famous for!?!?"

E grabbed Isis by her shoulders and squared her up to present her to him, as though it would jog SirCakez's memory.

"Um.. she's known for..."

Isis tilted her head a bit. It didn't hurt her ego for SirCakez not to know, but it was surprising. Most people knew.

"There's a book about it row 4e, in the last room," she said, with a warm smile.

"Oh.. I'll go check it out."

SirCakez went to the last room. He ended up enjoying the book and never returning to the group the rest of the afternoon, because he was not highly invested and certainly not part of a conspiracy with theurgia to throw the quizbowl game.

"Huh? Oh. No. No. This is a random pickup thing we're doing after the volleyball game. Then I'm gonna head home probably. It's not like I'm in quiz bowl team."

"Oh, it's pretty much the same. I heard we're getting to use the room because it's a regularly scheduled practice session time and one of the Theurgia's friends is captain of the team. Maybe if you impress her, you'll get invited to join the team! You're so sharp, it'd give you something to focus on, and you'd be stuck with so much less unstructured time."

"No.. nononono! Um, I left the oven on!"

tris dashed out of the library and scurried home with the same nimbleness with which she arrived slightly late for class each day.

Signing the charter for membership in a new afterschool club being established this year was a requirement to being part of Theurgia's conspiracy against Isis, therefore it is clearly the case that tris was

Alisae bit eir lip. They new it was true. E had only been promoted to captain a couple days ago and had only confided in eir dear friend Isis and a couple of her friends. So e wondered how that information was getting around.

E headed home, glad e could at least relax from a taxing game at the academy with some anime

In the quiz bowl room there was only three chairs per team. Isis realized only two of her friends could play with her.

"Isis! Theurgia is probably going to ask a lot of questions about sports. I'm friends with her, I know what she'd do. You should pick me to be on the quiz bowl team, I will know the answers. If you'd picked me for volleyball we would have won?"
She gave Isis an optimistic smile.
"PookyTheMagicalBear knows a lot too. You should pick him"
Isis assented.
The three settled into their chairs and setup their buzzers. Each team answered about eight questions, mostly Isis. Infinity 324 and PookyTheMagicalBear each answered one, but wrong. Sports wasn't seeming to come up though.

There was one last question.

"The number cauldron brewing elements, the number of pieces of megazord, and the number of spots on an enchanted East Woodland mushroom cap are all the same number. What is that number?"
Isis conferred with her friends, hoping for information about it. They did not seem to know. They mulled over the answer.
Andresvmb thought about megazord and reflexively examined the activation watch on his wrist with a diagram.
He saw Theurgia looking at him closely. Suddenly, he realized she was examining the reflection on his visor. He hurried to cover it with his other hand, because he dearly wanted Isis to win at the quiz bowl. Not it was too late.

Theurgia buzzed in.

"Five!
It's five!"

It was always five. The same number of truly loyal friends Isis should have brought to her volleyball game.

Isis congratulated Theurgia for winning humbly. She was a little bit sorrowful, she had thought maybe quiz bowl would be a good club to join this year, but even with the help of friends she couldn't beat someone who only dabbled in it. Maybe it wasn't for her.

There were other clubs, with other possibilities. Doors close and open.

She made it home in time to work on her homework that day.
