or even discuss guesses

This is correct, specifically the discussing guesses bit.

So, in no particular order, we have:

HORSE - Thatchers (not Margaret Thatcher) work with hay; horses eat hay (?).
MILLIONAIRE - Margaret Thatcher was a politician; politicians are usually rich; ergo Margaret Thatcher is probably rich.
FILM - Margaret Thatcher was famous; famous people have films made about them; ergo, Margaret Thatcher is probably the subject of a film.
LOCH NESS - Loch Ness is part of Scotland, which is part of the UK; Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister of the UK.
PANTS - Margaret Thatcher was known for wearing pantsuits.
CAT - a cat in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is known by a diminutive form of Margaret, in reference to Margaret Thatcher.

Things I'd like to know:

1) Was Margaret Thatcher really rich? If so, MILLIONAIRE looks a lot better.
2) Are there any movies about Margaret Thatcher? If so, FILM looks a lot better.
3) Given the "Iron Lady" reference, what was Margaret Thatcher's reputation like? Was she considered a monster, of any sort (even if just by her political opposition)? If so, LOCH NESS looks even better.
4) How prevalent were the pantsuits?

My current inclination is LOCH NESS > Pass.

Thatcher is generally considered to be a notably terrible politician; when she died they played "Ding Dong The Witch is Dead" on the radio. Not the level of "history's greatest monster" but not beloved by anybody but hardline conservatives, as I understand it. I don't know that she was notably rich; I *feel* like she had a film in the last few years but I am not at all confident in that.

I second the vote for LOCH NESS but will defer to anybody with actual knowledge of British politics in the 80s.

I know for a fact that a biopic was made about her so film may be a really good guess. I don’t recall if she was ever compared to the loch ness monster. Doesn’t ring a bell. I’d go with film next.

There’s also a politician named Colin Thatcher and of course film actor Colin Firth.

Ooh. That's another possibility. PM is in charge of Parliament, I think ... which I think is where bills come from? House of Commons, house of Lords ... and we're running into the limits of my knowledge of British politics.

That means we can safely assume his knowledge of British politics is much greater than mine.

Unfortunately, don't think that changes much from where we are right now? Other than maybe, if Margaret Thatcher was generally disliked by the British public, and Not_Mafia *is* a member of the British public, odds are higher that Not_Mafia holds a general dislike for Margaret Thatcher, and thus might associate her with a monster, making LOCH NESS a better guess?

Or that he'd be more likely to come up with associations about Margaret Thatcher in general, and thus considering clues like HORSE is probably the wrong direction?

I mean it’s possible but I don’t recall ever hearing her explicitly called that. Witch I can se but idk about loch ness. I just think it should be a lot more obvious to me.

I definitely know there was a film made about her and if it was British, perhaps, Colin Firth played in it?

There is definitely a politician called Colin Thatcher so maybe Loch ness could. possibly refer to him?

Yeah, if it were just the Loch Ness Monster connection, I'd be pretty iffy about that too. But there's also the "Loch Ness is in Scotland, which is part of the UK" connection.

Haven't heard of Colin Thatcher. Also British?

I think so? but not sure. He was definitely a politician though. I think he wasn’t a good guy but still don’t recall “loch ness monster being used to describe him either.

I’d go with bill and film because politicians make bills and there was definitely a famous film made about Margaret Thatcher.

I'm honestly not sure. I think so, but I can't construct much of a logic chain to prove it.

Bills of attainder were a thing around the time of the US Revolution. If those were a thing then, then at least at some point in history it'd seem logical that "bills" would be something Parliament would handle?

If both you and StrangerCoug are still favoring LOCH NESS over BILL, I won't push it too far. I think they're both good candidates.
