Rules:
In-Game Behavior
1.
Site Rules are in effect. Please familiarize yourself and follow them.
2. Posts consisting purely of insults without game content are not tolerated. I penalize such posts with a strike. Three strikes and you're out. Severe issues will be reported to the listmods.
3. Claiming scum is allowed. Claiming scum with another player (whether as a joke or not) will result in severe consequences for you, and consequences for your team.
4. Play towards your win condition. Gambits are fine, directly harming your own team is not.
or else they will not be counted. Unvotes are not required to change your vote, but they are helpful. Please note: I'm using an automated vote counter.
If you don't use the vote tags, be sure to add a colon after the word "Vote".
2. Votes inside of spoiler tags will not be counted.
3. I don't mind if you use nicknames/abbreviations when you vote someone. But if I have no idea who you're voting for, then the vote won't be counted. Please note: the vote counting application may be more finicky about nicknames than I am. If you notice that your vote hasn't been recorded, please let me know.
4. Eliminations require a majority of votes: (number of living players/2) +1, rounded down.
5. If there's no majority at deadline, there's no elimination.
6. When the hammer vote is cast, all players, including the eliminated may talk freely until the final vote count and eliminated player's card-flip have been posted. If the thread is not locked, it's ok for you to post.
6. Once you are dead, you may not post in the game thread again. No"Bah" posts.
7. Deadlines are set at 10 days. Extensions may be granted if there are replacements near deadline, or under other extraordinary circumstances (e.g., site outages, major holidays).
8. Nights will last 48+ hours, rounded up to the nearest midnight or noon US Eastern Time.
Prods and Replacements:
1. Prods will be given if you do not post in
48 hours
.
2. You will be replaced if you either do not respond to a prod, or (at my discretion) if you need to be prodded more than 3 times total. You may request for a player to be prodded at any time. Prods requested when a player has been absent for less than 48 hours do not count for replacement purposes.
3. If you are V/LA (on vacation/have limited access), make sure I know. If you are V/LA for more than a week, I suggest requesting replacement, but it's not required, unless you are not able to post at all. If a lengthy V/LA is adversely affecting the game (e.g., if you are not able to post minimally during that time), then I may replace you without penalty.
Misc.
1. Dark Blue (#004080) is the color I will use for mod posts. Please don’t use this color or otherwise try to make your posts look like mod posts.
2. You can talk about the game in the private threads given to you via PM, assuming you were given one. Otherwise, please refrain from talking about this game outside of this thread, and don't talk about other games inside of this game. This is a sitewide rule. See announcement here.
3. No editing, deleting, using invisible texts, write in code, using font sizes less than 70, etc...
4. Don't quote or reproduce any mod-received PMs. Your flavor is for you to enjoy and you only, until the end of the game.
5. Vocaroos, Youtubes, etc, may not be used to make game-content posts. e.g., do not record a vacoroo with your thoughts about the game and post it.
6. I make mistakes. If you notice I make one, please let me know.
7. Questions are vastly preferable to Modkills. If you're thinking about to do something that you're unsure is within the letter or spirit of these rules and the game of mafia, then ask me privately about it first.

You remember like it's yesterday, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lake Phantasia Tarot Theme Park. It was sunny and breezy, perfect weather for an all day summer outing. The entire city council, armed with spades, turned over shovel-fulls of sandy soil and traded congratulatory elbow-bumps. A brass band played Dixieland jazz, and there were even carnival-style booths for kite-making and face painting (well, forehead painting -- we were all masked-up that day, and the ceremony had nearly not happened at all, given the guidelines about large outdoor crowds last year). Coronavirus notwithstanding, every psychic within 50 miles showed up to do assorted readings and there was even a lecture by an occult expert on the meaning of the Major Arcana card journey -- something like that. You hadn't paid all that much attention. Whatever the divinatory means, the psychics had accurately predicted there wouldn't be an outbreak traced to the ceremony.
Today, nearly a year later, several attractions are at or near completion and nearly ready to be unveiled.
The inspiration behind the theme park, Lucia Tavella, daughter of a former mayor and philanthropist, went on a gap-year tour of Europe in 2019 and was inspired by a theme park in Italy. She plans to be on hand for the festivities as the theme park readies for a grand opening.
Even though the construction project has been fairly straightforward and incident-free, there are still quite a few residents and businesses who oppose the entire idea of a theme park in our lovely city. Reasons for opposition vary, and some unlikely alliances have formed. Conservative religious groups, country club members, former factory workers and even the goofy golf and waterslide park owners have been less than thrilled about having a Tarot-themed amusement park in their back yards.
Be that as it may, the Tarot Park is nearly ready to open for business, and you can't wait for the gates to open!

The first attraction of the Lake Phantasia Tarot Theme Park is nearly ready to reveal! Lucia Tavella appears from the crowd and walks up to the podium. She taps the mic and asks "Can you hear me?" The low roar of assent is her signal to begin.
"Thank you so much for coming out today! I'm as excited as you are to see the cards that inspired the first attraction to be completed."
She turns away from the audience and grasps the heavy velvet cloth covering a huge poster. With a quick pull, a photo is revealed.
"Oh this is interesting!
Judgment, supported by The High Priestess and The World.
Judgment indicates an awakening from an ego-driven mindset; A new beginning is at hand, but requires accounting for past offenses; if transgressions are buried, they will be exposed. And the conscious decision to change one's ways from bad past patterns.
The High Priestess is about Unlocking intuitive knowledge; synthesizing unconscious and conscious thoughts; profound insight into complex situations and deep mysteries.
And The World suggests the successful culmination of hard work and persistent effort; celebrating the fulfillment of ambitions; build small achievements into a tremendous victory.
These are great portents for the Theme Park!"
Scattered applause starts and builds to a crescendo. Lucia gestures for quiet. "A new beginning is at hand indeed! And as we have all become aware, not everyone in Lake Phantasia is as happy about this project as we are. But, The World suggests that success is at hand!"
Lucia gestures to another fabric-shrouded poster. "And here it is!" She reveals the poster:
The photo under the fabric covering is kaleidoscopically confusing. You're not sure what it is supposed to be. Nevertheless, you cheer and clap!

It's time to reveal the second attraction of the Lake Phantasia Tarot Theme Park! Lucia Tavella is back at the podium in front of another huge velvet-covered poster. "Are you as excited as I am? I can't wait to see what the next attraction will be!"
With a quick pull, the velvet falls and the poster is revealed.
"Wow! The High Priestess supported by The Lovers and The Wheel of Fortune!
The High Priestess suggests that we're going to unlock our intuition, and develop profound insight into complex situations and deep mysteries.
The Lovers indicate that two distinct and dynamic forces will come together in harmony, merge and form a new and unique entity. Love will flourish by embracing and celebrating differences.
And The Wheel of Fortune hints that a constant rotation of luck and misfortune are simply the nature of the cycle of life. Despite the sometimes dizzying changes in fortune, it's still up to us to create our own destinies, and not be mere victims of circumstance.
It sounds like we might be in for some stormy weather, but with insight and harmony we shall overcome!"
The applause starts, but is quickly hushed when the poster falls off its huge easel, revealing another image.
"What's this? Two attraction are opening today?"
Lucia pauses and studies the newly revealed image
"These cards are...interesting.
The Fool is an invitation to abandon our inhibitions and fears and begin creating creating our own unique path through life, even if that path takes us far off the beaten path. Exploring our dreams lets us explore our own boundless potential. We're encouraged to pursue our inspired dreams without waiting around to study, gain competence or expertise first. It may look absurd from the outside, but we should have faith in abilities that we haven't discovered or explored. We'll learn all we need, and more, along the way.
Death suggests the an abrupt conclusion to one aspect of life, and the start of another. Death isn't the end, it's metamorphosis in a cycle of continuous change. This change is inevitable and permanent. There's no going back!
The Devil warns that we're our own worst enemy, our biggest roadblock. We want to blame our situation on outside forces, but the Devel is our own ego, and it tries to restrict our minds through false limitations. If we're imprisoned, it's a prison formed by our own thoughts. There is no outside help for this. We alone posses the power to break the mental chains we've locked ourselves into."
Lucia frowns. "Although we're embarking on a joyous, freewheeling journey, we carry within ourselves the seeds of destruction that could set us back and frighten us into a return to the ways of old which so exacerbated this last year and a half since the Pandemic began. But, change has already happened, and there's no true going back. The horrifying price of business as usual -- those false limitations -- is far to high to pay again."
She's pensive, and that uncertainty infects you as you watch her move to the 2nd velvet-covered poster. "I'm not sure I want to see this, to be honest! Oh well, we must push on!"
"That's not so bad! I wonder what sorts of attractions these will be?"
The applause starts slowly, and gathers strength, though you look back at the six revealed cards with some trepidation.

The stage is set to reveal the next attraction! Two big posters, covered in swaths of velvet, are propped up on either side of the podium, and Lucia Tavella is here for it!
"We meet again! I'm so excited to see what's next! How about you?"
She points the mic toward the crowd, and you yell, "Whooooooooooooo!".
The velvet falls away from the first poster
"Will you look at this! All Minor Arcana. Some people think these cards are less impressive than the majors, but I disagree. All the suits and the majors come together in five entwined stories, forging a greater whole.
The Six of Wands, supported by the Four of Swords and the Eight of Pentacles.
The Six of Wands is a celebration of the glorious results of education and personal development. Leaving behind old philosophies that don't support you. Disciplined effort reaps great rewards, and there could be a breakthrough or revelation at hand (through your hard work) that changes everything about how you see yourself and the world.
The Four of Swords is about burying oneself in thought and contemplation in a peaceful environment. True mental clarity can most easily be achieved through isolation and the removal of distractions. When you're tired, frazzled and aren't sure what to do next, sometimes a break from it all makes things sharp and clear once again. This card can also sometimes suggest a form of banishment, or self-banishment. If so, then this is the perfect time to ponder what the purpose of one's existence is.
The Eight of Pentacles represents some of the character traits one needs in order to produce the very best in life. Like the worker on this card, are you willing to grind without rest until your project is complete? Fully concentrate on the task at hand, focus on the details, and be patient and persistent until you achieve the flawless results you crave.
I think this project is going to WORK!"
Applause rises quickly across the crowd, and Lucia smiles, waiting for the noise to calm. "This truly is a roadmap to success. We learn and improve, we take the time away from all the bustle to achieve a clarity of goal and purpose, and we put the work in, put the attention to detail in, and we make the perfect result with our own hands and through our own effort"
Lucia pulls the velvet shroud down from the second poster.
It's another kaleidoscopic image; it appears to be a prismatic mirrored room with a large bed and nearby chairs. Lucia smiles with excitement, "Perhaps this suite is where we're meant to retreat for thought and contemplation!"

Thanks to everyone for playing! Although this game's design wasn't fully exercised (I feel so bad for Lukewarm in particular!), I really enjoyed working with your card picks and creating the flavor and design for this game.

This may have worked out for the best (for me, anyway). I got a 2 am call this morning about my grandmother passing away. It was expected, but I'm probably not going to be in shape for mafia games for a few days.
