I want to know if there is a schedule for your releases of submissions for the task, or if it will be dripped-and-drabbed out more or less at random for days, and also why it isn't just dropped in as a big ol chunk of stuff like the others, cause that's real weird to me.

This is what I was asking. I had gathered that individual tasks/rounds were going to be separate, but you only revealed two submissions of the ones sent in, and I was unclear on the timeline of those.

For a moment after reading this, I was going to say something along the lines of "see how this capitalist rube squanders our labor, comrades!" and suggest the WALRUSMASTER participants unionize. Buuuut I don't want to unintentionally discourage you with a good natured joke, which may or may not actually be a risk but I am the person who ruins everything that sorta way unless I actively stop myself, so.

I am posting about posting about it because I still find the idea of a bunch of fools on a forum about internet Mafia unionizing for a non-Mafia forum game they chose to be in REALLY REALLY funny, and would feel bad if I didn't share.

If there's a song meant to resonate with the youth of today, it would be that Papa Roach reload(?). I submit that Astro Rain is just that same general approach, but made timeless IN ADDITION to being very very much in line with stuff made for those damned kids. Last Resort Reloaded will lose play quickly enough, but those who listen to Astro Rain now will listen to Astro Rain tomorrow too, and thereby perpetuate the cycle of auto-tune and bounce riffs.

Oh yeah and I almost forgot that the song is, I cannot stress this enough, VERY MUCH ABOUT VAMPIRES. Twilight is out of favor these days, but mark my words, given the relative density of vampire romance fiction before and during Twilight and its popularity with the youth, there'll be a new one here soon, and the song will then be both current and timeless in ALL facets.

Parental Advisory warnings backfired so hard. Everyone saw them as a sign of the music being "real". It was a sort of proto-anti-capitalist cool; "The Man thinks this will keep you away from your Degenerate Noise and get you listening to Wholesome Family Nonsense! Fuck that! These guys are too cool to compromise for money. It's real art."

I remember some punk album or another came out without a Parental Advisory label on it because it was a concept album, would've been about 01 or 02, and no one even listened to it because of that: they just yelled "sell out!" and dismissed it. It was a weird ass time.

In all seriousness, as I recall, the kids who were going to listen to that had parents that didn't give a shit so long as it meant they didn't have to deal with their own human larvae. Who remembers getting M-rated games at the age of 12? Watching R-rated horror films before puberty?

The real surprise isn't that the stickers were useless, but that they were a selling point. What really did the bands that'd get those stickers dirty was Wal-Mart refusing to carry albums with the stickers.

When I was a kid you didn't even get the spiel. I was 13 or so and just decided one day "I want to get Quake 3 Arena," and I went to the local Staples on the bus and bought it there. Two other games I got with it: Diablo 2 Battle Chest (on sale! 10 bucks! deal!) and Project Eden (if you don't know it, please go find it -- it was REALLY good). I bought Silent Hill 2 and Black for the PS2, parent present, and the employee just asked my mom which one of the games was for her (answer: neither, but she'll play them both anyway!)

Yes. I am trying to manipulate shaft.ed into relistening and rescoring my submission on the basis of "you're in the right age group actually and it should have worked, my submission should not be liable for your personal shortcomings if I take age and what little knowledge I have of personality into account".

If it helps: I don't really watch TV either. I've watched maybe 4? series in my entire life, and only two of them all the way through. Twin Peaks and Burn Notice are the only ones that I think anyone knows. (The other two are Helix and Residue. It's a crime Residue wasn't put into full production, by the way, the fucked up dime-store-cyberpunk vibes were immaculate.)

I treated it as an opportunity to invent a TV show I'd WANT to watch.

Wow. That was a bold choice, Davsto. I would not have had the guts, myself. Certainly I don't understand the why of submitting that, and I actually like that album. (Personally, I think it's good sleeping music. At a low volume it also works to set up a nice, meditative ambience in a small echoing room. I just don't get much body movement out of it.)

If what I submitted isn't acceptable, I don't have anything to offer here. I tend to weird, experimental music, almost all of which is elaborately arranged over the course of years by a single songwriter, or else performed by a full band. Therefore, I am prepared to dig in my heels and be blatantly, aggressively wrong in public about this until such time as either my submission becomes acceptable or they kill me.

Yeah, it's not meant to be driving. It's part of a meditation music compilation series assembled by Bill Laswell (yeah, the dude from Material), the Asana series. The compilation explores electronic music with a specific chillout aesthetic being blended with traditional Hindustani music in various ways. The vocals and the use of the tabla here, other things in other places.

I was going to just pick something with a trumpet (thought I had, in fact) originally -- probably something sampled because more people need to learn about ... well, that would be telling. But yeah, guess I went for this!

Honestly, I just don't like Tenacious D. In fact, I made a vow as a child to avoid any Tenacious D related content for similar reasons to my total avoidance of Star Wars (overbearing fans who judge you for not liking things as much as they do). I've never, to my knowledge, listened to anything Tenacious D, certainly no Tenacious D that I've remembered, and I'm not about to start now.

In light of my self-imposed restriction here, I considered asking for outside help, but I decided that might be against the spirit of the WALRUSMASTER. In the end, soon, I'll probably just put my entire library on shuffle, skip a dozen times, and send whatever comes out the other side. Who knows what you'll get? Who knows what will happen? Not me, I have no idea. Then again, I might decide to make my decision based on the Wikipedia page of the band, or reviews of the song I find on Google. My restriction is on their own content, not content about them, right? We'll see what I do.

Probably both. I haven't heard it so much since leaving school, but from about 2004 to 2010 in suburban Western PA, it was inescapable... but the lack of people bothering me about it now won't change my mind.

Also, a small part of this is it's REALLY funny to be very opinionated about never experiencing something popular (without making any value judgements about that thing in the process) to the point it creates a minor artificial barrier to media literacy and socializing with others. Also, like, at any point someone could choose to break my streak of never having seen a Star Wars film, or heard Tenacious D, or anything else. But they all respect my incredibly silly decision to avoid popular media like it will strike me dead. (Who knows, maybe it will, I've never tried before!)

I find with stuff that has a large hate-following like 100 gecs, it's way funnier to just proclaim you love it and boldly assert that the haters are wrong, no matter how little sense it makes. Some people get so riled up, so incredibly upset if you like 100 gecs, it's like you personally insulted their friends and/or family, and getting this response while saying things like "are you kidding, Carcass never had blastbeats like 100 gecs, The Berzerker could barely play that fast" with your face hanging out in public and everything is unrivaled hilarity. Best of all, you don't need to listen to it to do this, since it's just blanket denial of everything people say bad about this band, so you can just go back to your existing avoidance if you get bored.

I learned this strategy while defending my love of nu metal.
