GAME RULES

(Inspired by/stolen from Plotinus's, Datisi's, northsidegal's, and lilith2013's rulesets.)

THE RUNDOWN

♦ Day 1: 12 days, Day 2+: 7 days, Night: 48 hours
♦ 48 hours before prod, 24 hours before replacement. 3 prods will result in force-replacement
♦ A weekend counts as 24 hours
♦ Majority eliminates
♦ You get 1 'bah' post after death, free of game-related content
♦ Don’t be a dick

General

1. Follow all site rules.
   
2. This is a heated game but toxicity will not be tolerated. Attack the play not the player. If your fellow players tell you to stop, you must stop. If you do not stop, I will tell you to stop. If you still do not stop, you will be force-replaced. Asking people to stop voting you or to stop scumhunting you entirely doesn't count for this rule though you may find yourself eliminated if you try it.
   
3. Don't talk about ongoing games. You may not talk about this game outside of threads I have created for this purpose. You may not talk about other ongoing games in this thread.
   
4. Do not use tiny text.
   
5. Provable randomness is against the rules. Saying that you rolled a dice is fine, provably doing so using dice tags or random.org is not.
   
6. Cryptography and hidden text is forbidden. Breadcrumbing is okay.
   
7. Claiming scum by yourself is fine. Claiming scum with another player is against the rules.
   
8. You may not quote (or copy paste) any private information into the thread, including your role PM and any mod communication.
   
9. You may submit night actions via PM or PT.
   
10. Play to your wincon.
    
11. You have about
    48 hours
    to confirm your role and your alignment by PM. Game will start sooner if enough people confirm. Posting in a private topic counts as confirmation.
    
12. If you'd like a personal PT for notes, please PM me.

Deadlines

1. 1. Day 1 lasts
   12 days
   and each day after lasts
   7 days
   . Extensions may be granted if there are replacements, or if the majority of players make it clear to me that an extension is desired.
   2. Night lasts at least
   48 hours
   . The night phase can be shortened if every living player -- even those with no night actions -- agrees to it and if I'm not busy.

Voting

1. Votes must be in bold in the format VOTE: redtea or Vote: redtea. Strong preference for using vote tags instead of bold tags. Unvotes are nice but not required. If I think it’s a vote, it’s a vote, no tricks. Type VOTE: redtea to vote and UNVOTE: redtea to unvote. This game also utilizes the HEAL: and HURT: tags. Again, strong preference for using the proper tags.
   
2. Twilight begins when an elimination has been confirmed or a majority of players voted for no elimination, and lasts until I lock the thread. You're still alive until I flip you so you can talk in any game threads you have access to until then, but no votes or unvotes will be counted.

Activity

1. You must post at least once every
   48 hours
   or I will Prod you. You then have
   24 hours
   to post in the game thread or I will replace you. If you come back before I find a replacement, you can stay. The activity timers run at half-speed on weekends. Players can request me to prod somebody early. This will only count as an official prod if you don't post before you would have been due for a prod.
   
2. If you anticipate being unavailable for more than
   48 hours
   , you should declare V/LA in bold in the thread like this:
   @Mod: I will be v/la until Thursday
   .
   
3. I reserve the right to force replace players who need extensively long V/LA at my own discretion.
   
4. A naked "prod dodge" does not reset the prod timer. To avoid being prodded/replaced for inactivity, include some game advancing content in your prodges, such as "got prodded; xxxx is still scum."

Mechanics

• Scum have Daytalk.
  
• Day start.
  
• On Day 1, each player may propose a Coalition of five players (and may change their mind about this as often as they like, until a Coalition is locked in).
  
• A majority Coalition is agreed upon when at least five players have the same group of five people proposed as a Coalition. At this point, the Coalition is locked in and cannot be changed.
  
• If a Coalition containing scum is locked in, the game continues onto a normal Day 1 as a regular mountainous game at that point (but town have the information that there was at least one scum inside the Coalition); the Coalition mechanic is disabled for the rest of the game.
  
• If a Coalition containing five townies is locked in, town automatically wins.
  
• If no Coalition is formed by the end of Day 1, the game continues as a regular mountainous game. The Coalition mechanic is disabled for the rest of the game.
  
• Votes will be counted, but no elimination goes through until a Coalition is formed.
  
• If there is an elimination vote that has achieved majority when a failed Coalition (a Coalition that contains one scum or more) goes through, the elimination goes through subsequently.
  
• To add a player to your Coalition, use the HEAL: tags. To remove a player from your Coalition, use the HURT: tags.
  
• You may add yourself to your Coalition.
  
• Elimination votes are made as usual.

Flavor

Nine renowned pirate lords sat tense in a damp, dreary hideout breathing candle-smogged air. Close supporters and common hands alike crowded the central table.

The heated argument had died out a while ago, having come to a standstill. Coming to an agreement was proving to be impossible.

Finally, one broke the silence. “Really our biggest issue is nine pirates is simply too rambunctious for a productive meeting.” They collapsed their fan with a click.

“Clearly!” Someone heckled.

Another jiggled their leg. “What if we . . . decided on a smaller group then? Democra’ically? You can’ vote fer yerself more than once, ‘course.”

“Reminds me . . . ,” a rather reserved lord spoke up. They had sat back to let the rest bicker, hoping to win favor with a cool-headed display. Really, they should’ve known better than to expect reason from pirates. “I know we’re, well,” they gestured ‘round the assembled group. “But does the meeting not seem too chaotic, even for us?”

Everyone contemplated the implications; silence took hold in the cave once again.

There was a murmur in the back of the room. Someone whispered, "I don't get it."

"That's why yer not a pirate lord ya goddamn-!"

“Aye,” another lord smacked their knees. “ ‘ow about five? We vote fer five. Then they can figure this mess out. Much more manageable size eh?”

“Five? Seems rather arbitrary.”

“I can’t count lower than five.”

The group hummed and shrugged commiseratingly.

A good a reason as any.

actually I have a question

A rule states "A majority Coalition is agreed upon when at least five players have the

same group

of five people proposed as a Coalition. At this point, the Coalition is locked in and cannot be changed." => this implies coalition votes have to be in tuples of 5s, i.e, 5 people have to vote for the same coalition for it to be locked in

but the way you are handling coalition votes right now is counting individual votes and not tuples

I just want to make sure the coalition is locked in as a tuple of 5 at the same time rather than one coalition member being locked in one after another after reaching 5 votes

Correct, a Coalition will not be locked in until there are 5 identical groups proposed by 5 different players.
Players do not have to propose 5 people all at once, though none will be locked in until the previously stated conditions are met.

Broken glass littered the table and floor. Chairs lay toppled. Noses flared. Spectators poised as if to strike, eyeing each other like poisonous snakes.

The room held its breath.

“Here is my final proposition.” Farren plucked five cards from his hand, then arranged them on the table. Each one depicted a crude drawing of a pirate lord.

ssbm_Kyouko sighed. “Very well.” They laid out an identical set of cards- besides the suspiciously blood-like stains.

Save The Dragons, Nathann, and Pavowski looked at each other.

They leaned in close over their selections.

And grinned.

“Works fer me.”

“Tch. About damn time.”


Eventually, the gangly band of pirates shuffled and staggered out. Only a few remained, seated: Save The Dragons, cyrus62, Pavowski, Nathann, and Farren.

cyrus62 looked rather confused to be there, while the rest smiled at him knowingly.

“Don’ look so worried. We’ll get this all figured out, ye?”

It seemed the sun wasn’t ready to set on the Golden Age of Pirates just yet.
