  DAY PHASE RULES:
  
  
• Day phase lasts for 7 days, give or take a small margin. The exception is the first day, lasting 4 days.
  
• Please format your votes as VOTE: Player-Player or
  Vote: Player-Player
  . I would highly appreciate the former. Abbreviations are acceptable, so long as the players in reference are obvious. If I think it counts as a vote, I'll count it.
  
• You are not required to unvote, though it is appreciated.
  
• Days end early when a simple majority of players (50% of living players + 1 rounded down) vote to eliminate a pair. If a majority is not reached at deadline or if a majority of the players vote for no elimination, the day will end without an elimination.
  
• Twilight begins when a majority is reached. It lasts until the thread is locked. Until this point, players may post in any and all game threads that they may have access to; they will have this ability until I arrive to flip them. Votes and unvotes in this phase do not count.
  
• Please post at least once every 48 hours. If you fail to do so, you will be prodded. If you fail to respond to said prod within 24 hours, you will be replaced.
  
• If you get three or more prods, or fail to respond to a prod by posting in thread within 24 hours (or by PM if at Night), I will begin seeking for a replacement (this means the third prod functions like a notice that you are racing the search for your replacement.)
  
  
  NIGHT PHASE RULES:
  
  
• Night phase lasts for 48 hours, give or take a small margin. If everyone votes to do so — actions available or otherwise — via PM, fast nights may be enacted.

GAME SETUP

• The roles in this game are as follows:
  
  
• 6 Warm Knights
  
• 6 Cool Knights
  
• The Rainbow Knight
  
  During Day 1, people will create Palettes, which consists of one Warm and one Cool Knight paired with one another. You may only pair with one other Knight for the entirety of the game. This will continue until there is only one person remaining, who will then be automatically eliminated from the game. Warm Knights may propose to Cool Knights, and Cool Knights may propose to Warm Knights.
  
  I will accept any reasonable variation that indicates you wish to create a Palette with someone, whether it is to propose, ask for a dance, etc. Please make sure to either
  bold
  these requests, or use the VOTE: vote feature to make apparent who you are pairing with.
  
  From here, you will receive access to a PT for your Palette, where you may speak at any time. These PTs will remain open until your death.
  
  From Day 2 onward, you will vote to eliminate a Palette of Knights each day via majority. Within a Palette, a Knight may choose to leave if they wish, and their Palette will exit the game.
  
  The Cult of Achromaticism will receive a nightkill to use Night 2. There will be no other nightkills.
  
  The game will end when, either, the Knights successfully eliminate all Cultists of Achromaticism, or when the Cultists have reached parity. The name 'Cultist' is for flavor purposes; there are no Cult mechanics in this game.
  
  The Rainbow Knight is a special role that will be expanded on upon gamestart.

DAY ONE

The Rainbow Knight’s home manifests itself for one week of every year, with enough room for a table and fifteen chairs settled in the middle of a ballroom. Every color of Hue shines down from the stained glass ceilings, and from the stained glass walls, and the stained glass floors that everyone is careful not to step too harshly on.

There are two seats open at the table, on either end. When everyone eats, they look away and instead at each other, at the bright planes that make up the colors of their skin. Their arms make a light tinkling noise when they meet the table, the same as their forks on their plates.

The Rainbow Knight is the first to speak, their voice as light as the colors rippling over them. For their final week they’ve decided to be Cool. When they move, their very being is made up of blue and green and purple.

“Now, I know this is a little sad, and I know that this is going to be a little sadder, but I’m glad you’re all here.”

“Of course!” cries out Crimson, and Lavender nods their approval.

“We’d not be anywhere else to see you off,” says Chartreuse.

“It’s been an honor to know you!” Azure and Indigo state in unison.

The Rainbow Knight quiets everyone with a wave of their hands, seeing all of the other Knights preparing to pledge their love and respect aloud. “There, there. It will be okay, I know. But I’ve seen you all grow so much over the years, that I know the lands will flourish fourfold until I return one day.”

With a flourish, they stand suddenly. The iridescent cloak clasped around them flies askew, knocking over their wine glass. They do not react at all, save to kick it underneath the table for now.

“But my fellow Knights, we are not here to dwell on my ascension yet. It is a great tradition that we have to undertake, to celebrate the brightness of our colors and land. And for that, we must dance! Create beautiful Palettes as the Knights of old did!”

“There are thirteen of us though, and a Palette cannot hold more than two before turning ugly,” says Marigold, their face twisting in concern.

“Ah, well…” The Rainbow Knight thinks to themselves for a moment, and then shrugs. “One of us will have to be a good sport, then, and sit this one out!”

So, people have wrongly determined that I’m scum. So, I will give final reads and meme and hope I’m wrong about Magenta.

Beige and Azure are townlocks. I’m having doubts on Chartreuse, they may possibly be scum.

Crimson is town who will kick themselves after I flip.

If I were actually scum here, I would play this completely differently but obviously since this is an secret alt game, I wouldn’t expect any of you to know that.

I’m suss on Chartreuse for the RNG comment because it’s more likely than not that at least one scum in the paired warm knights.

And then you had Burgundy hating on the warm knights. So I find that really strange.

I don’t see what Magenta has done that makes them town but I suppose it’s possible I’m wrong so my current PoE is in Magenta, Burgundy and Chqrtreuse which is I don’t have extreme confidence in because I usually haven’t fivured out the entire scumteam on D1 and it looks like I won’t get the chance to help solve this game because people are biased against my predecessor and wouldn’t give me a chance, so good luck guys. Rose, I sincerely hope that Magenta is town.

Please err away from using these sorts of statements in game. This will be the only warning issued for this sort of comment, as I don’t want it to veer into more. Thank you.

DAY ONE END

The Knights, as ever, are most punctual when it comes to dancing. It was quite simple: they ask one another, and they pair themselves up into Palettes.

Their colors bleed together beautifully as they begin to dance, but in their haste to see the hues refract and color their glass floor and ceilings, they forget the most important thing.

It’s always The Rainbow Knight who reminds them with a tinkling clap of the hands, gentle to not shatter. “My Knights, let us not honor our friend who has so graciously let us dance in the most beautiful of Palettes! Knight Magenta, you have a good heart to let us be. But you know you’re not allowed to stay without a partner. It’s how we’ve always done things.”

Knight Magenta nods, and the color in their paned face drains away. “I know, and I am quite sad, and quite hurt that I might not see you off, but as a Knight I cannot slack. To my home I’ll go, and I’ll speak of how pretty your home is, and how nicely you treated us all.”

For they were not allowed to touch now that they had formed Palettes, The Rainbow Knight nods from a distance. “I appreciate you, my most dearest of Knights. We’ll dance well into the night and speak well of you!”

And what better way to dismiss someone? With a little flick of their hands, The Rainbow Knight urges them away. And so Knight Magenta leaves the hall, heading home to their lively, kinetic lands.

DAY TWO

The night passes quickly, with the Knights dancing and laughing with their new partners. There is no tension in the air, and the colors do not dim even as the sun sets, the stained glass that surrounds them dull and lifeless. The determination to celebrate leaves a happy glow with each footstep.

Eventually, though, the sun peeks over the horizon and every Knight at once stops their conversation to admire it, and to bask in the warmth it brings to their paned bodies in the places their bright armor does not cover. It is a luxurious feeling, to feel sunlight seep into their very beings.

The Rainbow Knight interrupts this with a clearing over their throat, though, and a gasp ripples through the remaining Knights -- even far away, Knight Magenta feels their shock at this rude gesture.

“Now, I have some terrible news, and I hope you will forgive me for lying in my last week with you all, but I know that some of you are lying, too.” The Rainbow Knight’s face is more solemn than anyone’s ever seen. “I know that the Cult we have fought so bravely against has even now snuck in, into your hearts. And I wish you trusted me enough to not turn on me for a colorless world, but I cannot change that now. There is only what I can do to stop you from ruining my lands, and the lands of your fellow Knights, if you will not come forward.”

They reach towards their side, and pull away a small hammer. Fear reflects in every expression of the crowd, and they huddle towards their Palette-partner.

“You wish to shatter us?” Knight Seafoam gasps. “You know that cannot be undone! Once you have broken into one of us, you cannot put us back together again!”

“And if you shatter one part of a Palette, the other cannot go on! Their colors will no longer be complete, and you will have to break them too!” Knight Azure cries. “You cannot do this to us!”

“Oh, I wish I did not have to do this, but I see no other option,” laments The Rainbow Knight. “But what is the saying? Cracking eggs to make omelettes? Well, I suppose it is morning, and it is time for breakfast. So we must do this now, and hope to bleed out any of the Greyscale that’s inside the Cultists among us, and then we may dance once more!”

DAY TWO END

As soon as The Rainbow Knight speaks, Knight Azure raises one blue hand. “I believe that I know who might be a Cultist, and I believe it to be Knight Burgundy. Their dancing has no spirit, their conversation no joy for your ascension! Only a sadness that I cannot place, but we know that this is a happy time for us all.”

“That is untrue!” gasps Knight Burgundy. “There is no one who cares more about The Rainbow Knight’s departure than I, and it is you who has no grace nor any passion in how they move, Knight Azure! Why, I believe it to be you!”

The Rainbow Knight holds out their free hand to silence them both. “Now, if you are both brave Knights that I might trust, and these accusations in your heart are true, there is only one way to settle this, and we both know what is to come.”

There is a pause, and then Knight Azure extends a trembling hand. “It is unbecoming of me to be afraid of this, but I shall offer you my life.”

“And we shall remember you well, brave Knight, unless you are filled with evil.”

The hammer swings down neatly, and the crowd chokes back sobs as Knight Azure’s hand shatters and falls to the ground. Immediately, a viscous ooze appears from the hole now left, as blue as the sky. It drips down onto the shards of what was the Knight’s hand.

“Oh no, my brave Knight! You were only speaking truth, were you not?” The Rainbow Knight sighs, their face contorting in agony.

“They were innocent! We must not let this pass without justice!” calls out Knight Rose!

“Oh, no, we shall not. Now, Knight Burgundy, you cannot exist now without Azure,” who then fell to the ground and shattered with a terrible clamor, but The Rainbow Knight spoke louder, their conviction overcoming, “and we cannot let your Palette be of one color. It pains me to know a dearest friend would turn to the Cult, but now you will be free from their orderly clutches.”

The hammer swings through their shoulder, and Knight Burgundy’s arm cracks and falls in pieces. They are quicker to stumble, the blow far more fatal to a fragile Knight. The colors within them are dark in color, but they were neither black nor grey from inspection.

“Neither of them were evil...” whispers Knight Daffodil.

The Rainbow Knight is at a loss for a moment, and their arm falls to their side. The hammer has no trace of color on it, but they tilt their hand to hide it away from everyone else, as if they were suddenly ashamed to have killed two Knights.

“No, they were not. And we cannot let this happen again, so we must work harder now for them to find those who are truly evil. We must dance more, and speak more, and find the root of this horrible corruption!”

DAY THREE

When the sun falls again, all of the Knights scatter into their Palettes once more, the brightness glowing from their connection enough to illuminate the large, colorful room. Unable to leave for fear of breaking tradition, they stare at each other with suspicious eyes.

However, it is not in the nature of a Knight to linger in one place for too long. They are colorful things, drawn to motion, to life, to the chaos that controls them. And talking is good, and dancing better, but even then it cannot satiate the itch that is life flowing through them, eager for new experiences and beautiful sights.

So, when the conversations dwindle, and the music they hum dies down, they drift away from their Palettes (briefly, for the ache of separation settles in fast) and move towards the center table. The food of Knights never rots, and is made from the most delicious ingredients of every
single land. It is tempting and rich, and everything that a Knight luxuriates in.

Like moths to a flame, a Palette went. Smart, they thought, to not wander so far from one another. But in the low lights, it was hard to make out the Cultists when they chose to snuff out the glow within them, dropping the masquerade of color to strike.

It is a horrible noise that fills the hall, loud and tinkling. The sun rises on the sight of broken seafoam-and-marigold shards, their essence spreading out on the floor.

The Knights find themselves speechless, for once muted from their dramatics. No one, before, cleaned the shards of Azure nor Burgundy and now it looked more like a battlefield than a celebration.

“Well, we must do something about this,” says The Rainbow Knight wearily. They have not dropped their hammer since the day before. “Let us find the evil that slinks about us, and remove it.”

[Ydrasse]

DAY THREE ENDS

Their conversations erupting from the sight of their fallen Knights strewn about their feet, it takes hours to come to a conclusion.

Brave Knight Chartreuse steps forward, the midday light shining through their raised green hand. “I have thought long and hard about this, and it is a frightening thing, but we all felt our hope fade. I could not bear it to do nothing, and so for the sake of us all I am willing to be broken by your strikes.”

Knight Beige reaches out to grab their arm, fingers tense. “But I shall die alongside you! There is nothing but life within my heart, and to have it taken is cruel, Knight Chartreuse.”

“Well, it is sad, terribly, but we have seen the others before us show courage. And I find it inspiring, especially in the wake of Knight Marigold and Knight Seafoam. They did not ask to be broken as they were, and I can think of no other fate as worse as theirs. So, might I break, and might you break and spill out your evil soul, perhaps I can be happy with this fate.”

Murmurs from the few remaining Knights fill the room, their sympathies and fears shining through. No one steps forward to stop them, nor to volunteer their own bodies. The Rainbow Knight, then, sighs heavily and steps forward to Chartreuse.

“You are very brave, and for that I shall make this quick, and I shall make it so you will not suffer. It might hurt, but I hope it will not. And we shall remember you and the colors of your Palette well, my friend.”

The swing, then, comes before any answer. Sharp and fast, it shatters through Knight Chartreuse’s body from shoulder to hip. Within is the brightest part of the fallen Knight, life essence that drips down to the ground as their form falls.

“Well, then... I have faith in our fellow Knight to have known you well, Knight Beige. And if they did not, I am sorry all the same.”

“No!” The call is loud and desperate, and Knight Beige’s hand flies up as if to protect the fragile parts of their body. “Palettes be damned, I can survive without them! My colors are still as strong as ever!”

“We cannot break tradition, and we must root out this evil,” says The Rainbow Knight. And from their experience, and their wisdom, and their ability above all, they are fast enough to dodge what is a shockingly quick strike from Knight Beige. The noise of hammer on glass is deafening as their arm falls and breaks.

Every Knight gasps at once; what drips from Knight Beige is not the pleasantly mild color they expected, but a disgustingly gray mess that has no light nor heart to it. The hand that they still have grips on the back of a chair to support themselves, but in the end they cannot find the strength to stand.

“They were a Cultist…” whispers Knight Indigo, looking around at their fellow Knights. “And we have killed them now.”

DAY FOUR ENDS

With so few left, what was once a chorus of joy was little more than a whispered dirge spread thinly through the hall, the Knights quiet yet intense as they debate.

It goes for hours, each arguing their case, eyes careful not to look down. The floor is a bright, disgusting mess: here there is Knight Seafoam, and there Knight Burgundy, new Palettes forming only in their shattering. It sticks to the Knights when they accidentally brush against it, coating the undersides of their boots; the trails that follow their crowd now are as vivid as The Rainbow Knight themself.

And it is, in fact, The Rainbow Knight who raises their hand after enough fight between two of their Knights, frustration apparent from the taut grip around their hammer. “My Knights, I love you all so dearly, and so I know that there must be more from you all, a better sense of who has turned against me in this week before my Ascension. How have we not found them?”

Knight Daffodil shifts uncomfortably from foot to foot, unable to look at them. “We’re trying. I know it is an honorable thing, to Ascend and swallow the sun anew, and that you are being robbed of your celebrations, but we are all trying. And perhaps it is you who…”

Their voice trails off. Quiet settles for a moment, and then Knight Daffodil raises their voice again.

“You have broken so many of us, and yet you have not offered yourself, as a true Knight would. We have shattered for you, and you do not cry nor do you mourn. I believe it… best, perhaps, if our Palette is tested for the purity of our hearts.”

“That is ridiculous! Without me, the sun will cease to rise and endless day will come for our lands! Everything will be thrown askew!”

The Knights look at each other, and then The Rainbow Knight, whose words ring hollow in their ears, for what Knight would not want for endless day in the deepest portions of themselves? Endless light and color -- that which they were denied, and The Rainbow Knight did not see the temptation.

“I do not have a hammer, but I think I will be leaving now,” says Knight Daffodil, and all of the Knights sigh at once. The Rainbow Knight does not move, knowing the strike will be against their own life, too.

Thankfully, their weapon was not necessary. Sometimes, a hammer is just a hammer. Sometimes, a swing at a stained glass body hits true and ruins the hand that lashes out, and the stomach it aims for.

Knight Daffodil’s essence drips from their twin wounds, as yellow as the namesake of their color. They sway on their feet, but move fast enough to surprise The Rainbow Knight, whose shock at their own life and Palette being ruined moves not.

Turning the hammer on its owner proves easily, and The Rainbow Knight falls to pieces quickly. Inside is not a riot of color, but the absence of it. Black sludge coalesces in an oily puddle around their body.

The four remaining Knights look at each other with horror.

“The sun,” says Knight Crimson.

“The lands of Hue,” murmurs Knight Rose.

“Endless day…”

“Endless light…”

The four Knights, their thoughts so similar, look at one another. And then the hammer which now rests on the floor beneath them, once so beautiful.

It is not known who speaks now; perhaps all, perhaps none.

“Let us finish what we have started.”

DAY FIVE ENDS

The tension within the room nearly shatters the four Knights without a raised hand to do it for them. There is no trust left within them as they stand, Palette to Palette, and converse among themselves.

It does not take long for their words to turn bitter, harsh in the attempts to defend Hue -- for a true Knight would not wish for survival for survival’s sake, if it meant the loss of color and joy within their homelands.

The Rainbow Knight, were they alive, would call it a shameful display lacking any respect nor chivalry. Knight Rose points this out, and that is the low blow that forces Knight Indigo’s hand.

“I shall break you, and then break myself, and we shall be done with this,” they say swiftly, voice tinted with panic. “And then Hue will be safe.”

No time to react, Knight Rose is reduced to a pink husk on the ground, pinker essence contained within. Knight Indigo stares down at horror at the lack of impurity, their hands stained. With a deep sigh, they stand straighter, and look to the other Palette.

“I’m terribly sorry, but I believe that I must go now,” they say; their voice is gentle, though they are not as gentle with themselves as they reach up to their own shoulder and squeeze harshly. The sound is deafening, the only remaining Palette frozen with the implications.

Or, so was one. Knight Crimson turns slowly to face Knight Lavender. Knight Lavender turns quickly to strike at their neck, severing the last Knight of Hue’s neck. There is sorrow in their face, but it is not for themselves, for their hands reach not to break upon whole glass. Instead, they crouch down to the glassy corpse, looking at the red life essence spilling out -- true blood, where no one else had bled before.

“I am terribly sorry it came to this,” Knight Lavender says mildly, “but you must understand that I had no choice. Perhaps if the others survived, and perhaps if they had not found themselves bound by the horrible rules of these lands, you might have come with us under our watchful eyes. I suppose I’ll have to tell the tale of your bravery until the end, for I am prepared not to die. A Palette, Knight Crimson,” as Knight Lavender pokes fondly at their cold hand, “truly means nothing in the end. The Rainbow Knights before our own knew this. But they died so rarely, what issue would they have with such archaic rules?”

Straightening themselves, Knight Lavender sighs at their fallen comrades. They are not offered the same kindness, but in the expression of the Cultist reflects something stronger than before. Determination, of a twisted sort.

“I’ll handle the sun another time, and come back to collect your shards with the rest. But first, I must stop by Knight Magenta’s lands, and tell them of these terrible times, and how lucky they were to not be trapped within this beautiful hall. Rest well, and perhaps I shall find the time soon to repair you both if your essence hasn’t yet melted away. Glass, after all, can be repaired too.”
It is a horrible sort of nonchalance that grips the final Knight as they finally begin to pick their way from the carnage. Eleven broken bodies left behind, and a twelfth to come. But it is a weight off their shoulders to let the purple hue within them die down into a dull, grey nothingness as they pass through the doorway.

Outside, the sun is harsh and beautiful, but the lands are not the same. Already, the color drains away; the sky in the distance, where Knight Azure once lived, is little more than a misty blue juxtaposed by a riot of magenta.

Perfect, then, for a duel -- or murder, for a Cultist had no honor to stake upon it. This, too, does not phase Knight Lavender as they head deeper into Hue, alone, colorless, triumphant over the chaos of life itself if not for one brief week.
