Random thought, would it be weird to change the tv show/other media rules to be 160 or 180 minutes per point going foward? Atm despite being similar runtimes, watching 4 movies of about 100 minutes each scores less than watching 10 40 minute episodes of a tv show. Not to mention watching a movie like seven samurai would count half as much as watching tv equal to its length.
I get this is a casual thing, and more for just sharing what we watch/opinions on it, but if this is meant to be more of a movie challenge than a media challenge the rules should probably reflect that more than charlie chaplin and shorter animated features always being counted?

I'm not super stoked about changing rules mid-challenge, but you make a good point. I wasn't sure how much interest there would be and I kinda feared restricting it to a more rigid definition of movies might discourage participation.
One of my backup ideas was scoring it as a point per minute. So watching 4 100 minute movies scores the same as 10 40 minute episodes since they both took the same time to watch. What do you think?
Yeah that over granulizes things. Reason I offered the change I did is it only makes people work if they're watching a lot of something not a movie (which can just be a know it when you see it deal that people classify themselves, like maybe 1 thing someone posts about might be controversial and even then it's mostly for fun), and 95% of the time that's a tv show, and since most comedies are 20-30ish minutes and dramas 40-60, should be easy to count vs movies which have highly varying runtimes. Just figured I'd float the idea.
Daniel Alexander Dolphin (D.A.D for short) is a dreamer, much like this is the movie of my dreams. It has everything you could possibly want, an ensemble of colorful characters, not one but TWO villain redemption arcs, one of the best needle drops in film history and a scathing critique of modern capitalistic culture. D.A.D will inspire a new generation of viewers to follow their dreams. You may ask if you want to try it out, but I think this is a answered by a quote from the manta "I also want to taste some". I love you D.A.D. 11/10
On a more serious note, Kublai, if you are just going to do runtime calculations for people rather than taking what they give, you may as well just be like "40 minutes of movies is a point". I'm happy to find runtimes for my stuff btw, like it's a google away and I usually check the runtime anyway. Though I get how that can end up being way too much work for you for people who don't give runtimes.
6) Santa Claus: MST3K version. Season 5 or something
Yeah, I mean....I confirmed through this that I don't actually like MST3K, at least not the version of Mike. The movies are old and slow (since they kind of have to be public domain for the show to work), I only really find a third of the jokes funny, and there's a good portion that feel far too punch downy/out of touch for me. Also the cutaways I just don't find all that much more engaging than the other parts and Mike's vibe just feels all wrong.
The 70's were bonkers, and kinda trash to live through huh? I was thoroughly entertained by this movie but more in a "Ummmm....are you sure about that decision, PTA?" than anything else. There are probably some deeper meanings and themes that can be gotten from it but they all feel stifled by the actual ending.
14) THE Suicide Squad (2021)
Much better choices. Like holy shit this movie is still sooooo good. The characters, the editing, the needle drops, very very happy.
I can't believe all these famous actors robbed a Casino and no one noticed. Pretty good heist film, good editing, the heist is cool and the tension is kept up just enough without being overbearing.
Can't believe this movie stole the plot of FernGully. In all seriousness it's an okayish kids movie with a blatant environmental message, that's about it. Oh, actually, one more thing:

Was a pretty tepid documentary about the GameStop rise from the point of view of the people who actually believed in it from the start. It was pretty fine but it didn't need to be made, felt happy for the protagonists though and there was a moment I found hilarious where it was literally both a literal Hedge Fund Advisor and the early believers ragging on the people from WallStreetBets.
