Setup:
You do not know the number of town/mafia/third parties.
This game runs with a high number of PTs.
All players will be assigned a specific chess piece and a colour at the start of the game- either white or black, in addition to their role and alignment.
The allocation of chess pieces and colours is completely random and independent of alignment/role for knights. For the two pawns, this is not the case.
The board at the start of the game will look like this;
The chessboard mechanics play out in 24 hour cycles, regardless of day phase or night phase. As such, please try to ensure you are able to respond to PMs within a 24 hour period. I will secretly and randomly list players separately for both black pieces and white pieces. As in regular chess, white will move first, and black and white pieces will alternate turns. However, all players control individual pieces. At the start of each 24 hour cycle, I will PM the next player on the list for the active colour (the one whose turn it is). That player can either respond with a legal move for their piece, or pass. In the first case, at the end of the 24 hour cycle I will publicly update the chess board with the move, as well as handling any mechanical consequences of that move. In the second case, nothing will occur, however this will not count as a "turn" and the active colour will not change. If I don't get a response of a legal move, the action will default to pass. If you do not know what moves you are able to make, I am happy to provide you with all your legal moves in a given turn.
If a piece takes another piece, then the player who owned the piece that was taken will be flipped. You may only take a piece of the opposite colour.
Worked Example:
-White is the active colour to begin with.
-I PM the first player on the list for white pieces to let them know it is their turn.
-They choose to move their knight to a legal space.
-At the end of the 24 hour period, I update the chessboard with their move.
-Black is now the active colour
-I PM the first player on the list for black pieces to let them know it is their turn.
-They decide to pass, or otherwise do not respond for the 24 hour period.
-At the end of the 24 hour period, nothing happens.
-As the turn was passed, black is still the active colour.
-I PM the next player on the list for black pieces to let them know it is their turn.
-They choose to move their knight to a legal space that happens to take a white piece.
-At the end of the 24 hour period, I update the chessboard with their move, and flip the player who owned the piece that was taken.
-White is now the active colour
-I PM the next player on the list for white pieces to let them know it is their turn.
-and so on.
The chessboard itself has 2X2 squares highlighted in black. Each of these squares represents a PT. You will have access to that PT for as long as your piece remains in the square.
While a player is dead when their piece is taken, the reverse is not true. If a player is eliminated through other means, their piece will remain on the board, and they can still move it as per normal, although they will not be able to view or participate in any PTs or use any actions permitted by their role, if any.
Colour is also an alternate wincon. If all pieces of a given colour are wiped out, then all players of the surviving colour win.
