Well, Upicks are now all considered bastard by design and force you to ask the list mod for approval first and ... I'd help review one, I'd even volunteer to help some with the design and give ideas but I will not run one at the moment.

Usually not. In Upicks, the role is usually generated based on the submitted flavor(and possibly randomly rolled alignment) instead of non-random role alignment.
If you change role and/or alignment in any way, after recieving the playerlist, by your own, not strictly predetermined actions then you are using non-random role assignment.
It's still random alignment. For example, in a recently finished Upick, I picked a flavor that should have been scum. I was town instead. If Upicks truly use non-random alignment, I would have been scum in that game.

Usually labelling as a Upick is fine, since when is a game ever secretly a UPICK. You don't have to ask for approval because that information is explicitly given to the players.

This is what I liked from a moderator POV from my Fusion Upick. I liked having to make a setup function while adhering to the flavors and abilities of the picks as much as possible.
May run a sequel at some point but not likely soon.
uPicks inherently have nonrandom role assignment, since you are creating a role for each person based on their picks. As long as you announce that it's a uPick in your signup it should be fine.
