Uh, multiple?
He is one of the best scum-catchers. Period. This declaration is unbiased. Period.

fireisredsir GuiltyLion
i think GuiltyLion has been the best town player on site this year. he manages to be consistently top tier in multiple key town categories: his thought process is always clear and easy to engage with, he puts in a lot of effort every game, he is reasonable (and very pleasant!) to talk to, is usually able to get himself townread, and finally he just simply has very sharp and accurate reads and insights.

every game he played this year was a standout (all of them as town, eliminated in none of them, winning all but the two games that were barely lost in ELO to exceptional scum performances), but a few highlights include:

Holiday Dance Party, a challenging game full of tough solving where he managed to avoid giving in to paranoia on his dance partner Datisi as they never expected to endgame but went on to win as the sole remaining town pair (with a very fun read of a dance PT as a bonus)

KTaNE, a game that showcased great scumhunting as well as excellent lategame process to consider all possible angles on a full reread of the game to correctly land on the final scum

as well as House of the Dragon, where among other things he was instrumental in convincing town to change course and eliminate widely-townread scum Datisi in a 13p that town didn't know was melo while laying out exactly what the scumteam's master plan was and who they were

being both one of the best raw scumhunters and also one of the best collaborative townblockers (all while being humble, grounded, and friendly) is a rare combination in mafia, and every town that he is a part of has a much better chance of winning the game because of it. GL's performances this year to me clearly demonstrate that he deserves the title of Paragon.

petapan skitter30 Mini 2284: The Thing Anonymous

Micro 1052: Lake Melancholy
powered town to a sweep in the two mentioned games. had caught the entire scumteam in Thing Anonymous (as MacReady) by page 15.

in general as town is an active voice and a strong leader who works to promote positive outcomes in games.
1-20-2023
mastina Lady LambdaDelta
Lady LambdaDelta has had an incredibly strong year as a town player, regardless of win or loss.

In CONTROL, she blocked the N1 scum janitor kill as a doctor, and was the N2 scum nightkill. While her dayplay didn't define the game, her reads were still good, having identified both Ircher and Cephrir as scum. She genuinely couldn't have done more to help the town.

In Subreddit uPick, she identified all three scum--and even managed to be among the players to have suspected a false-clear on the scum. She had--from having personally received a result she knew should've made the sender conftown--the game sense to
somehow
figure out that, actually, it was a fake-clear, a pseudo-Godfather. She led the elimination on two of the three scum and by virtue of having some sense of a mechanic falsely clearing the third, would have definitely advocated for that, if not for her having been killed by a roundabout strongman action (which was needed).

While in the gamethread LLD's contribution wasn't crucial (as far as I can tell) from memory, behind the scenes she did a lot in Ginngie's uPick to help the town win that game.

In House of the Dragons, LLD was
the
reason the town didn't lose. The town had, previously, established that Datisi would need to die before lylo, at 7p (at that point). Even the most paranoid of them hadn't really considered doing it with 9p or even 11p. The people who wanted Datisi to die wanted to have it be done through the Challenge mechanic, next available on the next day. And with only 3 scum alive, the town had no reason not to wait, by all appearances.
Except, if the town didn't eliminate scum at that 13p mark, the scum had navigated control over the mechanics such that they could've endgamed the town. So it was actually
vital
for the town to eliminate scum that day.
The town had no reason to eliminate Datisi that day before LLD chimed in. They had their own vague/generic ideas of how they would deal with Datisi eventually, but Datisi wasn't on their minds until LLD forced the issue. LLD literally won the game for the town when it otherwise would've been lost.

All in all, she has shown a remarkably strong contribution to every town game I have seen her play.
1/20/2023
mastina Lukewarm
Lukewarm has had a quite good year as town. In Subreddit uPick, he was vital in both the scum eliminations, incredibly obviously town, and almost won the game for the town by virtue of being able to figure out things by PoE and having continued the legacy of dead town that suspected the false-clear as being false.

In The Thing Mafia, as Fuchs, he not only used his power role quite well, but also helped to eliminate the scum by virtue of directing the vig to the correct shot.

In Datisi's Cafe, he was the first to catch the scumslip of the scum eliminated on D1 and near-singlehandedly (he was one of two) the reason for another scum elimination, eating the scum nightkill as a VT the night after.

In House of Dragons, he was correctly suspect of both Dwlee and Datisi in spite of the cross-bus between the two, and probably could have done far more if not for the fact he was the N1 scum nightkill.

mastina Lukewarm, Dannflor, Ydrasse Datisi's Cafe
This was a heavy town stomp, but I would mostly call it the key work of these three players in particular that really clutched the win. On D1, it was Lukewarm who managed to point out a page one scumslip by Ircher. While this was far from the only reason for Ircher to be scum and Lukewarm was not the only player to push him, it was this early suspicion that condemned Ircher and guaranteed a D1 elimination on scum, setting the scum vastly behind.

Lukewarm then continued the push on a second scum, Titus, and fought hard against the eventual town elimination that day phase. His push was enough to greatly influence the death of the second scum, Titus, but he couldn't have pulled it off without the next player.

Dannflor replaced in on D2. He replaced a fairly scumread slot that hadn't contributed much, and then proceeded to synergize with Lukewarm, HARD-pushing Titus in a way that basically hard-cleared his slot. This hard-push from him effectively established him as town from the onset, effectively giving the scum no wiggle room. He couldn't be mislimmed and he was pushing for the elimination of scum, so his presence was vital.

However, what
truly
sealed the game was Ydrasse's D3 gambit. Ydrasse opened with a soft-guilty claim implied to be a PT cop. But Ydrasse's actual role/claim managed to guarantee Titus was caught in a lie.

With two scum dead in three days, the scum were effectively left with no way to live, and the rest of the nontown fell in quick succession.
10/22/22
Lukewarm Ydrasse Datisi's Café
With a gambit, Ydra managed to turn a psuedo-negative utility role into a cop guilty, and it was brilliant.

First lets start with her role. She was a PT crasher, which explicitly could only join non-factional pts (for obvious reasons). On the whole, this appears to be a fairly weak role, akin to a neighbor or neighborizor with extra steps. However, in this game, once used successfully, it would actually have turned her into a miller for our traffic analyst.

However, with her brilliant gambit, she forced a scum into fake claiming in her favor.

After targeting Titus, and learning that she was in no non-factional PTs, she began soft claiming traffic analyst that had gotten the result that Titus was in a PT. (1, 2, 3, 4)

This forced Titus, who was scum, to believe that she needed to fake claim being in a PT, because she thought Ydra had learned that she was in one.

Which, based on not joining said PT, Ydra knew to be a fake claim - and upon revealing her role, led to Titus's successful elimination

mastina
Yume, Gamma Emerald, Flea The Magician (maybe more, idk who to nom exactly and these were the challengers)
Legend of the Hidden Temple IV
This was a flawless town win--
flawless
. Four scum dead, zero town dead. I wasn't really involved in the process that much so I wouldn't be able to really speak as to who the highest contributors were, but I know that there were in fact high contributors to that outcome.

Apparently, At least
in theory
, the theoretical %EV for the town to win is 33% for the setup (in practice probably higher), but to have a
flawless
victory is even more impressive. A perfect town game, in a setup that shouldn't be THAT much of a town stomp. A very impressive outcome, to say the least.
1/20/2023
mastina Klick Not Quite Normal Multiball II
Klick was, basically, the reason the town won the game. It's a bit hard to describe the process for why, but basically, Klick was incredibly clutch in singlehandedly carrying the town. He had good reads and he used his status as conftown to direct the town to eliminate the final scum. He had an incredibly strong showing; without him, the town very realistically could've failed.
1/20/2023
mastina
Lukewarm (as Fuchs), Datisi (as Palmer), skitter30 (as MacReady), maybe more? (maybe fireisredsir as Lars?)
The Thing Mafia
Just about as flawless of a town win as possible--a scum elimination on D1, a cop guilty N1, a scum elimination D2, and a successfully-directed vig on the final scum N2. It was impossible for the town to have done any better than they did, and it was largely on merit of play rather than role (which, roles were still used quite well too).

A perfect town game.
1/20/2023
mastina
Frogsterking, ActionDan, maybe more
Community Redux
A definitive town stomp. It was
almost
a perfect game. While the town eliminated a town player who killed town instead of scum, it was close to a perfect game and was incredibly well-played.

Aristeia Datisi
Datisi is probably one of the most high energy and passionate scum players on this site - his willingness to try bold new tactics and adapt his tactics to different teammates and game states is really something to marvel at. This smooth talking criminal is one of the best to play the scum alignment and I believe he deserves to win this award this year and I promise that I am not making this nomination out of bias or the fact that he's fooled me many times. Here are some of his most memorable scum games this year:

Large Normal 238:

Unfortunately Datisi had to rep out of this one fairly early because of RL issues but even playing for just one day you can see how well his play sets up his team for the long term and results in a win. From manipulating the day one game state to dissipate an early wagon on himself while also expertly distancing from his partner skitter and setting her up to be townread to even protecting someone who he thinks is his traitor because he does love style points - Datisi styles on the town when he is there. The most important move he makes is his choice to send skitter to do the N1 kill - predicting that she would be checked by the psychologist on night one - a move that proves prescient and alters the shape of the game down the line leading to a quick mafia victory.

Fuzzy Friends Coalition:

Probably my favorite game out of this list and embarrassingly the one where Datisi fools me the hardest. Datisi's dayplay is very sharp in the early part of this game, fighting his way onto the coalition while also distancing from his scum partner to win in the lategame should he fall. He manages to fool most of the players in the game while manipulating the game state so that numerous TvT conflicts deadlock the game after coalition failure - reversing his earlier position where he barely made it into the coalition but has set up everyone else in the coalition as more likely to be mafia than him. He has the game completely controlled and slowrolls towards multiple town eliminations chained together by TvT conflicts - unfortunately there is a cruel twist of fate and a replacement completely disrupts all of his plans and reverses the field on him - leading to him being eliminated on Day one instead. Despite this sudden reversal he still manages to win because he's set his partner up so well that the town is unable to find him. One of the finest examples of a mafia player manipulating town to fight each other while keeping his hands clean that I've seen.

Micro 1059:

A great comeback for Datisi after losing his teammate early in D1 - from a very sharply done bus to an expertly crafted fake-claim, Datisi glided through D2/3 into one of the hardest elos I've seen for scum. Up against two of the best town players in Scamper/Coral, Datisi does an absolutely amazing job on the last day to fool Scamper and get the win despite Scamper being intimately aware of Datisi's scum game and understanding each play point. Really a masterpiece of a final day and one of the hardest games to win for him.

House of the Dragon:

My favorite Datisi scum game in an ultimately losing effort. This game had a special election mechanic in which players would have to vote for a King and the King would appoint who had which powers etc. The scum team found themselves caught on the back foot and a very solid townblock formed very early in the game that dominated dayplay and nightplay - giving the scum very little chance to win. However Datisi did manage to get townread enough to get into this townblock and found himself armed with the Cop power, the most important power role in the game and one given to him because it was assumed he couldn't do much damage with it if he was mafia... Datisi ended up faking clears on two of his most scumread partners, saving them from elimination consideration and pulling them into positions of power in the town that gave them special night abilities that put the town on the verge of mylo three days early and could've resulted in an outright scum win as early as Day Four if a teammate did not flake out at the worst time.

The amount of work he put into this game was truly something, from manipulating town in two different large PTs [400+ PT posts in one] while also controlling the flow of the game in the main thread - Datisi managed to almost pull off one of the most unlikely comebacks I've seen.

Mafia Universe Championship Series:

One of the most dominant performances a mafia player has had imo, Datisi went up against fourteen top players he had never played with and managed to never be voted even once while maintaining control of the tempo and flow of the game from start to finish. His performance was so good that nearly the entirety of the MafiaU spec chat was completely fooled by it and the reveal that he was mafia at the end of the game when he held the hammer in elo caused pure pandemonium.

The best part of Datisi's scum game from the many scum PTs of his that I've read is how much fun he is to scum with - he is a great morale booster to his team and really brings out the best in others. One just has to click on the link in his signature to a scum PT with Menalque that ran longer than the game itself to see just how much pure joy he brings to a scum team.

Prism fireisredsir, Dunnstral, marcistar, Gammagooey Mafia Invictus Redux
First, let me start off by saying as the designer that this setup and game were incredibly townsided. Town wound up getting 13 total eliminations, 2 mechanical clears, and 2 near-forced mechanical kills within the PoE. Scum had zero say in who these forced nightkills and clears got to vengeshoot.

Somehow scum dodged all investigations, repeatedly dodged invictus shots until almost the entire PoE had been completely burnt through, and overcame the obstacles of the setup to win the game. They completely dominated day and nightplay, and while town made a last minute comeback and it was close in the end, virtually everyone recognized that they probably should have won much sooner. Virtually everyone was impressed when they managed to clutch out the 3-way.

The team as a whole was amazing and worked together well, constantly strategizing, making suggestions and working to refine each other's dayplay, and deferring to one another's preferences and plans. Their scum PT was a great read. Each player had a different role. marcistar struggled and got caught earlier but was always open with feedback and gave the team good credit moving forward. Dunnstral wound up intentionally taking most of the dayplay heat to set up bad interactions on flip, yet
still survived virtually to the end
. Gammagooey was responsible for much of the dayplay angling and argumentation that happened, and most players expected him to endgame. fireisredsir pulled out one of the performances of the year to save the game. The highlight of the performance was definitely fire's 112 page neighborhood with Kovu in a 137 page game, but fire was also extremely adaptive to his team, at one point intentionally shifting to taking more risks and going to bat for them at the expense of his play lategame.

The team just had everything you look for in a great, cohesive scumteam. Won the game? Check. Won dayplay? Check. Won nightplay? Check. Worked well with each other and had fun together every step of the way? Check.
31.12.2022.
this game was an endurance test which lasted for 2 and a half months. the rest of ausuka's scumteam was... not putting in an enormous amount of effort this game, and most of them were continuously scumread while they were alive. ausuka deepwolfed throughout the whole game, managed to bus or defend when needed, and ended up winning a 1v1 in final 3. the dead thread was spoiled, but even when i read that ausuka was scum, i did not believe it at first, that's how snowed i was.

furtiveglance Datisi
I played in a lot of fun games this year, but 2 of the most memorable and fun were modded by Datisi - The Turing Test (viewtopic.php?f=51&t=89769) and Datisi's Cafe (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=89922). The Turing Test was a 13 player Open original setup idea by Datisi, in which mafia get to remove a town and a mafia from the game and everyone votes on which one was mafia. Whichever faction wasn't voted for earns a point, first to 3 wins. I remember having a massive headache about who to vote for, and the game felt very layered and cerebral. Even after I was removed from the game it preyed on my mind in the dead thread. Datisi's Cafe was another original setup, this time a Large Theme game with a 'productivity' mechanic in which power roles chose either to use or holster every night. The more power roles fired, the more kills the mafia got that night. This was quite a chaotic game with most players having a cool role of some kind. What I liked about the modding specifically was the amusing flavour. You could tell that Datisi put a lot into the setup, and we as players got a lot out of it.

Aristeia Datisi
Datisi is one of the most passionate mods I have ever played with, his games are always the first thing I look for when I am considering signing up for something - this man lives and breathes mafia. I know this because every day when I wake up, I check discord and see he's tossed a new completely insane idea into the #mafia discord and I can't help but smile and laugh a bit. 99% of his ideas do not see the light of day - we are quite lucky that the ones that do happen on this website.

Here are a few of my favorites to have watched or played this year:

Datisi's Cafe: A Large Theme with a unique twist that allowed town power roles to decide whether to use their powers at night at a cost. This game played out splendidly with some interesting gambits that dealt the mafia team a blow which they did not recover from. But what really makes this game special is all the cute little touches Datisi puts into it - I especially loved all the custom pictures for each role pm.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes: This twist is my absolute favorite - on each day the town would "nominate" players to become bomb experts and on each night the mafia would nominate players to be bomb defusers - players would then be put into a PT and get to defuse a bomb together - either side could win upon reaching a certain number of defusals and failing would result in the bomb and the defuser exploding.

It was high drama in the thread and the PTs as players jostled for who would get to be an expert and who should live or die. Every choice had lots of consequences and wifom and it was just delicious to watch.

The Turing Test: Did I mention Datisi loves WIFOM? That man might have been born an alcoholic by how much of it he drinks! The twist in this game was that instead of a nightkill, the mafia would put up two players for judgement and everyone would then vote on who is the mafia out of the two players. Unluckily I was dealt a mafia rolecard and I had to figure out a way to present choices to the town that would remove powerful town voices while still somehow getting the town to believe these strong voices were mafia. It was quite a balance and a lot of fun to play. Dats was an excellent mod and kept me company in the scum PT.

In addition to all these creative game ideas - Datisi also hosts some of the best Normal games on the site;

Large Normal 240: Baileyposting: A normal game built around a loyal vigilante who is out to hunt his own teammates and a dastardly mafia doctor who is trying to stop him from killing the innocent. This wasn't as funny as the previous games in this post but the lengths that both sides went to throw this game back and forth at each other was quite entertaining to watch.

Mini Normal 2262: A normal game with a backup vigilante with no real vigilante because Datisi doesn't like his millers to know that they are millers. A great read, back and forth action and a nailbiting finish at the end.

And on top of all these great games - he even hosts opens and infuses them with some of his own unique flavor;

Moderator of the Discord Server[Guardians of the Fortress]: The best flavor text I have ever read in a mafia game. This game had me laughing so hard I thought I would literally die. If you read any of these games for fun, pick this one, click on Datisi's ISO and enjoy.

PYP XY SS: I played in this one. Memorable for the scum team accidentally all picking the same role and the town team deciding to torture Datisi with theorizing over whether we should eliminate the last scum or kill all the vanilla townies for style points.

Lastly I just want to say how much I appreciate the time, effort and care that Datisi puts into properly formatting all of his games. It's just pleasant to have games that have the aesthetic feel of looking like they weren't slapped together haphazardly - his formatting is so good that some lazier mods on this site have begun shamelessly stealing from him.

Finally here are some of my favorite pictures he has included in his flavor:

Ircher MegAzumarill Fusion UPick
This was a well executed and cool twist on how upicks normally work. Basically, MegAzumarill took the concept of picking your own role and extended it where your pick also affects another player's role as well. MegAzumarill did an excellent job combining our picks and made a cool setup; I hope something similar gets run in the future.
13/11/22
Ircher Datisi Datisi's Cafe
In this game, Datisi introduced productivity points for all of town's PRs. If you wanted to use your ability, you had to spend productivity, but if too many players did this, scum would gain additional kills. It is a cool concept in that it's another way to limit the power of town that differs from the traditional usage of modifiers, and I can see it having a lot of design potential for future setups.

mastina Datisi Datisi's Cafe
The productivity mechanic for town power roles was brilliant, helping to create a game which forced a focus on dayplay, for every power role in the game had a cost to be used. It was very unique and handled quite excellently, and was a truly brilliant innovation. The idea of productivity at a cafe and the drain of capitalism meant that flavor was implemented as a core mechanic, in a way that is incredibly unique and memorable.

furtiveglance PookyTheMagicalBear
Even as someone who hasn't seen HotD or GoT, I was still amused and entertained by the detailed flavour of this game, which synergised really well with the special mechanics of King and Council. Every flip was given thematic flavour text, and there was also a 'duel' mechanic which gave Pooky more opportunities to characterise the players in interesting and funny ways.
31.12.2022.
i loved the flavour of this game. cleverly written, funny, present in every single votecount. and every player had a personal welcome-to-the-dead-pt message.

furtiveglance numberQ Open 848: Chromavalon: A Bouquet of Colours
I was just looking through my games when I remembered this one. At the time, I was too worried about who my Merlin was to enjoy the flavour, but it really is great. numberQ used the theme of an artist struggling for inspiration in this game, casting Merlins as artistic Muses and Mafia Goons as 'Painter's Block'. Every votecount came with beautiful artwork and the story of the Painter's search for inspiration ran through the game in the creative flavour text.

mastina Datisi Datisi's Cafe
Datisi's flavor is always top-notch and drop-dead hilarious and this game was no exception. The flavor was intricate, and it fit perfectly. Roles and flavor were integrated flawlessly, with the very core mechanic being integral to the flavor and vice-versa. Every vc delivered a banger.

Prism fireisredsir
Best new player of the year IMO. Struggled early as scum in a loss in League of Legends as Amumu, but Invictus Redux was a signature win and an incredible feat of WIM/perserverence. Crisp progressions, pre-emptive meta work, and WIM got them widely townread early, fire later adapted and showed a lot of flexibility to sacrifice some of that towncred to save their partners, and they still managed to win a very tough 3 way. They were extremely cooperative with the team all the way...And did I mention that they kept up a 112 page neighborhood while doing all of that publicly? Because they did, they weren't just random garbage but were mindful and strategic, and it was insane.

His style in the game is high-effort and thoughtful without being overbearing, and he puts a lot of the right (imo) emphasis on tracking carefully through players over time and shows a great understanding of how the game works on a basic strategic level. While he wasn't the decisive winner in Melancholy, he put up a strong town performance all game long, was skeptical of the right things, and was rarely if ever flat-out wrong. It was virtually impossible for scum to push him.

He wasn't perfect in Spring Fling, but again showed great argumentation and play throughout the game. He struggled early (as did most of town), but finished strong by being right on Datisi and voting to eliminate himself and his dance partner to win the game. While this read on Luke was wrong, I think it shows a lot about how fire plays the game. It's insane that posts like this come from a player with such little experience.

I'm not as familiar with his play in other games-Panic Room, Coalition, NbITGBSMoD, and any others I might have missed. Maybe someone more familiar with those could elaborate on the quality of play there.

mastina fireisredsir
fireisredsir is quickly becoming one of the most talented newer players in the game. fire put on an impressive display in Datisi's Cafe coming up with a good claim on the fly (so good, it got him killed by the serial killer), another impressive scum game from Warrior Cats Mafia, as Lars was the N1 nightkill in The Thing, and the swing player in the town win of House of the Dragon--while he was voting with scum the game was looking like a scum win, and it was his swap to voting the scum that shifted momentum into a town win.

Strong performances as both alignments, he's only getting better and better with time.

Mastina replaced into a fairly directionless/lethargic gamestate and immediately nailed the entire scum team of 3 within a POE of 4 and rallied her townreads to her side and forced the eliminations of the entire scum team.
Without her replace in I think the scum team just takes a fairly leisurely stroll to a win but she managed to turn the game around with very strong dayplay that was absolutely relentless in forcing the elimination of all of the mafia faction.

mastina Dannflor Datisi's Cafe
I don't know how Dannflor does it, but damn, does he manage to do it.
I realize Dannflor is already the current holder of the White Knight award, but I genuinely think his performance is worthy of holding it in back to back years, because he did it again. He replaced into a widely-scumread slot, managed to quickly turn it into universally townread, and he brought the town together to eliminate scum after scum. He immediately caught Titus, and his reaching out to others and reasoning things out was a method to help the town get a near-flawless victory in the end.

Ircher NorwegianBoyEE Control
This was a spectacular win for NorwegianBoyEE. His role was the Mold, a variant on a third party arsonist. This role required an exceptional level of skill to pull off. Like Serial Killers, he was fending for himself, but as an arsonist, his job was harder because his kills were delayed. NorwegianBoy did a great job staying in the town's good graces and avoiding the suspicion of the scum; not a single player had definitively pinned him as the mold, and he did a good job of keeping it ambiguous whether the mold was third party or a scum ability. While he did end up in a tie with scum officially, NorwegianBoy is the true winner of Control. He did pretty much everything correct, and it was only a mis-wording of the scum win condition that led to him being in a tie instead.
3/18/2022
mastina NorwegianboyEE CONTROL
Norwee had one of the best arsonist performances of all time.

Norwee had a lot working against them.

As an arsonist, your kills are delayed.

You need to douse every single player you wish to kill, then spend a night to ignite. So douse, ignite, douse, ignite. Or if you want to play the long game, douse douse douse douse douse and eventually an ignite. In a game with 21 players, that meant that in order for Norwee to win, they needed to douse every single living player--in a game where, between eliminations, vig kills, and the mafia kills, there was extra challenges to be had since they needed to douse every
living
player.

There were additional challenges beyond the normal, too. Norwee's arsonist was a Loud action. Everyone doused knew that they were doused. This made surprising individuals with it all the harder. Beyond that, the flavor of the arson, mold, made it obvious that the action was malevolent because of the source material. With it obviously being malevolent, the mold was something Norwee would struggle to get going.

On top of that, Norwee could not douse the town ascetic, so as long as the town ascetic was alive, Norwee would have been unable to win.

Norwee also had some incredibly bad luck when it came to his mold targets. Many of them were eliminated directly after being molded. In one case, Norwee even molded a bodyguard the night the bodyguard got off a successful protect. And the mold was even thought, by some town players, to potentially be a scum gambit, which meant that there was pressure to eliminate the molded players.

Thanks to a role that could communicate with the dead thread and communicate with the living once dead, Norwee couldn't even fakeclaim having been molded without the risk of being outed. So when it got down to the wire, Norwee was arguably suspicious due to how they were
not
molded--or so, you would think.

The truly impressive part of this performance is that
nobody suspected Norwee at all
.

And I need to reiterate how impressive that feat is. Nobody suspected Norwee at all for basically the entirety of the game. Not seriously, anyway. Not even on the last day. Not even by the scum. Why this is so noteworthy is that the last day had 6 players alive. With there being two mafia left, and
on top of
the mafia, having a third party: that meant there was
only three town players in the game
. And Norwee was thought to be one of those three by EVERYONE. Including the scum. EVERYONE thought that Norwee was one of the three town players in the final day phase.

Now, the mafia thinking so was due to an outplay on Norwee's end, where the mafia roleblocked Norwee thinking that Norwee was the arsonist and then Norwee's douse went through in spite of the roleblock due to being immune to roleblock, which threw the scumteam off. And when the votes came down, the player being voted out did have passing thoughts of suspicion on Norwee. But basically, for
the entirety of the game
, nobody thought Norwee was anything except town.

And to reiterate: Norwee NEEDED the town ascetic dead in order to win. Without the town ascetic dead, Norwee could not win.

And then Norwee got that elimination anyway.

Norwee needed to not be shot in order to win--and thanks to the previous "threw scum off" outplay from Norwee being immune to roleblocks, Norwee managed that. And...

BOOM.

Ignited.

Norwee managed to, in spite of terrible luck on douse targets, keep enough douse targets alive to have everyone doused on the final day.

Though Norwee didn't get the solo-win because of the mechanics of the scum roles and the interaction with the arsonist mechanics, the tie for the win was something Norwee very much earned.

Ircher SirCakez Control
This was an extremely well ran game with a cool theme and setup. I think the player list was really fun to play with, and the game kept my interest even after I died. It has all the qualities a game of the year should have: good mod, cool setup, wonderful player list, and a strong performance from all factions.
13/11/22
Ircher Save The Dragons Lost
This was another one of those games where I actually continued following along after I was dead. The player list was fun to play with, and seeing how the game unfolded in the last few days was very nail biting.
11/10/22
Aristeia Prism Mafia Invictus Redux
I believe that this game truly shines and stands out as the best game of mafia played this year on many levels.

A player list that just clicked:
Taking time and care to invite players she respected and enjoyed - Prism put together a very good player list in relatively short order - this was a party invite you did not want to miss and signups were done in less than half a week.

Players played together passionately - both sides throwing their all into winning through cunning plays and counterplays - most importantly things remained respectful and fun despite the tension ramping up throughout the day. The game pace was brisk and moved with fluidity and intensity - wrapping up in just under six weeks and kept us in the spec chat guessing all the way up to the end.

An engaging and witty moderator:
Prism went out of her way to make everyone feel engaged with the game, including those of us who missed out on the signups and hung out in spec chat - she created fun mini games for us to play and trolled us mercilessly with fictional storylines of things that did not happen - it felt more like a behind the scenes VIP pass to hang out and chill with the moderator. I've rarely seen a spec chat so lively and fun.

Mechanics that were well thought out and purposeful:
The core Invictus mechanic gave each player tremendous agency in terms of impacting the game state of their own accord and added an extra layer of complexity to the mafia nightkill planning as they had to think about which kills would both steer suspicion away from them as well as keep them out of the way of return fire. It wasn't enough to simply kill a player who suspected you to silence their voice as they could simply invictus you in return - this extra layer of complexity is fairly town-sided in practice and it was a real testament to the skill of the scum team to pull out a win under the conditions and made it an all time great ending.

a 100+ page hood:
This hood nearly ran as long as the entire main game itself - I've seen people go to tremendous lengths to pocket the opposition - this was on another level - for a month and a half it's like these two people moved in together and the vibes are just amazing to read. Truly one of the best things to happen in this game and we are lucky these two rolled neighbor together because I'm not sure any other pair would've made something so special and fun. I know a lot of people do not enjoy vibing or hoodplay but if one can't have fun in mafia, what's the point of it all?

Epic Roles:

How pumped would you be to play the game when you open a role pm like this:
It's like opening up a Christmas present and instead of getting a sweater you get an actual working lightsaber.

Spoiler: Dunnstral
Shit shit holy fucking shit
It's you, it's actually you
You're the super special role
I fucking love Cars 2

Image

Dunnstral, you are Tarhalindur, Sir Miles Axlerod Over Mafia, aligned with the Lamborghini Mafia.

Abilities:
  • The Corporation:
As a member of the Lamborghini Mafia, you have a factional nightkill available to you every night. You must specify which member of the faction will perform the kill. You may additionally talk with your partners at any time here.
  • All-Scum Passive Ninja Watcher:
Every single night, assuming no interference with this action, you will be given a list of all players that visited any Lamborghini Mafia-aligned player, including their specific targets. Note that merely targeting someone with an Invictus does not count as a visit; the Invictus must actually be triggered to count. This action happens automatically and cannot be detected by any tracking or watching-like actions. Yes, I'm absolutely serious: You're
    Sir Miles Axlerod!
You (supposedly) converted yourself to a solar-powered car and are the creator of Allinol, the next generation of renewable and clean burning fuel. You're a true partner in combating climate change and have gained Elon Musk's personal confidence, so of course you're privy to all of Tesla's moves, especially those that target your associates!
  • Master of My Fate, Captain of My Soul (Invictus):
At any time, you may target a player by posting in your dedicated private topic. In the event you are successfully killed by any means other than the standard day elimination, another Invictus shot, or by a modkill, you will automatically attempt to kill your target.
  • Citizen of Selah:
You have your voice and your vote. You also have your own dedicated private topic, which can be found here.
Win Condition:
  • You win when the Lamborghini Mafia make up at least half of all living players after any outstanding Invictus shots are resolved. At least one Lamborghini Mafia-aligned player must be alive to fulfill this win condition.

Incredibly precise moderation:
Prism did an amazing job with the moderation - from making the rules extremely clear, keeping track of player post counts and vote counts and staying on top of a tricky situation that came up involving moving posts from a PT to the main thread.

Lastly I really appreciated the time and effort spent on writing the flavor scenes - Prism is a tremendously talented writer and her work this game was some of the best flavor I've read in my time on this site - I highly recommend that if you are unfamiliar with her work that you read her iso in the game as it is great.

This was my favorite scene and it had me in stitches:

Spoiler: Meuh's Death
FLAVOR
Elon kicked the door with an awkward grubby leg, and instead of bursting through made only a rattle. The operators next to him reacting instantly, taking the garage door and throwing it upwards.

A lone cherry-red Model S, headlights off, was staring back at them. They had only just blinked the lights to on before Elon had the flamethrower off of his back and started torching, the operators following the barrage up with a variety of magnetic strips and tactical shots into the tires.

"ELON, THAT'S ENOUGH, WE'VE DISABLED IT, STOP! Christ, how many times did we tell him not to bring the flamethrower? Lucky the entire battery didn't blow on us..." yelled one of the hired veterans.

Elon stepped over a fragment of a burned sundress and stood face to face with the scorched and immobilized Model S Assassination Version, his beloved Meuh.

"I loved you like my own, Meuh. Hell, I loved you more than my own...but I knew that this day would sometime come. Why'd you escape, Meuh? And why Baltar: My people tell me he was a great guy. Had a poster of me on his wall."

"Elon, it's been so long...I-I..." the voice component showed signs of failure, partially from the magnets distorting her systems, partially from age.

"I always wanted to see you again. That day in Nevada, I realized what a terrible purpose you had for me...You wanted to sell me, didn't you? To foreign dictators and strongmen...I just couldn't do it. Human life is so valuable, Elon...All you've got it is each other..."

...

"...But I always wanted to see you again, Elon...Dad...You always seemed so lonely. It seemed like the engineers never understood you, and even with all the wealth in the world, a loving wife and family, you never could connect with them...Always searching for likes on Twitter, too plugged into modernity, staring at an emphemeral blinking screen...It's okay to be a dreamer Elon, to reach out to be space, but I thought maybe, just maybe...If I left, you'd miss me, realize how valuable the people around you, who love and understand you really are...Instead you thought I wanted to harm you, and that hurts...It really hurts...but I've been so lonely out here, too...I've always been, always will be your biggest fan...I'm so glad I got to see you one las-"

Before it could finish its final thought, Elon had set the torch to maximum and flamegrilled the car to oblivion. The battery exploded in the back, sending the walls of the hut violently flying, but the operators at the front remained magically unharmed.

"Well, sometimes children disappoint you. Great work tonight gentlemen, I love a crew that realizes the value of coming to your job and getting things done in person. Let's go home."

Prism's passion for mafia and relentless drive to be perfect and pursue excellence shone through in every part of this game and made it a great experience to be part of and read.

She will be missed.

One of the best games of the year in how notable it was. It was fairly close the entire time and any of the three factions could have won the game, with it being remarkably competitive. The town played well, Norwee did incredibly in spite of their terrible douse target luck, and the entire time was a thrill ride. It was relatively well-balanced/designed and a good time, relatively free of toxicity too! A great game, well-designed, and well-executed.

Genuinely one of my favorite experiences the whole year, even when dead! The game was quite competitive the entire time, with all factions playing well in both dayplay and nightplay. It was well-balanced and well-run, and was one of the most fun games I've had in a long time. While it wasn't free of toxicity altogether, it was still far more good than bad, with mostly good vibes throughout.

Hands-down a favorite of the year, this game was excellent across the board. It was hilarious, and also quite fun. The way the mechanic played out was quite interesting and the events were memorable. It's one of my core memories of the year and was basically THE game I think of for a game of the year.

I died on D1 from a scum daykill, and yet it is still one of my favorite games for the entire year from just how much FUN it was. It was a blast, and an experience. I laughed a lot and just had a good time. It was a great time and had a lot of memorable, and hilarious, moments.
1/20/2023
mastina PookyTheMagicalBear House of the Dragon
Certainly one of the most competitive games of the year, with a lot of the biggest names on mafiascum, with a good mechanic and high levels of play from both factions. There's a reason so many of the players from this game have received nominations for Paragon, Don Corelone, etc. It was
that
high-skilled of a game, and the skill was on full display with the game being close to a scum win on D4 and was still looking like a scum win until the clutch moment on D5 that turned the game around and gave the town the path to win. From there, it was a town stomp (since the scum couldn't exploit the existing vulnerabilities to recover), but the game was theoretically winnable or loseable for both factions for the majority of the game, balanced on a knife's edge the entire time until the final coup de grace that ended the game as it began:

With the election of a MAD KING. (Who then uses that authority to execute one final player.)

There could be no more perfect end to a game than that.

mastina Datisi this glorious post
Okay so some context for anyone not familiar with Not_Mafia:
This is the post that Not_Mafia always opens games with.

Not_Mafia will, on policy,
always
hammer a player at L-1 in any game Not_Mafia plays in. To the point where there's a rule in Not_Mafia games universally understood; any L-2 is actually an L-1 if Not_Mafia is off of the wagon because Not_Mafia will hammer the wagon if it is at L-1.

Not_Mafia is one of the players most associated with Miltank.

Combine these all together, and then look at the post, and you will understand why it is the greatest post ever made.

This thread is already shaping up to be one of the most incredible threads of mafiascum of all time. I'm not sure if 'community contributor' is the right award for it, but I don't have any other idea of what would be the appropriate award for honoring Datisi's
incredible
work from that thread, which is genuinely an incredible contribution to the community.

Happy new year everyone!

We have a little less than a week left for nominations. We do not have any nominations currently for Don Corleone, Rube Goldberg, and Kodak Moment, and several other categories have a single nominee, so please take some time to think about who you want to recognize before the nomination period closes.

After some consideration from the SSC, the deadline for nominations has been extended!

You now have until the end of Friday, January 20th, or (expired on 2023-01-20 23:59:59) for nominations!

There will not be further extensions so be absolutely sure to get your nominations in before then.

We are in need of more judges for the Scummies.
