Spoiler: incredible contest

Scythia

Jim Guthrie & JJ Ipsen - The Light in Us All

This reminds me of every single indie folk song that I have listened and criticized for being all the same. Oh here come the claps even. I'm laughing 'cause this is exactly what I imagine I would compose if someone asked me "do an indie song", it's almost like it's made ironically. I want to believe it was made ironically, 'cause that would make it a masterpiece. I'll rate it a little higher just for that being the case (and just to be clear, it's not a bad song! Indie music is not bad, it's just a little boring to me 'cause it all sounds the same).
Score: 5 out of 10
Portugal

Porpoise Spit - Mary

This one could be in an early 00's movie and it would slap. Like, I don't know, Bring It On with Kirsten Dunst, right? Very generic too, but the vocalist is actually bringing something freshening to the mix. I like it!
Score: 7.5 out of 10
Mali

Holy Holy - Believe Anything

Three quarters into the song and it gets really really good. Nice production. I'm getting the same vibes I get from other more mainstream bands like Black Keys or Tame Impala. I'm glad I had to listen to this entirely 'cause I would've skipped it otherwise, the first half was kinda boring.
Score: 7.1 out of 10
Libya

The Kinzie Affair - No Means No Mister

Wow this was fun, I don't know if it was becaue my expectations were really low because of the name of the song (in which I was expecting some kind of "clever" lyrics song), but I don't think that's the case; this is pretty fun by itself, a lot of twists in a song that's not prog itself by definition.
Score: 7 out of 10
Spain

Haley Heynderickx - Oom Sha La La

Lovely mantra. This is great, nothing else to say.
Score: 8.5 out of 10
Mount Celeste

Snail's House - Christmas of a Wandering Ghost

I'm listening everything at the office so I'm not watching the videos, but I glanced over this one and had to keep watching. Fuck this is so good! The drums at some point get so mesmerizing, like a christmas marching tune. What a ride.
Score: 9 out of 10
Chile

The Flying Stars of Brooklyn NY - My God Has a Telephone

I didn't have something that I trully wanted to bring to the table this time, but I discovered this song this year and Spotify reminded me that I listened to it a lot, so yeah, I hope you like it as much as I did! It's chill, so I listened a lot while working with big databases I think.
Score: Chill out of 10
Ybor City

Pet Lizard - Fixed Gear

Not bad! But not for me. At least they tried a thing with the beat section
Score: 4.5 out of 10
Namibia

Patrice Rushen - Haven't You Heard

The variations between sections are too subtle which makes it a little repetitive, but this is me being peeky with my criticism just to justify not calling it 'perfect', but it's very close to perfection from my point of view. What a tune, golly.
Score: 9.5 out of 10
Morrowind

Faramarz Aslani - Shab

Good one, pretty well executed, the bass is subtle but elevates everything else. I'm having trouble now with the scoring 'cause I'm liking too much every song.
Score: 8 out of 10
Zanarkand

Quelle Chris - Obamacare

Oh finally, a song I actually dislike.
Score: 2 out of 10
Russia

Ic3peak - Грустная Сука

I can't put it into words, but this has something that I actually like. It's difficult to digest for sure, and if I had something bad to say about this is actually the distorted bass, which is weird because of everything else going on with this song. I love how eerie this is.
Score: 6.5 out of 10

Spoiler: a pleasant contrast to my walrus word counts
scythia light in us all: i was like "what would make someone listen to this on purpose?" and then i saw it was computer games music and said "ah". (unnecessarily alienating a kabillion people with this)
portugal porpoise spit: i know who i want to take me home somebody's gonna figure us out
mali holi holy: pretty cool
libya no means no mister: erm cool song. at the end of the video it was like "image credits: google"
spain haley hendricxkz: have had this album in my queue for like three years. i like when you have the album name mentioned in a track which isnt a title track
mount celeste snail house: wow! i associate this kind of epic chip tune kind of sound with huge overbearing harmonic movements but there's a bunch of manageably cool things they did
chile god telephone: rare pink ball english language w
ybor city fixd gear: cool song
namibia haven't you heard: i'm lookin for you
morrowind shab: good guitars...!
zanarkand obamacare: well i like quelle chris. theres like this weird stinky awesome production thing that kicks in for the title phrase everyone can get it like obamacare that emphasizes the basic eighth notes amid the nifty rhythm. like wa wa wa wa wa wa wa wa. wow and i went and consulted the music video and it is cool
russia ic3peak: wow cool

Wow I am stupid and thought this was due tomorrow and that midnight meant my midnight, so I had to bust out my dollar store earclips to get a semblance of listening in at the end of my workday just now rather than do it in a couple hours with a proper headset and no distractions

Got vote in right at deadline though, ha ha

Thanks Obamacare for being so bad I could just skip to save time :D

Most of the rest seemed pleasant enough
"Yeah after a point it felt like Aureal was the only one talking sense despite being a goose so I just followed."
