Voting, Lynching, and Death

Activity

This Open Game will be using the following set-up:

A special note about the Hider: If the Hider hides behind the Weak Doctor while the Weak Doctor attempts to protect/investigate scum, the Hider will survive while the Weak Doctor dies.

- You are Dr. Good, a local physician in the town of Lethe who serves and treats patients who enter your private clinic. On January 4th in the year 2012, you realized that your normal, typical day of treating patients and serving the common good went slightly awry when a three-man group of cyborg mafiates entered your clinic and threatened to kill the residents of the clinic during the night! Unfortunately, they’ve disguised themselves well to match the appearance of all of the other patients in your clinic. Still, you and patients must stick together and try to stop them from wreaking havoc!

Role abilities

:
- You may choose to protect one player each night.
- If that player is targeted for a night-kill, he or she will survive the night-kill as opposed to dying off the next day.
- There is, however, a small catch: if you choose to protect someone who is a mafiate, he or she will kill you during the night!
- You will only survive through the night if you protect someone of town alignment and are not targeted by a night-kill yourself, of course.

Win Condition

:
- You win when all threats to the clinic are eliminated and at least one innocent is alive at game’s end.

Hider

Flavor

:
- You are Patient X, a patient who is absolutely terrified of the dark. On January 4th of 2012, you realized it was time for your physical so you headed down to the local clinic. Upon your arrival, you realized that something strange was going on. Dr. Good was informing his patients that a group of cyborg mafiates was in the clinic, and he needed everyone’s help to root them out and eliminate them!

Role abilities

:
- Since you’re afraid of the dark, during the night phase you may choose to hide with any player of your choosing!
- If the player you hide with is pro-town and you are targeted for a night-kill, you will be protected from any night-kills that night.
- If the player you hide with is targeted for a night-kill, you will die along with him or her.
- If the player you hide with is mafia, you will be killed.
- If you hide with the Weak Doctor while he or she protects a mafiate, he or she will die as per usual but you will remain alive even if you are targeted by the Mafia for an NK.

Win Condition

:
- You win when all threats to the clinic are eliminated and at least one innocent is alive at game’s end.

:
- You are just your average patient in Dr. Good’s clinic. On January 4th of 2012, you went to the clinic for a regular check-up only to learn that the clinic had been overtaken by a three-man group of cyborg mafiates! Now you have vowed to help Dr. Good and the other patients overthrow the mafiates before they wreak havoc in the clinic!

Role abilities

:
- All that you have is your voice, wits, and power to vote. These are still very strong weapons to have so use them well and use them wisely!

Win Condition

:
- You win when all threats to the clinic are eliminated and at least one innocent is alive at game’s end.

Along with your fellow cyborgs XXXXXX and YYYYYY, you have decided to overrun Dr. Good’s clinic to try and obtain a serum that can help your cyborg population become invincible so that you could rule the Earth! You thought this would be a walk in the park but it turns out that Dr. Good and his patients are ready and willing to put up a fight!

Role abilities

- Every night, you and your mafiates talk with one another.
- Your group must decide on a night-kill once per night.
- One of you should submit the choice to me by naming the target in a private message.

Win Condition

:
- You win when any combination of you, XXXX, and YYYY are the only players alive or nothing can prevent the same.

Notes on the set-up

:

In case some of you didn't know, I was the one who actually proposed this particular set-up in the Open Game queue, so it was kinda sweet that I was also the one who got a chance to run it. Having run it to completion though, I don't think this set-up should be run again as is; I don't think the hypo-claiming was

completely

game-breaking in this case, which was one of the comments I received from some of the dead players who commented on the game afterwards. I

do

however think that the worst case scenario (which, by the way, nearly happened in this particular game) is a bit too much for both the town and the scum to handle:

1)

Hider hiding with one scum,

2)

Weak Doctor protecting another scum, and

3)

scum killing a completely different townie resulting in three (3) separate town deaths in one night after N1. Obviously the town would have two straight lynches on scum in back to back days following this since, through the hypo-claiming, they'd know which scums were hidden behind and protected, but the end result would be an immediate end-game LyLo situation where the town would be basing their lynch decision almost entirely on D1 interactions, which doesn't seem like much of a game to me. I think if I had to tweak the set-up and run it again, I'd probably add a couple more townies to the mix to balance that out.

Any other thoughts on the set-up that I might be overlooking?

Other than that, I thought both sides played a pretty solid game; I think roflcopter's case on camn was a major turning point that at least gave the town some hope, but I also think GIEFF played an all-around solid game as scum, which made it difficult for town come end-game. Wasn't someone gonna nominate him for "Internet Superstar" in the Title Fairy thread based on camn's post? lol.

I even addressed this as a potential reason to see GIEFF as scum. I shouldn't have went with my gut, but with logic.

I guess it depends on the gut in question. The one time I was stuck in an endgame LyLo situation, I went with my gut and ended up being correct. I guess some people are more logic-based while others are more gut/feelings-based or maybe it's just situational and you have to realize when gut should trump logic and when logic should trump gut.
