How cold are the Blue Mountains in June/July?

I was last there in October (2016), which had good weather. Probably haven't actually been during June) July before now, so I can only take a best attempt knowing what is common elsewhere in Australia, but I'm fairly sure the coldest it would get is single digit Celsius. (Should stay above 0)
High most likely in the teens°C

And now I've worked my memory of having been in a ticket those 7 years ago, I have renewed hope I can do well at this meet based on my placement of the (online) survivor game l was playing at the time of my visit.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology suggests avg. min 2.6°C, avg. max 9.5°C in July. No idea what that is in ye olde Farenheit. So, pretty cold by Australian standards, but almost never below freezing during the day.

I signed up as very likely/almost certain, with this much advance time I don't think I'll have a problem making it (also the weather sounds great to me, certainly a welcome respite from the unbearably humid 90s of the DC area at that time).

Okay yeah I need to log in more than once a year.

Going to look into the viability of this.

Hey! It is very likely to be the second half of July 2025 based on when most people indicated they might be available. Exact dates should be confirmed at least 12 months beforehand, but we’ll post here with any updates. :)

Hello everyone!

I have a few more details to share about Survivormeet: 'Straya Edition

Dates

The meet will run from Thursday 17 July to Wednesday 23 July 2025.

At the moment, we are planning for the core Survivor game to run on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the other days set aside to hang out, enjoy the beautiful surrounds and go on day trips if there's interest.

Accommodation

The main accommodation has been booked! As previously mentioned, it is in the Blue Mountains region west of Sydney. It is at an "Eco Retreat" in the town of Blackheath and is accessible from Sydney via train or car. I will share some more details in due course.

This will be the main venue, however, there is additional nearby accommodation that we can add on if numbers exceed capacity.

What now?

Right now, there's nothing you need to do, other than keep those dates in mind. Flights won't be available to book for another month or two. Chris or I will follow up later with details on how to formally register.

Hooroo!

Also, the cost of the booked accommodation mentioned will be covered by Stoive and me.

G'day, world!

Now that it's already less than 12 months out until the Survivor: Straya meet, it's about time DV and I share a few more details.

Dates

As mentioned, the meet will run from Thursday 17 July to Wednesday 23 July 2025, with the game intended to run on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Feel free to arrive at any time on the Thursday. Checkout on the Wednesday is at 11am.

Transport

Regular trains to Blackheath are available, from the International Airport train station with a change at Sydney Central, taking about 2.5 hrs in total. We'll be able to assist with lifts from Blackheath station. Driving is also an option, however the accommodation only has four parking spaces, so please kindly arrange that with us in advance and be willing to carpool and/or pick people up from the airport.

During the meet, we'll be getting out and about to explore all sorts of places in the area. We'll make sure nobody is left out, regardless of how they made their way to the meet.

Accommodation

Here's the Airbnb link of the primary accommodation we have booked:

https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/1337335

This will be the main accommodation, however, we will book additional places nearby if numbers require.

As mentioned, the cost of accommodation is covered. This offer is for the MS community; if there's someone else you'd like to bring, please DM us.

Registration

Official registration for attendance, plus the Survivor game itself, will open in November.

For those needing to commit to arrangements before then (e.g. flights, time off work), please DM DV or I via forums or Discord and we can ensure there will be a place reserved for you.

When registering, we will ask for:
  • details on how you're getting here (e.g. car, fly, train, etc)
  • emergency contact details
  • any requirements, such as dietaries, access, accessibility, or other arrangements
  • Whether you'll be playing the Survivor game or just hanging out (either is okay!)
  • A USD $50 payment via Paypal
Catering

The venue has a big commercial kitchen, and we intend to use it for most meals.

If we end up getting meals out (or takeout), then we'll ask people to pay for their own.

Helping out

DV and I would love any assistance! There's a few ways you can help out:
  • Carpooling - especially if there's people arriving on late flights, this is a great way to help out others
  • Running the game - if you're not intending to play the game (or not 100% sure), we'd love help with running the game. We'll keep spoilers away for as long as possible so you can still change your mind
  • Money - given the expense it will cost some to make their way here, we're covering the accommodation and catering. If you would still prefer to cover these costs or contribute monetarily in other ways, there will be opportunities for this once we have finalised costs. Just to be clear, however, DV and I are willing and able to cover the cost of accommodation and catering.
  • Fun - bring your board games/card games/whatever!
