expansion is not as important as getting across the stalemate line, attacking Russia doesn't help you because the Russian SCs are indefensible anyway.

I have a different name on here these days to keep some level of separation from the Diplomacy stuff, but howdy, that's me!

I would strongly recommend against PlayDiplomacy. The company that owns it is super scummy - their entire original codebase was taken from an open-source diplomacy website, which they then very hastily disguised, and shoved half the features behind a paywall. And more recently they've filled the front-page with crypto and gambling ads. It annoys me a bit that that site is still the first thing most people see when they're looking for places to play, but SEO is what that company is good at, so it makes sense as to why.

vDiplomacy is definitely the best place for variant play, although the site interface is quite outdated. As long as you're fine with dealing with drop-down boxes and some MS paint looking result maps, it's fantastic.

If you want more modern looking variant maps, you could also join hand-GM'd games on discord, but those aren't going to be private games. I can drop discord links if anyone wants them though.

Out of curiosity, how do those work? Is there a software for that or does the GM have to draw a map and update it?

And, I really want to play or spectate the Versailles variant with minor powers, is that on discord or on some site?

Ah, so Versailles is actually PlayDip-specific, no other website has that. And I think that is one of the ones behind the paywall. It could absolutely be run on discord, but I don't think anyone currently is - if enough MS people are interested, I could do it here even (although would need to start after mid-July as I'm quite busy til then!)

Discord games tend to be resolved by hand by a GM on Inkscape or something similar, yeah. There's a person in the Imperial Diplomacy server working on a bot for it, but I think that's still a while out.

i'd be interested in playing variants yeah ! regular diplomacy just doesn't strike my fancy anymore

I'd definitely send most of the thanks for the game to DE and Searl, mostly because I shamelessly stole the OP from one and the other was the reason this happened.

I could probably run a variant if there was interest, even if it needed to be hand resolved, but it would probably end up like the later days of this one where there were delays on phase resolution.
