Also C-Worl I really loved your short writing bit, it's both very wholesome and funny! I'm also quite intrigued about what the prize is, however.

I might participate, I do have some interest in writing tho I don’t do it much
What exactly is the plan for the collaborative writing? I can’t tell if it will be something I’d like without more details
don’t mind if I do

yeah pretty impressed by depth of interest.

just an idea but i wanna suggest as a potential alternative or addition to a fully cohesive collaborative work that we maybe go for something more loosely cohesive — like a collection of samples that match a prompt/theme. this could have the added benefit of helping people focus creative juices that might be absent in a vacuum. maybe a monthly thing or something. i dont know how long it takes to write

I've participated in collaborative fiction projects before. They're fun, especially if you take a "No Plot, No Problem" approach to initially getting words on paper.

My ability to participate right now comes down to available time and attention span. If it starts after the holidays, I'll have a lot more time and be a lot less distracted.
Amid the pressure of great events, a general principle gives no help.

I'd be on board for this version, write something on a different theme each month - it'd be interesting to read different people's takes on it. And works for people like me who have more availability some months than others.

Here's a thingy I wrote about a year ago, which I decided to translare to English for the purpose of sharing here:
Spoiler: trigger warning: blood, death, war

Tom looked up to his elder sister with apprehension. "What will we do now?" he asked, his eyes tearful. "Mom is -"
Sarah hushed him. "Now's not the time for that, Tom!" she whispered. "Now's the time to be brave."
So Tom sat in silence, watching the dark, evil-looking silhouettes that passed by the alleyway in which they were hiding. He listened to the thunder of boots upon the pavement, and clinged closer to Sarah.
At long last, the sound of marching subsided, and Tom let go of his sister.
"Where do we go now?" he asked, his eyes dry.
"We're going to find mom."

***

The town square was eerily, unpleasantly, ear-piercingly quiet. Nobody spoke. Nobody laughed. Nobody cried. Tom wasn't sure whether anyone other than him was even breathing.
They walked silently among the blood-stained bricks, searching for a hint of their mother. At last, they found her, her broken body slumped on the floor. Her face was frozen in a painful smile, a smile of accepting her fate. But Tom wasn't able to accept that fate. He threw himself at his mother's dead body, sobbing.
Sarah set down beside him, weeping quietly.

***

A man in a grey jacket and a matching cap approached Sarah, and gently tapped her. She recoiled at his touch, but when she looked at his face she saw concern, not malice.
He told her something in a serious tone, and walked away.
Sarah wiped away the tears, and got up on her feet. She grabbed hold of Tom's arm and tried to pull him away from their mother, but he refused to budge.
"Tom?" Sarah asked in concern, "we need to go."
Tom didn't reply. He just hugged his mother tighter.
"Tom, stop it, please!" cried Sarah in despair. "They are coming back. Tom, please, let's go!"
Tom got on his feet, panicked. Sarah directed him to listen, and as he did, he heard the faint sound of the soldiers' relentless march. Tom grabbed Sarah's hand and started running.
The two of them rushed down the town square, into a side street, but it was blocked by rubble. They tried another street - a dead end. Tom's heart was beating strongly against his chest when they arrived at the third street, at the exact moment the soldiers showed up at the other side of the town square.
"There!" someone said in German. "The rebels are over there!"
A defeaning blast was heard, and then another one and another one. Tom felt something scratching his elbow, but it didn't stop him from running. A moment later, he felt something was pulling him downward.
Sarah was lying on the floor, her hand still in his. Her right leg was covered in a thick, red liquid, which aroused a terrible sense of horror in Tom.
"Sarah!" he shouted. "Get up!"
Sarah did not get up. Instead, she looked at Tom, her eyes in pain but her voice steady. "Run, Tommy. Don't worry about me. I will be fine," she said, but her her voice broke up on the last part. Tom did not move.
Sarah spoke again, her despair bordering on tears. "Leave, Tom! Go away!" she said, and Tom could sense the anger in her voice. "I don't want to see you ever again!"
And he ran. Not out of fear, but out of insult. He did not pay attention to where he was going, and ran smack into an older woman who was standing near the street corner.
"Hey kid!" she said, grabbing him by the sleeve. "Come, hide in my home."
Tom went with her. They went throguh a run-down wooden door into a small, dirty house. He could hear the soldiers arriving at the street right after the door was shut behind him.
The woman told him to hide in the pantry, but he refused. He watched through the window as the soldiers grabbed his elder sister, the only thing he had left, and carried her away.
Tom felt as if his heart had been cracked, but he didn't cry. And when the woman bent down to his level to check if he was alright, she was surprised to discover that his eyes were dry, and his voice was steady.
"Goodbye, sister," he said. "I hope we reunite soon. But now... now's the time to be brave."

Also here's a much more lighthearted thingy I wrote today:
Spoiler:
I sometimes dream of her
The perfect girlfriend
She has hair like fire and eyes like ice
And her smile's like a magic spell
That makes my heart beat so painfully fast
So painfully quickly

She is fierce and determind and timid and needs me
Her hair a perfect shade of chocolate
Her eyes glow like gold or honey
She is gentle and vivacious and straightforward and flirtatious

And she is definitely, definitely, not a combination of several different people I have had a crush on or dated in the past who are polar opposites of one another. That would be so very dumb.

That's actually covered in point 3 of the list of things this thread is for:
In post 0, DragonEater70 wrote: 3. Writing challenges. I love giving myself writing challenges from time to time (such as "write an uplifting story or poem about a traditionally sad thing" or "write about writing about writing"). When I do I will also post them here and everyone is welcome to try their hand at writing for the challenge.
Probably could've been phrased better though, and the idea of doing it like once a month definitely refines it. So let's do that. I'll come up with a prompt in about an hour or two!

Also, thanks to everyone who answered my question about being interested in writing a collaborative story. I'll try to figure out the exact details over the next week or so.

Writing Prompt - October

Since this is the first attempt at something like this, I am going to make the prompt relatively mild/inoffensive and simple. But still fun!

Write a short story, a poem, or a "thingy"* about either of the following themes:
- A journey. This can be a physical journey, a personal journey, or even a spiritual or magical journey. It can be a short or long journey, and it can be fun and easy or difficult and full of emotion.
- A change of perspective about something that's normally mundane and in the story/poem/thingy becomes (or turns out to already be, from a different perspective)... not mundane, whether that's due to being strange, scary, wonderful, touching, or anything else.
Bonus points if you combine both themes! But that's totally not required.

*Basically, a piece of text that's neither exactly a story nor exactly a poem, but is still literary in nature. For instance, here's a "thingy" that Psyche wrote in another thread: viewtopic.php?p=14379021#p14379021 (I'm assuming, at least. I might be wrong and this is just the truth but I doubt it). There's a very good word for it in my native language but apparently there's no word for it in English.

I started writing a novel in March, named
She Who Smothers Whispered Words
. It's a lesbian future-fantasy revenge story strongly pulling from a lot of my normal influences(Blue Archive and Umineko are the two most important probably).

It's been interesting, I've done web novel slop before but actually plotting out a full-length thing and attempting to weave together a real product is fun. About 50k words in, roughly ~60% of the intended story.
