Expanding Confirmation Phase

I have been experimenting with extended confirmations in my own mafia community, mostly that of which
- What is your role
- What is your wincon
- What is the tie-breaker mechanic (as this changes game to game)
- Other stuff if needed

I don't see how asking to just confirm specific things is all that "draconian". It might add like tops of 5 minutes to the confirmation phase but that's hardly a cost imho

i mean, do as you like i'm not really saying other mods shouldn't do it, and i wouldn't really have a problem with it as a player, but in my experience the process of requiring people to state specific stuff takes a fair bit more time than that - it's not like folks are online all the time to check messages and that means you have to wait around for a reply, can add anywhere from several hours to a day, if this is important enough to you that you want to make sure everyone confirms in a certain way go for it

again, ymmv, and don't let me discourage you from trying, just talking about my own personal results from trying to add things to confirmations and why i find it to not be worth it

Confirmation is already a thing that's done, I don't really understand why you're saying it'll take hours or whatnot

Petapan is talking about the (very real) scenario wherein you include in the role PM "please tell me your wincon" and the person says "vanilla townie". And then as a mod you have to either count this as a confirm or reply "actually I asked for your wincon could you please state it", but there's a very real possibility the person is offline by the time you send that message. Personally as a mod I've run into variations of this, and then just accepted the "Vanilla townie" response (because I didn't want to delay gamestart) and then later the person didn't know the thing they were supposed to know.

Someone should try adding in their ruleset that the mod can proactively explain the stuff they'd normally want replied in the confirmation message

In some cases I've ended up letting the player start playing the slot while I am PMing them about the setup quizzes and bugging them.

It's a bit of best of both worlds because you don't delay the game for a massive number of hours and you remove dumbbells from 98% or the duration of the game

I think I'm in a spot where I believe in some value for some of this stuff but definitely think the purist radical stop the presses position costs more money than the magazine sells for

I remember modding a game where I had a very important global info bit, I put it in huge underlined bold colored letters repeated 3 times under the OP and people still missed it. lol

One issue I see is that people will confirm they read the info and then forget it a week into the game and just dumbtell later in the game instead of earlier. Speaking as a serial dumbteller (and just a dumb player and dumb person in general)

That seems possible but negligible to me. It becomes comparable to scum engaging with the information in early game chat and then being afk in chat late day1 which is common enough to mitigate the strength of the interaction
