March 12 - "Don't Break the Site, AniX" Day

The first annual International Mafia Month was going off without a hitch when mith made a critical mistake: He announced that day's theme was Trademarks, asking questions to flaunt their trademarks and gimmicks. I wore a younger man's clothes then, full of vim and vigor, and decide to take him at his word. Over the course the day, I made 11 threads, fill to the brim with paragraph upon paragraph of Xithian poetry, rants, raves, and everything else under the sun. The site groaned. It couldn't take the weight. And Trademark Day ended earlier than planned as the site collapsed and crashed.

The next year, mith, in an offer of appeasement, decided to go with a different theme for Trademark Day: "Don't Break the Site, AniX" Day. My hands are tied when it comes to making sure it always has a place in IMM.

So have at it. Definitely don't repeat my arrogance (now that I am the one who needs to clean up the mess, I have suddenly discovered pranks are no fun for anyone), but if you have something on the site you are known for, let it fly today! Does someone else have a gimmick you find really fun and brightens your day whenever you see them post? Let them know!

My "gimmick" would have to be writing, so I guess I'll just wirte a thing.

Though I guess I might be posting this on this alt just because the jokes make more sense on it than on my main, so I guess it won't be today when sloth learns who my main is.

A Broken Promise

I didn't always hate her. In fact, I once loved her. For years, I had courted her, and although she was never rude about it, she had always turned me down. And she always had this mischievous smile on her face when she said "sorry, Broccoli Quest 2, I am just not into dating broccolis. You are a great friend, really, but it is sadly not meant to be".
There was a spark in her eyes when she said that, and each time, I thought to myself that maybe, just maybe, it was actually meant to be. That maybe, just maybe, the next time I asked her, she'd say yes.
Then one day, disaster struck. I had just finished playing a game of mafia modded by my favorite mod, Black-Worl (I like bastard games and theme games, okay?), and was typing up the customary "GGEZ" post, when I noticed a red number 1 at the top of the page. I had received a PM.
I moved my cursor over to the notifications drop-down menu and clicked on it. The drop down menu opened, and it was a PM from none other than

her

. One middle mouse click later, a new tab containing the message opened, and I switched over to it. It said:

Dear Broccoli Quest 2,
I have a horrible secret to share with you. Remember how last year, you lost that scumgame at ELo? It was basically because I cheated by gaining access to the dead thread using an alt.

Well, I thought to myself, that wasn't so bad. Yes, she was probably going to get a mafia ban for a few months then and there, but nothing could break our undying love to each other. Or so I thought. The next line of the PM was:

You're probably wondering why I sent you a PM instead of telling you in person, seeing as we're best friends in real life. The reason is that I decided to move to California. I'm already at the airport when you're reading this.

THAT was the last straw. You have to understand, dear readers. She and I had known each other since middle school. That's almost 15 years, as of writing this. And while my love had been forever unrequited, when we graduated high school all these years ago, we had promised one another to stand by each other's side through thick and thin. To always be there for one another. Let me illustrate this with an example. It was in 2026 when she was offered a position as a high-ranking executive in a big tech company. She was so excited she fell sick, and felt so dazed she wasn't sure how to respond. It was I who sat by her side, feeding her broccoli sprouts out of my own flesh to help her recover (they're rich in vitamin C!). It was also I who had encouraged her and told her she should take the job, despite her fear she wasn't fit. Or let us take another example. When my cauliflower garden had been devastated by a nefarious tiger, she was there to help me clean up the shreds and bury the baby cauliflowers. I still think of them sometimes.
But do you know who I think of even more frequently than I think of those poor baby cauliflowers? That's right. HER. And she has never come back. Never even stopped to say hi, or say sorry for moving to California without me and abandoning our promise to each other. Almost every night I lie in bed and remember her smile. Almost every morning I wake up, remembering her treachery. Sometimes I do wonder though, what was written in the last few lines of that PM that I had never bothered to read.
Maybe I'll have a look now. It says:

I read those last few sentences one more time, and then I laugh. I had not been betrayed after all. There is still hope, yet, that my one true love would be with me.

March 13 - "Thank God It's (Not) Friday" Day

As luck would have it, we managed to have the 13th of the month NOT become a dreaded Friday the 13th (by the thinnest of margins), so let's celebrate our lucky break by talking about...our lucky breaks! As much as Mafia games are a game of skill, they are also games of luck. And it only seems right that if skillful play gets a whole award ceremony (plug for the Scummies!) that lucky plays at least can get a day during IMM.

What are your favorite moments of luck in a game, where everything seemed to line up purely by chance to help you pull victory from the jaws of defeat? A random vigilante kill that struck gold? A last minute roll of the dice on who to lim that came up in your favor? Or maybe even simply the luck of getting assigned a role you've never played before and loving it!

PURB 2 was very poorly balanced by me and was way 2 townsided but thanks to minigames with a dice rolling mechanic that awarded different prizes and penalties that had real affects on the game (another design mistake) at least 4 townies randomly died and another temporarily lost their vote at a crucial time allowing scum to win

Not a mafia game but when I was a child living in ND, I leaned too hard on this rickety piece of wooden railing, causing it (and me) to fall down 5 feet. The lucky break came from the fact that the place where my head hit the dirt was mere inches away from the rusted ends of the nails that formerly helped to keep the railing on.

March 14 - "What Color Even IS This, Anyway?" Day

While the mod team often gets the lion's share (and blame) for the day to day running of Mafiascum, it would be a much more dreary site without the assistance of our community contributors.

fferyllt is the one who keeps our Title system functioning (but don't give them TOO much praise, I have it on good authority they'll get a more personal shoutout very soon). And hellbooks is who you have to thank for keeping the GTKAS queue running on time!

The Wiki is one of the most important features within the Mafiascum (and greater Mafia community!) and we have our Wiki Team to thank for that, headed by our Wiki Managers (TemporalLich, wgeurts, diluculum)! (And a brief shoutout to Ariel, who recently got demoted out of Community Contributor/Wiki Manager into MM/LSG Mod)

We can't discuss those who contribute to the community without discussing the team that will help us soon celebrate the community, the Scummies Committee (with Ircher in his second year as Committee Chair!)

And, of course, Farren, our Mish Mash Janitor. Farren's contributions may be a little less public than some of the others, but he is no less important in making sure the Mish Mash forum is kept neat and organized.

Let's give them all a round of applause for all they do for the site!
