With the heat on max, my car avoided the overheating problem, so is hopefully easily drivable to the mechanic.
My parents are taking it in tomorrow, so I should have my car back (again) next week!
My backup car necessitates consistently washing clothes and taking showers so my hygiene is going to be better than normal.
Despite how disastrous the day ways, I believe I was able to smooth things out with my wife, providing them with a reminder of why we got married in the first place.
I'm pretty sure I take no work penalties from my car failing today, too!
Small wins but wins all the same.- Ythan

have you checked the coolant reservoir? is it full up to the line? if it's low you can refill it, check the manual for what type of coolant your car uses. don't open the coolant reservoir while the engine is hot. if you drive around after refilling it and it goes down significantly (check again once the engine has cooled) you might have a coolant leak. you can ask the mechanic to pressurize your coolant system to find the leak if you think there is one.
if you run the engine for a while, does the coolant start circulating? if the coolant never starts circulating then it could be an issue with the engine thermostat/ thermal sensor. does the engine fan turn on after running the engine for a while? if not, its possible that its not detecting that the engine is hot until its too late, and not circulating the coolant, so you might just need a new engine thermostat.- rBree2

oh I checked alright. it was boiling, with bubbles flowing into it.In post 29, vonflare wrote: have you checked the coolant reservoir?
I carefully filled it to precisely just below the full line, let the car sit for an hour after adding the coolant, drove it 5 miles in 10 minutes, it overheated again, and I looked again to see it boiling again.
by the time it had cooled again, the coolant was all gone. it boiled out down to the last drop from less than 10 minutes of driving.
the fans are working perfectly (they just got repaired, and were what was broken the first time). The thermostat is accurate, too. When it says the engine isn't hot it isn't hot, and vice versa too; it is detecting things in a timely and accurate manner,
The coolant is going into the engine. It's not leaking out, but it did BOIL out.- rBree2

in that case it might be the head gasket. does the car misfire? does the check engine light flash rather than stay on steadily? In post 30, rBree2 wrote:

also, if you've looked at the spark plugs recently, were any of them wet-looking / look like they had gasoline or coolant splashed on them?- rBree2

The check engine light never came on, actually. Not this time.
It did for the first overheating problem when it was the fans broken.
But this time, the check engine light just never came on at all.- rBree2

A friend is downsizing and getting rid of a lot of the stuff their ex bought for them, and they gave it to me and my wife today--which was a recliner, a coffee table, a couple of nightstands, miscellaneous stuff, and more. We did some cleaning to make room for it, too!!!- Ythan

Last night, I had multiple cuddle sessions with my wife. Notably, there was a large stretch of time where I was just laying there with them, holding them, doing nothing but being there with them, and for once in my life...I had no thoughts of doing anything else. I didn't think of wanting to do anything else. I didn't desire to do anything else. I wasn't restless. I wasn't struggling to keep being there in that moment. They were my sole focus, my entire world, in that moment, and that moment lastedhours. Hours of peace, where thoughts of how I "should" spend my time smartly were quieted by spending my time where it most needs to be spent.- rBree2

Another win is that I got a payraise!
Not nearly enough, mind you (I would need to work 30 hours at $30/hour to cover life expenses, I’m at less than 25 for both), but I’ll take any extra even if it’s only an extra $10/week. (The increase was less than 50 cents.) Still an extra $40/month!- Ythan

No pictures, but I figured out how to bake potatoes all on my own! (Or something resembling a method to.)
I washed the potatoes thoroughly, but then knew I needed to handle how wet they were. So I wrapped the wet potatoes in paper towels, then microwaved them for five minutes, and I think that worked! (Might need to slightly increase the time tho.)- rBree2

I survived a full day of doing swim lessons.
It turns out I have a pretty good customer service teaching voice and can remain positive and encouraging the entire time, which is good because I still feel like I have no idea wtf I’m doing xD - rBree2
