in which we hide technicalities to mess people over later
[Not stolen from anyone, and not likely to be stolen by anyone.]
1)
Starting and Ending States:
The game starts during the Day. All roles that can communicate at Night may do so for the first 24 hours of the first Day. The game will end when a faction has fulfilled its win condition.
2)
Day Procedures:
Nothing unusual here - each player may discuss the game and cast a single vote at a time against people they want to lynch. Day ends when either the deadline hits or a strict majority of the votes are on one person.
3)
Voting:
Votes should be in
bold
in order for them to count, for instance:
Vote: Prof. Guppy
. If you wish to vote for a different player, you MUST unvote, also in
bold
. As long as I can tell who you're voting for, I don't care if you abbreviate someone's name when you vote them.
4)
No Lynch:
As an alternative to voting for someone, you may
Vote: No Lynch
, but for it to take effect, enough players must vote No Lynch that it would be impossible to form any other majority.
5)
Deadlines and Deadline Reviews:
Each Day's deadline will occur 18 days after the Day starts. Starting at Day 14 and on every fourth day afterward, I will review the game's activity. If I like what's going on ITT, I will push the deadline back four days. Otherwise, the deadline will become fixed. The deadline will not be pushed back more than three times per Day.
6)
Mass Inactivity:
For each 24-hour window in which no posts are made in the topic, the deadline will be moved forward 24 hours. This can be waived if a third of the living players have given notice of V/LA at the time.
7)
Deadline Lynches:
If no single player has enough votes for a lynch at the deadline, the result is No Lynch and the game proceeds to Night. Deadlines are your problem, not mine.
8)
Twilight:
After someone receives the majority vote, everyone may still discuss the game until the topic is locked, but votes and unvotes will not be considered - the person voted for by the majority will be lynched regardless.
9)
Night Length and Procedures:
The topic will be locked at Night. If your Role PM specifies that you have a Night Action, you may follow the instructions on that PM to use it. After 72 hours, the Night will end and another Day will begin.
10)
Night Action Resubmission:
If you have to PM a choice to the mod (i.e. the name of someone you want to kill/protect/investigate), you may change your choice at any time during the Night by sending the mod another PM with the new choice. The most recent choice will be honored.
11)
Contradictory Action Policy:
In the event of contradictory Night Actions (i.e. a mutual roleblock, or deciding kill flavor when someone is targeted by multiple kills), priority is given to whoever PMs the mod with the action first.
12)
Bolding Stuff:
Bolding something is how you get the mod to notice it. It's that simple.
13)
Mod Color:
The flavor text is in a pseudo-noir style; in light of this, if I am going to edit your post it will be in
. Don't impersonate me.
14)
Activity, Prods, and Replacements:
You will be prodded if three days have passed since your last post; a request for replacement will go out if five days pass. If you are prodded twice in one RL week, you will be replaced. If you are prodded three times in one game day, you will be replaced. If you know ahead of time that you will not be able to participate for at least 48 hours, go ahead and announce it in-thread so nobody (such as THE MOD) thinks you're lurking. You may need to be replaced anyway though, but the chances are much smaller.
15)
"Bah!" Posts:
If your player slot is out of the game, it's probably because people don't want you around. Go away and don't come back until the endgame. You are allowed one "bah" post provided you only use the lowercase letter 'f', with no spaces.
16)
Outside Discussion:
Don't discuss this game outside of this thread with anyone unless your Role PM lets you do otherwise.
17)
Post Edition:
Editing or deleting posts is not allowed (and usually not possible). Doublepost with your changes instead.
18)
Mod Correspondence:
NEVER claim to quote your Role PM or any correspondence with the mod. The mod will not confirm or deny anything you attribute to a private conversation.
19)
Modkills:
Breaking any of the above four rules may result in you getting modkilled, retroactively if needs be. If a living player breaks any of these rules, the day may or may not end, depending on what would disadvantage that player's faction the most. A dead player breaking any of these rules will result in someone from the same faction getting modkilled. In addition, getting modkilled results in an instant loss for that player and a blacklist from future games, along with my general hatred. In summary, follow the rules.
20)
Stuff:
There are plenty of good reasons to PM the mod - if you disagree with something I have done, if you want clarification about something I've said, or if you want to know what is acceptable to post. If you're unsure about what's you can or can't do, just ask the mod via PM. If this does not help (or you think this will not help), remember that Vi is a bastard mod. ^.^
21)
Miscellaneous:
Play to win.
22)
Other Things:
Have fun. Or else. And remember, it's a game - keep it classy and don't take things personally; everyone's doing what they have to to win.
23)
One More Thing:
Don't annoy the mod. The mod annoys back.
24)
Etc.:
Etc.
Hawt New Game Mechanic Rules:
25)
Semi-open Setup:
All of the possible roles and win conditions in this game will be in the next post. Nobody will receive a role PM that is different from any of those listed in the next post. (Well, the blanks for names will be filled in, but other than that.)
26)
Mod Note Policy:
There are no mod notes attached to any of the roles. There are no sanity issues, no hidden strings tied to roles; what you see is what you get.
27)
Flavor Policy:
Names mentioned in the flavor don't have anything to do with alignments. I just need relevant names for the flavor, simple as that.
If you take issue with the rules, please PM me as soon as possible before any precedents get set. Especially if you have modding experience.
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.
