STRANGERCOUG'S WORST NIGHTMARE II: THE CURSE OF THE NEKOMATA

It was 5:45 AM on a cold Monday morning. StrangerCoug's mother had just dropped him off in town, at work in El Paso, Texas. He entered the building and went to his locker so he could put away his cell phone, which wasn't allowed on the production floor.

He had to cut through the production floor to get to the break room so he could put away his lunchbox. As soon as he scanned his security badge, he opened the door. Then he heard a voice—the same one he heard last nightmare he had.

"Shouldn't you be going?" the voice said.

"Where?" StrangerCoug responded.

"Back home?"

"Already? I sure wish time flew that fast, but it unfortunately doesn't."

By that time, StrangerCoug had made it to the door leading out of the production room toward the break room. He was about to hit the button that let him out, but was stopped by the voice.

"Don't push that," she said.

"Why not?" StrangerCoug asked.

"Seriously. Last chance to turn around and go back home. I already called you in."

"I'm supposed to call myself in, not to mention that I'm perfectly fine. Now shut up."

He hit the exit button and opened the door to find a nightmarish monster on the other side. It appeared almost like the fursonas he drew, except it apparently had had a sex change operation and grew another tail. In her hands was some sort of club on fire.

"

StrangerCoug had become speechless. The nekomata he had come across emitted an evil laugh.

"I told you to turn around," the nekomata said. She was emitting the same voice that was telling him to leave and the same voice that was being tormented in the last dream as most of the Mafia was killed off.

StrangerCoug ran for his life. The production room had a door that led directly outside, and he bolted for it. He went through and jumped over the railing—he worked on the second floor. He was injured in the fall, however, and was no longer able to move.

He look behind him. The nekomata had apparently lost him. As he turned to face forward, a familiar person offered his hand to StrangerCoug to help him get up.

"I'm here," he said.

The friend helped StrangerCoug up. StrangerCoug was barely able to stand, but was nevertheless able to get out of harm's way.

"What happened?" the friend asked.

StrangerCoug was too scared by the turn of events to give a helpful answer.

"That... thing..."

"I understand your fear. It seems like there's been a lot of trouble in this area lately," the friend said. "The police department said they're trying to take care of it. I don't know if they're stretched thin, whether they really don't know what's going on, or what, but I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel."

"Perhaps we can make one?" StrangerCoug asked.

"We'll see," the friend said.

RULES

1. This is a closed setup, which means the only roles you will know in advance are your own and that of any other player I mention in your role PM. All other role information is secret, including how many players with a certain role exist and even if the role exists in the first place. Yes, a game with absolutely no vanilla townies is possible. It's been done before.
   
   
2. To vote for a player, bold the word "vote" followed by said player's name, e.g.
   Vote: StrangerCoug
   . As long as I can tell to whom you are referring, spelling does not count and I will accept abbreviated or otherwise shortened forms of the name of the vote's recipient. If you change your mind about whom you want lynched, you must bold an unvote, preferably in the format
   Unvote: StrangerCoug
   . You may also
   Vote: No Lynch
   , unvoted the same way as before.
   
   
3. A majority of votes is required for a lynch, even at deadline. Once a lynch has been decided, it is final and further votes and unvotes do not count for the current day. If deadline is reached with no player having enough votes for a lynch, the day ends in an automatic No Lynch.
   
   
4. Once you're lynched, nightkilled, or modkilled (a modkill ends the day
   ONLY
   if the modkilled player is pro-town), I'll allow one "bah" post that doesn't contain any game-related content if you wish to make it, but you must thereafter stop posting in the game. Said "bah" post is the only post a dead player may make during twilight. Living players may continue to talk during twilight as long as they follow all of the rules.
   
   
5. You are not forced to like each other, but the fact that you badly want so and so offed does not give you the right to insult him or her. Please keep your hatred of people or groups thereof to yourself unless you want a warning. Three warnings (or an offensive enough post) and you will be ejected from the game and replaced with someone else.
   
   
6. Do not hide text or otherwise hinder its readability by using spoiler tags, invisible text, etc. You may, however, post in any color that can be easily read against the forum background other than
   purple
   . (I know it sounds arbitrary to forbid a specific color, but I'm saving my favorite color for mod use since I am the mod ) Violators will be ejected from the game.
   
   
7. Impersonating the moderator gets you ejected from the game.
   
   
8. Unless you're the moderator (that's me, obviously), co-moderator (that's nobody), or backup moderator (that's Tarhalindur) of this game, please do not delete or edit any posts in this thread. If I catch you, you're dead.
   
   
9. You are not allowed to talk about this game outside of the thread unless I tell you otherwise, and then only with whom I have allowed you to do so and at night. This is a modkillable offense.
   
   
10. Talking about an ongoing game gets you a warning the first time and a modkill the second time.
    
    
11. Do not quote or pretend to quote any private communication, either from me or from anyone else you are allowed to talk with at night. This includes your role PM. Violators will be modkilled. You are allowed to paraphrase, but you are not allowed to plagiarize. If in doubt as to your paraphrase's legality, PM me with the wording you want to use.
    
    
12. Claiming to be scum with someone else will result in a modkill.
    
    
13. I will issue a prod to any player that does not post for 72 hours without notifying me of his or her absence. (I'm sorry, but I do not check the V/LA thread.) If you are prodded, you will have 48 hours from the time of submission to post in thread. Failure to do so may result in replacement. Keep in mind that I have the board time down to the second. I will only prod the same player twice—after that, he or she must post every 72 hours to ensure that he or she remains in the game.
    
    
14. The fastest and preferred way to get ahold of me is by PM'ing me, but you may also communicate to me in thread if it is day or twilight and you are still alive. To do so, bold "Mod:" followed by what you want to tell me, as in

You may quote MafiaSSK or tubby216 as is. (Hell, you can quote what I say in thread and leave the text in purple.) If I didn't advertise this game as bastard-modded, then yes, you would have to stick to English as per rule #6, but for this one, if you haven't posted yet and you want to fake a language restriction, you can. It's the wrath of the players if you're caught doing so, though, so be consistent.

StrangerCoug's alarm went off. Another day, another $58. There were times when StrangerCoug liked his job, and times he didn't. This was one of those times he didn't. Tuesdays were barely much better than Mondays, and he had the nagging suspicion that there'd be overtime today.

The nekomata sat on the living room couch. StrangerCoug took surprise at her presence.

"What are you doing here?" he asked her.

"Did you forget yesterday afternoon already, StrangerCoug?" the nekomata responded. "This is all a dream."

"Yeah. One in which you're tormenting me. Now disappear."

The trick with CSL didn't work with the nekomata. StrangerCoug didn't have

"Nice try," the nekomata responded, blowing a raspberry afterward.

StrangerCoug noticed the nekomata holding a somewhat large metal container. She took a drink of the contents, which startled him.

The nekomata belched. Out of her breath came a brief fireball, scorching StrangerCoug's face.

"Don't feel bad—that happened to Fishythefish too," the nekomata said, trying to get on StrangerCoug's good side.

He decided that he'd had enough of her, so moved on. As he entered the kitchen, he was shocked by the sight of Fishythefish's dead body. Not only was the nekomata clearly right, but somebody had opened StrangerCoug's knife drawer and plunged a steak knife into Fishythefish's back. This was going to be a long day.

A scream followed shortly after—that of Anon's. StrangerCoug quickly put his socks and shoes on and ran outside to see what happened. What happened was that Anon took a nasty fall from his roof—one it was hard to help. He had landed on a thorny plant and died before StrangerCoug could help him. And the person who threw him off got clean away.

It wasn't even 4:45 AM yet and it already seemed to be one of StrangerCoug's worst days. Could it possibly improve?

A search of his stuff reveals that he must know Greek also, because you find a bunch of hate mail directed at but never delivered to StrangerCoug written in that language. He also happened to be affiliated with the Revolutionary Organization 17 November.

Further going through his stuff reveals that at least part of what he said about being cursed is true: he seems to have forgotten English at some point and didn't want to be associated with the Greek Mafia, so spoke the only other language he knew: French. Life must be hell with a language barrier.

In his pocket was a suicide note, and he had stated that he wanted to die, but he clearly had not killed himself. The note wasn't even in his handwriting.

Seeing as StrangerCoug came in on the late side—not late for work per se, but without a lot of time to spare—he moved on without engaging any further with the nekomata. He found another body on top. This time, it was cut up. Somebody had removed DocPotter's arms and legs and put them on top of the rest of his body.

If sykedoc submitted an action before this point, then I will discuss with Tarhalindur and Talitha whether it should remain valid or be voided, because I really have not thought about that. If you submitted an action for sykedoc, I will let you change it in the time remaining.

Last night was a stormy night, with a bolt of lightning taking sykedoc's life. StrangerCoug's yard is once again evidence of a new death—but, as with LlamaFluff's, not by the hand of Mother Nature. A bloodthirsty, chainsaw-wielding psychopath had cut Jahudo in half. His legs were sticking out of one of the trash cans; the upper half of his body was rotting in the rear passenger-side seat of the car, where StrangerCoug normally sat to go to work. The chainsaw itself, stained a deep red, was on top of the car in roughly the same relative position.

Jahudo couldn't hold his liquor very well, but that didn't warrant being bisected. So why did it happen, and what were the motives?

MOD NOTES

• The nekomata was my biggest worry in this setup. I wanted it to be the strongest role in the game, but at the same time I didn't want her to be overpowering, and I want to know how well I did with it. Does it fit my intent while keeping the game balanced at the same time?
  
• This would be a night start also, but my insistence on keeping the lyncher/jester combo led Vi, one of my reviewers (the other being Jebus), to suggest that this be a day start instead. I am planning on a StrangerCoug's Worst Nightmare III and reverting to a night start with it, but I have so many ideas of what else I want to run that I want to give this a break.
  
• I allowed My Milked Eek to confirm via MSN Messenger since we were both on at the time of role distribution.
  
• I knew from the moment animorpherv1 asked who had a post restriction that he misunderstood his role. I don't consider post-restricted players to be vanilla, so the way I worded his role was intended to make post restrictions irrelevant.
  
• I had to change my site theme from mafSepia to subSilver for me to read FishytheFish's posts without highlighting them. (It later ended up not mattering, for some reason, so was switched back.)
  
• As for the "You saw nothing" comment I made in the Greek Mafia QuickTopic opening post, I briefly thought that I had Pomegranate confused for SaintKerrigan. I quickly changed it back when I realized that I had it right the first time.
  
• There is no denying that SpyreX was the main person driving the town, and I think the alliance he formed helped the town more than the scum despite having an American Mafioso and a jester in it. (If the Greek Mafia had made it to night 3, I predict they would have gone after the alliance like mad, especially with SpyreX threatening their dayvigging and LlamaFluff having them pegged.
  
• On night 4, Maemuki changed her kill target from RayFrost to Jahudo. I think the outcome would have been different if Maemuki kept to killing RayFrost.
