Rules and Information

Ruleset is a heavily modified version of Vi's normal ruleset.
Rules in this game are
very
important.

PLEASE NOTE THAT VOTES MUST HAVE ## BEFORE THEM.


Introduction:
All players selected to be either a town, a mafia, or a other. Vi, SpyreX and Zoraster subsequently made a full setup based on these selections. Things could be crazy. This could have bastard modded elements. Or it could be as plain-jane as possible. You’ll just have to find out.

Day:

1.
What is it? What do I do?
This is the period during which everyone who's alive can post in this topic. Generally speaking, you want to lynch someone whose Win Condition wants you dead (for instance, Townies want to lynch Mafiosi and vice versa).
2.
What is voting, and how do I do it?
Players may vote for a person they want to see lynched by posting
##Vote: PLAYERNAME
somewhere in their posts. I won't accept it if it's not in bold and if it doesn’t have ## before it. Unvoting is not necessary to place a vote. To unvote type,
##unvote

3.
Do we have to lynch?
You are allowed to vote to No Lynch (
##Vote: No Lynch
). This will take effect if no other majority can be formed from the players off the No Lynch wagon.
4.
Can the Mafia talk to each other during the Day?
Yes!
5.
Prod/Replacement Policy:
Players may ask for prods by typing
Prod: <name>
. The mod reserves the right to prod at his initiation. Prods should be acted on promptly or will risk replacement.
6.
Deadlines:
Deadlines will be set roughly two weeks from the start of each day, adjusted slightly to make it easiest on the mod and players. If the deadline arrives before anyone is lynched, there will be a no lynch.
7.
When does the Day end?
The Day ends with a lynch, a no lynch, or the deadline elapses. Generally, someone is lynched if they receive a majority (50%+1) of player’s votes.
8.
Where do I send my actions?
To Zoraster.

Twilight:

1.
What is it?
Twilight is simply the period between when the hammer vote (i.e. the vote that gives a player a majority) occurs and the moderator is able to lock the thread.
2. You may post, vote, or otherwise act as normal during twilight.
3. Realize that twilight may end at any moment. It is to your benefit to almost always have a target selected for any action that will occur in instantaneous night and merely to switch the selection when twilight falls. This will keep you from doing “no action.”
4. Twilight ends and your ability to send in actions ends the moment the thread locks.
5.
Where do I send my actions?
To Zoraster.


Night:

1.
This game uses an instantaneous night.
All night actions must have been given to the mod during the day or during twilight. It is to your benefit to submit night actions before twilight so that you don’t have your actions missed. You may change your actions before night occurs.
2. Once twilight is over, the thread will be locked, the night’s results will be posted, result PMs will be sent, the thread will be unlocked, and the next day will begin immediately.
3. The thread will be locked while the mod is organizing the night results.
4.
Where do I send my actions?
Nowhere. It’s too late. You missed the night.

Things you cannot do:

1.
Can I talk about this game elsewhere?
While this game is ongoing, you are NOT allowed to discuss it in other topics/games (as this will likely get you modkilled in that game
as well as
this one). PMing other players about the game will result in a modkill. This game is in
this topic
, and in any QuickTopics the mods explicitly give you. That's it.
2.
You use cool colors! Can I use them?
No. Impersonating the mod is both cheesy and fraudulent. Zoraster will use
red
. Do not use red in your posts or risk being modkilled.
3.
I know how to prove my Towniness! I'll post my Role PM!
No you won't. Quoting your Role PM or anything I tell you via PM will result in your modkill. The exception: Members of the Mafia may quote their PMs to each other without reprisal.
4.
Okay, but I can still prove my Towniness through other, clever ways...
No you won't. As a moderator I try to avoid betraying who the scum are through any means. If you try to break the game, etc. through invisible text, steganography/cryptography, etc., you will be modkilled.
4.
I have mod powers... so I can edit/delete this post... right?
No. What you post in this topic STAYS in this topic. If you multipost because the board is messing up, I will not delete the extra posts.
5.
I'm dead. Can I still post?
No, with one exception. A recently deceased player may make a "bah" post consisting of the letter 'N' followed by as many lowercase 'o's as you prefer. Nothing else is acceptable. A “dead quicktopic” for dead players may be given to you for you to talk to other dead players. You may not discuss this game while it is ongoing, even while dead.
6.
You talk a lot about modkills. What is a modkill?
Pretty self-explanatory on its face - I kill you immediately. I also change your role retroactively to Neutral Survivor - meaning you auto-lose. If a modkill occurs during the Day on a town member, I will immediately move the game to Night.

Important Mod Announcement


It is with a heavy heart I quote the following:
Rules wrote:1. Can I talk about this game elsewhere? While this game is ongoing, you are NOT allowed to discuss it in other topics/games (as this will likely get you modkilled in that game as well as this one). PMing other players about the game will result in a modkill. This game is in this topic, and in any QuickTopics the mods explicitly give you. That's it.
This is crystal clear. If you PM someone about the game, you get mod killed. This isn't a rule I made up, as it's pretty much in everyone's rules, and it can generally be understood. Furthermore, this game is made up of extremely experienced players who know better.

The violation in question is not a particularly egregious example of PMing about an ongoing game. It was essentially a comment on style in the game from one player to another one. But it is still a fundamental violation of the trust between players. The game cannot, in essence, exist if the illusion of a self-contained and mod controlled game are not kept. The fact I have recently run a game that in some ways flaunted this requirement in no way reduces the necessity of this rule.

It is not my desire to demonize this player. I suspect his heart was in the right place. It has been a difficult decision in whether to mod kill or to bend the rules and let him off with a warning. But given the rules are explicit, I have to mod kill. This is the first time since my very first game that I have had to do this. As consolation, I will not set him or her to "Neutral Survivor," he or she can still win with his or her team, though his mod death will not serve to help their cause.

Just a note of warning: I graduate on Friday and then go on vacation for the next week. The place I'm going is supposed to have wireless access, but you never know. Hi guys. I didn't send out any PMs for pre-ins for my mini-theme game (didn't want any repeats of this game!), but I'd like to invite everyone playing or watching, etc. to sign-up for Trader Mafia, which has now entered into sign-ups. The gist is that you can buy and sell abilities on your way to leading your team to victory.

So here are some off-the-cuff remarks:

1. I thought this game was enjoyable. It was certainly swingy, but when we have 11 town, 8 others, and 5 mafia, it's almost necessary for it to be so
2. I want to thank Vi and Spyre who spent HOURS helping me make this. Things got pretty darn heated in our QT (which for various reasons I won't reveal), but I think it came out with a creative, interesting and (relatively) balance setup. I think the setup showed heavy influence from all the mods involved, which made it fun I think.
3. The fact there were two backups made it REALLY hard for the others when Parama was killed because that meant there were now two people who could tell they were others.
4. I tried to provide plenty of incentive for the government not to claim so that Zorblag couldn't just mow you down, but that's not what happened. Oh well.
5. Mafia played a very good game. Gamma was especially impressive in the QT and designed it.
6. I really like running instant nightless. It's a lot more work for me as a mod, and I think it slightly increases the chances of a mistake on my part, but I think it pays off.
7. I think this is a totally workable theme game. I'd love to do it again in a while. It is REALLY tough on mods though, and I think the nature of it makes it both harder and easier for scum as they have to compete with meta on the one hand but the town can't reasonably conclude there are X scum in a game.

I thought UK did an excellent job. She had an uphill battle, but I don't feel so bad. I think anyone who picks "other" when given the choice has to know they're signing up for something really challenging.

we actually started from the outsiders, but I think the competition aspect added a lot to that concept.

One of the issues I had with the outsiders was that the number of points needed wasn't relative to the game itself. Games are dynamic things (and in a game like this, especially so), but by adding a competition element instead but keeping the power to earn points similar, it scaled itself.

By the way, had the executive just used its governor power, they would have won.

haha by the by, if anyone wants complicated, look at the spreadsheet on the first day. Trying to figure out who shot who and when and stuff with a redirector was pretty tricky.

In the case of the governor power, it was just that they needed to use the power, period, or lose 3 points

But yes, the modkill made things more difficult for them since their power revolved around lynches.

you're both right. at one point I was putting one of the abilities the gov had as anti-town (even though they were mostly pro-town). One of them was a janitored vig kill. If you hit town, you got points, if mafia then minus points. So sorta town, but since they have to use it (- points for not using an ability after all), they'd be forced to jan.

Anyway, in this brief period before better heads prevailed, I did the rules. But I left it in. In general, I'm a fan of semi-open type stuff... I like to give players a fair bit of information when possible, but I prefer to give TOO much. I try not to be a bastard mod, but I love a little mod-wifom.

But yeah, unknown is most likely a person who's been janitored.
