to sign up for a game, just type /in in the thread for that game. I recommend you start out in the Newbie Queue, so you can see how our site plays mafia. But yea, when the game fills, you will get a Private Message (or PM) that the game is starting, which will include your role.

You can join in as many games as you feel that you can take, but as a warning, our Day Phases normally last about 2 weeks, in case you're used to fast day phases.
