Also, anytime the site DOES "level up" in finding scum, scum also level up. It's always going to be an arms race, and I flat don't believe that the site is "dumb" right now. Are there quirky players? Absolutely. Are there BAD players? Definitely...and always have been. "Stimpy" ring a bell for anybody??

I do think we've had the perennial "all the quirky players have joined all the games they can over the summer" problem, but that's cyclical.

No it's not. You lynch them. You call them out. You make their life HELL while they don't change, and they either change or leave. We did this for YEARS on this site, with relatively few VIs. Then we got some critical mass of VIs at some point that
banded together
, and now they defend each other with meta, and it's like a VI Masonry that you can't effectively kill. That. Needs. To. Stop.

meta does not change the odds. Sometimes the VI is scum, and needs to be lynched. Sometimes the VI is town, and scum will never NK them. So you're left with a bunch of VIs and scum at endgame... what do you THINK is going to happen?

So I've started just trying to figure out how to read them, and if I decide they're town, they're just another bandwagon vote. If they're scum, they get lynched.
Admirable, but it requires special effort on the part of you, not the VI. That's not an adaptive strategy.

There's no list.
The VI stops being one to me the minute he/she actually cares about the game.
This. VIs can avoid being lynched. If they keep playing like a VI, they will (should) keep getting lynched. If they stop playing like a VI and start playing like somebody with three brain cells to rub together, they won't get lynched. It's really that simple, Richard.

I've yet to see a game with a VI where somebody DIDN'T offer them constructive advice, even if it's in the form of "if you don't start X/stop Y, I'm going to vote you, I swear". This site has an immense amount of patience, but this thread has shown several examples of it running thin.

I've never seen people refuse to explain what you did 'wrong' after the game (and really, most people will explain why they're lynching/copping you in-game). Of course, that's a little slower...
